Course Curriculum Overview

4

My course is a very different and unheard course of our country. Philosophy is not so prevalent in India as of now . On the contrary it is as popular in West as medical in India. So it is quite difficult when it comes to an understanding of the subject through indian lens. The curriculum includes western philosophy, Logic, Fundamentals of Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, etc., which covers almost all disciplines like political science, law, history, sociology, reasoning, etc. The books we are provided as study material are original writings of philosophers and Oxford translations, which makes it even harder to cop up with. The exam level is also quite difficult because you can never study a week before and get 9 Cgpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

I pay 15000 fees every semester in Miranda House, which is 30,000 every year. Talking about the whole course itself the admission fee, etc., are already included in the written amount. Almost all of my batchmates have 15000-20000 per semester. There are quite a lot of scholarships available in my college. The most recent one is The Sharda and the Som Raj Bhagat Singh Scholarship including 5 scholarships for 3 years for needy students. The Veena Nayyar Memorial Scholarship also avails 20 scholarships for 3 years for first year students. Many other scholarships and help are provided to the students bu the college.

Campus Life

4

Talking about the infrastructure, Miranda House has the best campus I have seen and felt throughout north campus. I have been to hindu, srcc, stephens, etc., but Miranda has one of the best preserved campus and beauty. It gives you a lot of cultural and economical clubs to invest into and they are definitely worth the hype. Even though the working requirements in some of them are toxic, it makes you learn some lessons you could never learn anybody else.

Admission

Honestly, I got Lady Shree Ram college at first with an English hons degree in hand. But I had Miranda listed 5 times in top 10 colleges I wanted to go to. So, I guess I got what I wanted. But, my dream college was Srcc with an economics degree. I am currently pursuing economics as a minor subject for now though. I believe that Miranda is a great college but it can never offer me what Srcc could. The admission process of my college is through the entrance exam called CUET. You have to get alteast above 720 from 800 if you want Miranda. Top courses require the least score of 760 in second cut off. It ois quite competitive.

Faculty

3

I will say that my department has got one of the most learned professors with highest levels of education and teaching experience where they know how to actually teach. The appointed guest professors are one of the finest teachers when it comes to learning to grow not just to get a job. Whereas the course structure is quite rogid and almost all of our readings are from either from oxford or original philosophical works from ancient era which is quite hard for us. The Internal marking scheme is quite bad because it never ends and comes with a lot of physical baggage during exam season.

Night Life

5

The nightlife around my college is quite lively. The most famous open market called Kamlanagar Market and Bunglow Road is here which offers you everything from frood to clothes to people who'll accompany you while eating the best dosa at midnight. The hostels in Miranda are quite spacious but lacks Air conditioning. I love my campus but I would not prefer to life in hostel without ACs in boiling summers of june. The main highlight is the library which has two floors with all the facilities like computers , Acs, water, etc.,

Course Curriculum Overview:

Specific aspects of curriculum that influence my decision the course was quite helpful for anyone who wants to pursue upsc. The curriculum has well round concepts of economics, policy making also contemporary debates which are applicable in real world. Teaching methods can be more practical based, classroom discussion, debates areas of improvement should be incorporated multiple disciplinary approach elements of economics, international relations in dept. The frequency and timings of exams are not that difficult in my perspective gaps are provided before the commencement of exams also between the exams for each subjects.
