BITSAT 2026 Session 2 exam ha sstarted and is being held from May 24 to 26, 2026, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across exam centres in India. BITS Pilani conducts BITSAT for admission to B.E., B.Pharm, and M.Sc. programs at its Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses. More than 3 lakh candidates appear every year for around 7,500 seats, making a high BITSAT score essential to secure your preferred branch through BITSAT 2026 counseling.

  • The BITSAT will be conducted consecutively from May 24 to 26 in two shifts.
  • The morning shift will start from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the Afternoon Shift from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • You must carry other documents like passport-size photograph, a valid ID proof, Pen for signing attendance sheet along with BITSAT Hall Ticket 2026
  • In the BITSAT 2026 exam, you will get 3 marks for every correct answer, and -1 will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • So, you must remember that BITSAT 2026 has negative marking before answering the questions.
  • BITSAT 2026 Session 1 exam concluded. Paper was moderate in difficulty, slightly easier than JEE Main but required higher speed.

A score between 250 and 280 is required to secure admission to decent branches, while core programs on the main Pilani campus generally require higher scores. BITSAT 2026 is conducted in two sessions. You can appear in one or both sessions, and your best score will be considered for BITSAT 2026 counseling and admission.

What is BITSAT 2026?

BITSAT 2026 is a national-level university entrance exam conducted by BITS Pilani for admission to its integrated undergraduate programs. The full form of BITSAT is the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test. It gives you admission to B.E., B.Pharm, and M.Sc (Hons.) programs across the three BITS campuses — Pilani (Rajasthan), Goa, and Hyderabad.

BITS Pilani is consistently ranked among India's top private engineering universities. If you are the Rank 1 holder in your respective State Board, CBSE, or ICSE examination, you are eligible for direct admission to BITS campuses without a BITSAT score. You must have at least 75% aggregate in PCM and 60% in each subject. The application for this is separate from the BITSAT application. Admission is strictly based on BITSAT cutoff scores — there are no category-based reservations. All seats are filled on pure merit.

  • BITS Pilani offers programmes in engineering, sciences, and pharmacy
  • M.Sc students can switch to a dual degree in engineering after year one, based on performance
  • State and central board toppers (Rank 1 holders) get direct admission without appearing for BITSAT
  • Admissions to all campuses are done through a single centralized counselling processBITSAT exam Overview

BITSAT 2026 Cutoff

The BITSAT 2026 cutoff will be released after the counselling (iteration) rounds. Unlike most entrance exams, BITS Pilani does not have a fixed qualifying score for admission. The cutoff is the minimum BITSAT score needed to secure a seat in a specific branch at a specific campus. It varies each year based on exam difficulty, number of candidates, and branch demand.

Important: BITS Pilani has no category-based reservation. All seats are filled strictly on merit through BITSAT scores. The cutoff applies equally to all candidates.

BITSAT 2025 Previous Year Cutoff (Campus-Wise)

Campus Programme Expected Cutoff (Score out of 390)
BITS Pilani B.E. Computer Science 340–360

BITSAT 2026 Marks vs Branch

BITSAT 2026 marks vs branch data helps you understand which branch and campus you can get based on your score. Since there is no rank list published by BITS Pilani, the marks-to-branch mapping is based on previous year cutoff trends and candidate data. Your score, combined with your preferred branch and campus choices in the preference form, determines your seat allotment.

BITSAT Score Range Likely Branches and Campuses
350 and above CSE at BITS Pilani (most competitive)
320–350 CSE at BITS Goa or Hyderabad; EEE at Pilani
290–320 EEE at BITS Goa; Civil/Mech/Chemical at BITS Pilani; CSE at Hyderabad
260–290 Most B.E. branches at BITS Hyderabad; B.Pharm at Pilani
230–260 B.Pharm at BITS Goa and Hyderabad; M.Sc programmes
Below 230 Admission highly unlikely without Board Topper quota

You should fill your preference form carefully. Once you complete the BITSAT exam, you will be asked to fill in your programme and campus preferences in priority order. BITS Pilani allots seats based on your score and the order of preferences you submit. You cannot change this after submission, so think through your choices well.

Preparation Tips for BITSAT 2026

BITSAT preparation needs a different strategy from JEE Main. While JEE Main tests depth of knowledge, BITSAT tests both accuracy and speed. You need to solve 130 questions in 180 minutes, which means roughly one question per minute. Here are the most important tips to score well in BITSAT 2026.

  • Master NCERT first: BITSAT syllabus is NCERT-based for Class 11 and 12. A thorough NCERT reading for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will cover most questions
  • Target the English and Logical Reasoning section: This section is exclusive to BITSAT. Most JEE aspirants ignore it. A good score here can make a significant difference in your total
  • Build speed through timed mock tests: Attempt full-length BITSAT mock tests under exam conditions at least once every two days during the last month
  • Aim for bonus questions: If you can finish all 130 questions in under 3 hours, you get 12 extra questions. This bonus round can significantly boost your total score — prepare for speed accordingly
  • Focus on high-weightage Mathematics topics: Mathematics has 40 questions, the highest in any section. Calculus, Algebra, and Coordinate Geometry are heavily tested
  • Revise with formula sheets: Create concise formula sheets for Physics and Mathematics. These are useful for last-minute revision in the final week
  • Do not attempt guesswork: Negative marking of -1 for wrong answers means random guessing can hurt your score badly. Attempt only what you know
  • Use previous year question papers: Solving BITSAT previous year papers from the last 5 years gives you a clear idea of question types and difficulty

Ques. Which is better, BITSAT or IIT?

Ans. Generally, attending a good IIT is “better” than attending BITS, especially for students who aim for research, academic prestige, or the top tier of opportunities.

If you get into IIT Bombay/IIT Delhi/IIT Madras, it is usually a strong choice over BITS (unless the BITS Pilani is exceptional and you have constraints).

But if you get a newer or less reputed IIT, then BITS is a strong campus (Pilani / Goa / Hyderabad), you can prefer BITS in some cases, it gives you more flexibility, or better packages.

So, "IIT is better in a more general and long-term sense, for most high-achieving students," yet BITS remains an awesome option and might be "better for you" based on your priorities (cost, flexibility, campus life, branch, etc.).

Ques. Which BITS campus is best?

Ans. The “best” depends on what you prioritise.

  • BITS Pilani: The best of the BITS campuses with the highest academic reputation, highest BITSAT cutoffs (particularly for CSE and core branches), robust research infrastructure, stable faculties, and the most competitive peer group. Provides maximum academic intensity and long-term returns in placements and postgraduate opportunities.
  • BITS Goa: Strong academically with efficient faculty and decent research exposure, comparatively lower cutoffs compared to Pilani. The strengths are a moderate balance of academics and co-curriculars, promoting overall development, although its peer group competition is slightly lower.
  • BITS Hyderabad: Fast-growing campus with state-of-the-art labs, good infrastructure, and increasing research activity. Slightly lower cutoffs than Goa and Pilani, but the urban location gives greater industry internship exposure. Academic rigour is increasing and becoming on par with Pilani in the long run.

Ques. Is BITS a tier 1 college?

Ans. Yes, BITS colleges are considered Tier 1 institutions in India, especially in the field of engineering and technology.

With its high NIRF 2025 ranking- 11th in engineering, it has a strong research output, excellent placements, global collaborations, and a robust alumni network, making it one of the top institutes to pursue engineering and technology.

Ques. Is BITS private or Government?

Ans. BITS is a private deemed university, established in 1964 by the Birla family under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956

Ques. Is the BITSAT syllabus the same as JEE Mains?

Ans. No, BITSAT syllabus and the JEE Main syllabus are different, as the BITSAT syllabus overlaps the JEE Main Syllabus. If you have studied for JEE covers most of BITSAT’s science/math syllabus, but you need extra practice for English & Logical Reasoning to score well in BITSAT.

Similarities:

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics topics are primarily based on the NCERT 11th & 12th syllabus, just like JEE Main.
  • Basic concepts in mechanics, electricity, magnetism, organic & inorganic chemistry, algebra, calculus, etc., are included in both.

Differences:

  • English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning are present only in BITSAT, not JEE Main.
  • BITSAT can have some application-based problems or questions based on higher-order reasoning in physics/chemistry, which JEE doesn't emphasize as much.
  • BITSAT is a bit easier in terms of concepts but quicker-paced, whereas JEE Main contains more problem-solving and numerically intensive questions.

Ques. What topics should I focus on for BITSAT preparation?

Ans. While BITSAT preparation you need to prioritise Mathematics/Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, as they carry the most marks and practice English & Logical Reasoning regularly, as they are scoring and time-efficient.

Section Important Topics Approx. No. of Questions
Physics Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Optics & Waves, Thermodynamics & Heat, Modern Physics 30
Chemistry Physical Chemistry: Thermodynamics, Kinetics, EquilibriumInorganic Chemistry: Periodic Table, Bonding, Coordination CompoundsOrganic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons, Functional Groups, Biomolecules 30
Mathematics Algebra (Quadratic, Sequences, Complex Numbers)Calculus (Differentiation, Integration, Applications)Coordinate Geometry (Lines, Circles, Conics)Trigonometry & Vectors 40
Biology (if chosen instead of Maths) Genetics, Ecology, Cell Biology, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology 40
English Proficiency Vocabulary (Synonyms/Antonyms), Grammar (Tenses, Sentence Correction), Reading Comprehension 10
Logical Reasoning Analytical Reasoning (Arrangements, Series), Puzzles, Coding-Decoding, Data Interpretation, Syllogisms 20

Ques. Is there a specific BITSAT syllabus for B.Pharm aspirants?

Ans. Yes there is a specific syllabus of B.Pharma, but it is majorly similar to the B.Tech/B.E syllabus, with only 1 key difference, i.e Mathematics is replaced by Biology.

Rest Physics, Chemistry, English, and Logical Reasoning remain the same, with a total questions remain 130 questions (Physics (30), Chemistry (30), Biology (40), English (10), Logical Reasoning (20)).

Ques. How important is English and Logical Reasoning in BITSAT?

Ans. In BITSAT 2026, English will have 10 questions worth 30 marks, and Logical Reasoning will have 20 questions worth 60 marks, making a combined weightage of 90 marks, which is around 23% of the total marks.

So, these sections are important because they are scoring and less time-consuming, and they can improve your percentile.

BITSAT Preparation 2026

To prepare well for BITSAT exam, you should have a thorough understanding of the syllabus, which includes the 6 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English, and Logical Reasoning.

You should divide the BITSAT preparation plan into 3 phases, which will help in the easy coverage of the syllabus, as well as provide enough time to prepare:

  • Phase 1 (Months 1–4): builds NCERT-based concepts, notes, and light English/Reasoning practice, which data shows is key for crossing 300+ marks.
  • Phase 2 (till 2 months before exam): Focus on speed and accuracy with timed tests, error logs, and weekly mocks. Candidates who do this effectively often reach the 350+ range, matching cutoffs for top branches.
  • Phase 3 (last 2–3 months): Focuses on frequent full mocks, daily formula revision, and simulated sessions; data shows aspirants who practice this way and attempt 120+ questions usually cross 370+ (top 1–2%), boosting chances for CSE at Pilani/Goa.
Phase Timeframe (approx) Tasks / Actions
Phase 1: Foundation & Conceptual Strength ~Months 1 to 4 (or first 5–6 months)
  • Study NCERT / core textbooks thoroughly
  • Make notes & formula sheets for each topic
  • Practice conceptual + medium problems
  • Start light English & Reasoning (vocab, reading, puzzles)
  • Take weekly topic tests (untimed and timed)
Phase 2: Practice, Speed & Accuracy Drilling After initial coverage for ~2 months before the exam
  • Timed subject tests — 20–30 Q in 30 min; mix in cross-subject problem sets.
  • Focus on weak topics using an error log.
  • Weekly full-length mocks under exam conditions.
  • After each mock: analyze topic-wise errors, time/Q, and skipped/guessed questions.
  • Regularly practice elimination & approximation tricks.
Phase 3: Simulation & Final Polish Last 2–3 months (especially the last 1 month)
  • Full mocks every 2–3 days + timed sectionals
  • Daily revision of formulas & summaries
  • Practice bonus questions after mocks
  • Simulate both session timings & refine time management
  • Final revision of tricky/high-weight topics
  • Use buffer time to revisit flagged questions

BITSAT 2025 Paper Analysis Check here

Is BITSAT easier than JEE?

BITSAT is comparatively easier than JEE Mains in terms of the difficulty level of questions asked and the competition level. Although the JEE Main and BITSAT syllabi are almost identical, JEE requires deeper conceptual understanding and application of formulas. The level of questions asked in physics, chemistry, and mathematics in BITSAT is slightly easier and more direct than the JEE question paper.

Talking about the level of competition, the number of students taking BITSAT is only 20% of those taking JEE Main. While only around 3 lakh apply for BITSAT every year, around 15 lakh apply for JEE Mains. This makes the competition to get a seat through JEE Main even tougher.

Is BITSAT easier than NEET?

Overall, both BITSAT and NEET are of moderate difficulty with slight variations in the topic-wise weightage distribution. Physics and Chemistry questions are more or less similar to the JEE and NEET levels. For the biology section (students opting for B.Pharm), NEET can be a good reference. You can solve NEET papers and get an idea of the difficulty level of questions.
