Remarks

Loyola-ICAM engineering college is located at the heart of the city which is very good thing for the students as most of the engineering colleges in Chennai are located at the outskirts of the city. This saves the students from all the travelling time and makes them comparatively less tired and more productive when compared to students who have to travel around two hours to reach college everyday. The infrastructure is very well built and it is one the best place to get your degree.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The college follows the curriculum set by Anna University as it is affiliated to it. There would be thouree internal assessment carried out by college on the basis of which the internal marks would be calculated for an individual at the end of semester. The assessments would be covering the portions which would help the individual to face the finals with confidence. Loyola has made me an engineer with responsibility.

Placement Experience

3

Placements are quite good. Most of the placements are off campus and pooled campus. They try to bring a number of companies and to get their students placed. They work very hard to get at least one offer to each of their student. The student who uses the maximum out of whatever option they are providing with regard to placement will be definitely placed well with a reputed organization.

College Events

4

Every year a technical symposium is conducted by every department on a seperate day. Neighbouring and fellow engineering colleges are invited to participate in the events. It would be mostly consisting of technical components like paper presentation and hackathon of such. Several non technical events are also added along with it like treasure hunt to add more fun to it. A yearly cultural event called the Engenia is conducted by the college which will be held for two days, offstage events on day one and onstage events on day two. People from media and cinema would be invited as chief guests and judges.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees structure is moderate and a fair one compared to its competitors/fellow engineering colleges. They charge 70k per academic year. The one time payment of around 50k would be collected at the start of the college which would be termed as miscellaneous fees. Apart from this exam fees, no dues, farewell and other fees are collected as and when collectible.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have opted for the minority scholarship which would award me 25k per year. The process was made very easy as there is a seperate counter at the college office room for scholarships. The person there would help students with the formalities and steps that needs to be carried out in order to avail the scholarship provided. I have also took student load from the bank to pay for my college expenses. The bank explained the process and hand out the necessary forms which needed to be filled. The fees structure needs to be provided along with the Bonafide from college.

Campus Life

5

The campus life is a just plain normal one which can been seen in every other colleges. The gender ration depends on the course, for e.g the mechanical engineering batch would happen to have mostly boys enrolled and hardly four to five girls wheres the electrical department had forty girls and fifteen boys as its strength. There was sports like kabadi, basketball, cricket, lawn tennis, badminton and indoor games like chess, table tennis, etc. There were other technical events and debates and guest lectures happening whenever possible.

Alumni/Alumna

The college has been functional for just 10 years now. So the alumni network does not have that bandwidth which could be seen in some big colleges. But the seniors would be helpful in providing their insights about certain aspects if it is found difficult for a fellow junior to cope up with.

Admission

To join in Loyola-ICAM one should buy the admission form the college which they start to hand out from the month of January which costs around 1k. The applicant gotta fill the form, submit it. Post exam results based on merit cum basis and cut-off the college schedules an interview for the shortlisted students which would be informed to them beforehand thourough messages and other form of communication. There would be generally two round of interview, one with the principal post which there would be one with the Dean of Studies/Director. Once you clear these rounds you could select one among the five courses which they offer.

Faculty

3.5

The facilities are very well read and know their stuff. Some professors could not be up to the mark and may not be the best but speaking in a general context the faculties are all right. They help us with the academics and also try to help us at other aspects of life too.

Placement Experience:

Placement is excellent. From the third year itself, you will be getting ready for your placements by preparing the resume and placement coordinators will practice you by a model interview, this will give you an idea of presenting yourself and also they will provide the feedback on your performance to improve your skills. In my IT department, Half of them got placed, some entrepreneurs, some pursuing higher studies in abroad (US, France, Australia, London). Generally, 7.5 CGPA and above with nil number of arrears allowed for all placements. but some companies will mention the eligibility criteria for the job role. Maximum companies will not allow more than 2 arrears but if the company says arrears, not an issue you will be allowed for the drive. 3 rounds: 1. Aptitude- to check the mathematical skills 2. Group Discussion- To check the communication skills 3. Technical round/personal interview- To check your technical skills like coding(dept wise) and your personality. The resume speaks the most.
