Notable Climbers Beyond the IITs

Where Indian Universities Are Performing Strongly?

Indian institutions have shown clear gains in research impact and employability. Eleven Indian universities have entered the world's top 100 for citations per faculty. Bharathiar University ranks 75th globally on this indicator on its debut entry.

On the employability front, the University of Mumbai stands at the 25th position globally. The University of Delhi follows at the 35th rank. Six Indian institutions also feature in the global top 100 for employer reputation.

Areas Where India Still Lags

Internationalisation remains the biggest weak spot for Indian universities. Around 90 percent of ranked Indian institutions have shown no improvement in international student numbers. Only one Indian university features in the world's top 500 for international faculty representation.

Academic reputation has also seen limited progress. Only 8 percent of Indian institutions have improved on this indicator. Around 28 percent have declined on the same measure.
