Ques. How many students appear for BITSAT every year?

Ans. BITS does not publish the number of students who actually sit the exam. Registration figures in recent years have been in the range of 2–3 lakh. Total seats across all three campuses are around 4,020 per year, which makes the effective acceptance rate very narrow compared to the number of aspirants.

Ques. Why did BITSAT 2026 results come earlier than in previous years?

Ans. BITS Pilani revised the 2026 exam calendar, moving both sessions and the counselling process forward by roughly six weeks compared to 2025. The Session 2 result on June 5 in 2026 arrived about 40 days before the equivalent date in 2025 (July 16). This gives admitted students and BITS more time to complete the onboarding process before the academic year begins.

BITSAT Cutoff by Course and Campus

BITSAT 2025 cutoffs for different branches across different campuses are given in the table below:

  • CSE at BITS Pilani is consistently the most competitive branch and scores below 290 have very little chance even in easier years.
  • ECE at Pilani is the second toughest; you typically need 275+ marks.
  • Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering at BITS Goa saw relatively low cutoffs in 2025 (191 and 165 respectively), making them more accessible branches if you have a mid-range score.

BITSAT 2025 Cutoff

Ques. When will BITSAT 2026 cutoffs be released?

Ans. BITS releases the closing cutoff after each counselling iteration. Iteration 1 results come on June 20, 2026, and Iteration 2 on July 1, 2026. The final closing cutoff for 2026 will be known once all iterations are done. Use the 2025 data above as your planning reference until then.

Ques. Is there any score relaxation for SC/ST or OBC students in BITSAT?

Ans. No. BITS Pilani is a deemed-to-be university and does not follow the government’s reservation policy for its regular domestic seats. Every seat is allocated on BITSAT score alone, irrespective of caste, religion, or state. This applies equally to all three campuses.

BITSAT 2026 Tie-Breaking Criteria

When two or more students have the same moderated score, BITS Pilani uses a specific rule to decide who gets the higher merit rank. This matters most when you are right at a branch’s closing cutoff.

  1. More correct answers: The student who answered more questions correctly (across all sections) ranks higher regardless of how many wrong answers they have.
  2. Fewer wrong answers: If the number of correct answers is also equal, fewer incorrect answers break the tie.
  3. Section-wise performance: If both students still tie, BITS compares section scores in this order: Mathematics / Biology first, then Physics, then Chemistry, and finally English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning.

What After BITSAT 2026 Result

With both session results out, the counselling process, also called "iterations" at BITS, is the next and final step to securing your seat. Here is the complete post-result roadmap for 2026.

Step What Happens When
Fill Programme Preferences Log in and rank your preferred campus-programme combinations before Iteration 1 Before June 20, 2026
Iteration 1 Seat Allotment BITS announces first-round allotments based on score and preferences June 20, 2026
Fee Payment – Iteration 1 Pay admission fee within the deadline to hold your allotted seat As per allotment letter
Iteration 2 Seat Allotment Upgrades processed; remaining seats filled from the merit list July 1, 2026
Document Verification Submit Class 12 marksheet, certificates, and ID proof at the allotted campus At the campus, date to be notified
Academic Year 2026–27 Begins Classes commence at all three campuses August 2026 (expected)
  • Log in to the admissions portal, fill in your campus-programme preferences in order of priority, and submit before the Iteration 1 deadline.
  • If you get a seat in Iteration 1 but a higher preference opens up in Iteration 2 (because someone else declines their Iteration 1 seat), BITS upgrades your allotment automatically.
  • If you do not secure a seat in either iteration, watch the official portal for any wait-list or subsequent rounds. BITS may open additional allotments depending on how many students decline their seats after Iteration 2.

BITSAT Result 2026 FAQs

Ques. What is a moderated score and how is it different from my raw BITSAT score?

Ans. BITSAT is held across multiple slots on different days. To ensure that minor differences in paper difficulty across slots do not unfairly advantage or disadvantage anyone, BITS applies a normalisation formula. The result is your moderated score and this is the score that appears on your official scorecard and goes into the merit list. The raw score shown on screen right after you submit the test is not the same as the moderated score. Always go by the moderated score on your scorecard for admission planning.

Ques. I appeared in both Session 1 and Session 2. Which score does BITS consider?

Ans. BITS automatically considers the higher of your two moderated scores for the merit list. You do not need to make any request or selection. Your scorecard will reflect both session scores, and the better one is the one used for seat allotment.

Ques. What documents do I need for BITSAT 2026 counselling?

Ans. You typically need your Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets (or board result), birth certificate, BITSAT 2026 scorecard, a valid government-issued photo ID, and recent passport-size photographs. Check the official admissions portal for the complete and updated document checklist before your iteration date — BITS may specify additional requirements for particular programmes.

Ques. What is the minimum score needed to get admission through BITSAT 2026?

Ans. BITS does not set a fixed minimum qualifying score. Your admission depends entirely on your rank in the merit list relative to available seats. Based on 2025 closing cutoffs, a score above 200 at BITS Hyderabad opens up some programmes; 270+ is needed for CSE at Hyderabad; and 304+ was needed for CSE at Pilani. The 2026 cutoffs will be available after counselling closes in July 2026.

Ques. Does BITS Pilani have an NRI or foreign-national quota in BITSAT?

Ans. Yes. BITS Pilani has a separate NRI/PIO/foreign-national category with a limited number of seats. This category follows a different fee structure and admission process from the regular merit-based seats. NRI and PIO candidates should check the official admissions portal for their specific eligibility criteria, seat count, and application procedure.

Ques. Can I challenge or dispute my BITSAT 2026 score?

Ans. BITS Pilani does not run a public answer-key challenge process like NTA does for JEE or NEET. If you believe there is a factual error on your scorecard — such as a wrong name, date of birth, or an obviously incorrect score — contact the BITS Pilani admissions office directly through the official query mechanism on the portal. Score-related concerns are handled at the institutional level and are not part of a public objection window.

Ques. Can other universities use my BITSAT 2026 score for admission?

Ans. Some private universities accept BITSAT scores for their own admission process — though each sets its own cutoff and eligibility conditions. BITSAT is primarily designed for BITS Pilani’s three campuses. If you are considering such universities, check directly with their respective admissions offices for their policy on BITSAT score acceptance for 2026.

Ques. What happens if I do not get a seat in BITSAT 2026 counselling?

Ans. If no seat is allotted after both iterations, watch the official portal for any wait-list or additional rounds — BITS sometimes opens further allotments if admitted students decline their seats. You can also consider reappearing for BITSAT next year (there is no age bar beyond standard eligibility) or explore other entrance exams and institutions. BITSAT scores are valid only for the current admission cycle and cannot be carried forward.
