Life as a Sikkim University student in the main campus, Yangang

Likes

The course is good. The professors are helpful and take quite engaging lectures.
You will get a space to learn and grow as our department teachers give us that independent space.
The course worl contains Hydrodiplomacy which is a new thing that you will learn.

Dislikes

The hostels are good but there are food, water and electricity problems.
The mess food of the new campus girls hostel especially is unhygenic and not good.
The electricity and the network issues are the main thing we struggle here in Yangang campus.

Admission:

I chose this college as this is close to my hometown as compared to the other colleges I applied. Apart from this university, I applied to Central University of Punjab, Central University of Gujarat, Central University of Kerala, Pondicherry University and JNU. I got chance in Punjab, Kerala and Sikkim so I chose Sikkim University. Yes, I didn't get chance in the other universities as the cut off was very high.

My Undergrad Experience at Sikkim University.

Likes

The cultural events, the city, the people and the natural environment all around. Life in hills feels like a breath of fresh air, you'll love it for a change.
My department of psychology was like a cozy small family with supportive and friendly professors. The curriculum is just fine. The evaluation pattern makes life really easy since you get 50 marks from your internals and only 50 from your final paper
The people that you meet here will teach you a lot about different ethnicities, culture and tradition. The place in itself is completely different from the rest of the country. Lifestyle in gangtok is pretty modern, classy and open minded

Dislikes

The city gets stuck in traffic quite often and it can really get on your nerves. I have had days where it used to take me 2hrs to cover a distance of 5km from my hostel to department via cab
The campus is still under construction and majority of the departments are stretched over the entire city of gangtok with rented buildings. This setting never felt feasible but isnt the worst part either.
One problem that many of my friends from other states felt here was the language barrier. People here communicate in either nepali or english, be it the marketplace or university.

Admission:

I chose this college because it was feasible and close to my state (Assam). It was the only central university close to my state which provided psychology honors. The admission was purely merit based as it was during covid. But now they take in students on the basis of CUET scores. The cut off through CUET is comparitively pretty less

Makes us ready for the upcomming challenges in life
Variety of life lessons to make us more strong for the future
We make a lot of friends some of which are till the very end

Dislikes

They should teach us more about our moral values and our civil rights
They should also give us basic financal education which would teach us more abut finances in our day to day life
May be more emphasising on practical life rather than the theoretical part

Admission:

I had applied to only one collage because it was rhe neareasr and i could not afford to go somewhere else far. I did not get rejected .I had to have some cut off percentage for admission and everythung went smoothly

Teachers used to take monry to us when we need a simple signature even thou !!

i didn't join other college, directly i got admitted in this college. i got confirmed admission in this college by advance booking of 50000 to book my seat. I choose this college from other college because it was near from my home and I have my uncle working in this college, by the help of him I got the support and saved from ragging from seniors. i didn't applied to any other college after my class 12th. direct admission by advance payment . eligibility is 10+2 with science with minimum 60% marks in PCM/PCB. No exam or entrance for admission.

Hostel were very good specifically rangeet boys hostel
Teacher la are very good smooth paper work of any kind in there university office
Staffs are very good very helpful and the people of Sikkim are very friendly and welcoming for the students

Dislikes

Main thing is that there is no campus but they are making it sure it will be good if they complete the construction
There no internship program at my department
Various departments are very far from each other

Admission:

I had applied at jnu but did not got selected and few others but this university was closer to my home and Sikkim is a great place to study because of the people very good. I feel safe and secure had lots of fun. Ya I got rejected from jnu, maybe I was less prepared that is only reason afterall it is one of the best university Process was simple when I applied there I had to give entrance exam. Science subjects I think most people choose but I came to know that there was also a chinese studies department, my room partner was from chinese department.

The faculty is one of the plus point as it is a central university
The university is tied with manipal central referral hospital so everything is free there
Diversity can be experienced as there are people from all parts of the country

Dislikes

The campus is underconstruction so it will take a time.
Due to the ongoing construction many of the departments are still in rented building
The permanent campus location is very remote and the market is also in a rural setting

Admission:

My main motive behind joining the institution was it the nearest central university from my honetown ,also the department i choosed i had heard about it's faculty. As it is a central university admission is done via CUET Pg .you have to score a decent marks there to get admission in this university
