Ans. I have a cousin who is currently working as a senior software engineer at Walmart. He is anex-student of IGDTUW. This alone negates all the claims of people stating IGDTUW is a below-average institute with poor infrastructure and zero placement opportunities. In fact, the first job he landed with campus placements was at Adobe. His juniors got placed in better companies like Google, Facebook, etc which speaks of the improving placement scenario. Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of these institutes  Particulars IGDTUW BTech CSE NIT Calicut BTech CSE Batch Strength 156 148 Students Placed 98 148 Highest CTC INR 55 LPA 67.62 LPA Average CTC - 20.54 LPA Its true that NIT Calicut may have an upper hand in terms of infrastructure, but in the long run, that does not really matter. A college can give you the wings to fly and it's on you how high you rise. Moreover, being a girl, you will have better opportunities in a girl's college like IGDTUW. Yes, you will have to make small sacrifices like moving away from your home and adjusting to minimal facilities but in the end, it will be worth it! Read more

Ques. Which should my daughter choose, a CSE from IGDTUW or a ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT Delhi?

Ans. The choice between CSE from IGDTUW and ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT depends on the goals of your daughter. If she is planning to pursue higher studies like MS or a Ph.D., then IIIT Delhi is a decent choice as it’s a research-oriented college. But if she is looking for a job, then IIIT Delhi will offer limited opportunities. This is because getting a job in Core ECE companies like Western Digital and Qualcomm is not easy, as these companies prioritize master students. A few talented students do get placed in Software firms.  In IIIT Delhi first year is the same for both CSE and ECE during which the students are taught Introduction to Programming, System Management, Computer Organisation, Data Structure, and Digital Circuits. Your chances of placement also depend on your CGPA which should be preferably above 7. IIIT Delhi offers the flexibility to choose the CSE courses, provided that you complete the minimum credits requirement in the last two years of B.Tech for the degree. In all, I feel, that NSIT and DTU will offer great job opportunities because of their brand name but IIIT Delhi will teach you new things and also offer research opportunities So it’s best to go for NSIT or DTU or IIIT Delhi. Ans. Both IGDTUW Delhi and PEC Chandigarh are reputed colleges and are equally good but both these courses are very different from each other.  If you are interested in higher studies and want to do M.Tech or Ph.D., then only opt for PEC civil. The pressure for studies would be less. You also have no restrictions in doing extracurricular activities. Here you can focus on other things besides studies, like on your hobbies or learning and developing a new skill or a new language which can be helpful in your career.  Here’s a brief overview of the courses mentioned in the question.  Parameters  PEC Chandigarh IGDTUW Delhi Average CTC 10.2 LPA 5.5 LPA Highest CTC 42 LPA 16 LPA Course Fee 3.45 lakhs  4.04 lakhs Hope this answer clears some of your doubts.Read more

Ans. HBTI IT will be better than IET Lucknow CSE. It offers better placements. All the companies that visit HBTI campus to recruit students from CSE, also allow students from IT branch to sit for placements.  Here are the recent highlights of HBTI placements. Ques. What should I prefer: Mechanical Engineering at HBTI, Kanpur or CSE at IET, Lucknow?

Ans. Both of the institutions are situated at a distance of 80 km from each other. IET Lucknow is situated in the industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh and the HBTI Kanpur is situated in the Political capital. If you live in one of the two cities, you can choose accordingly; otherwise, this factor has no significance. According to AKTU, both the institutes are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in UP, but the situation is completely different analytically. HBTI is a well-known institution and has been the parent institute of IIT Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute.  Both the institutes are government-run with complete control over examinations and the curriculum of courses offered by them. If you enjoy programming, Computer Science would be the appropriate course for you, while Mechanical Engineering is for those who want to acquire a genuine sense of what engineering is all about. The faculty of IET Lucknow is better than that of HBTI.  You will have numerous opportunities outside the campus. The placement statistics for the mechanical department are not very good at both institutes, but placement in the CS department is extremely good. Ans. Having friends from IET and studying at BIET, I have enough knowledge about both the institutions. So, my suggestion will be HBTI. It will be a better choice than the others. But before selecting any college you must first learn about each college and its branches.  Categories HBTI Course Fee 5.17 lakh Placement Percentage 75-80% Highest CTC 60 LPA Average CTC 10 LPA Lowest CTC 7.18 LPA Recruiting Companies Aditya Birla Group, Samsung, Adani, BORL, Reliance Industries, Indigo Paints, Berger Paints, Tata Consultancy, IndiaMart Firstly while choosing an institution, know where your interest lies and then opt for the desired subject. Secondly, choose the college which gives you more exposure. Make the list of all the pros and cons of the institutions and make a final decision based on it. Research about every stream - Gain information about each stream the college is offering, and choose the one that strikes your interest. Also research about the future prospects of the subject, which will help you make an informed decision. Examine what you require from the college - Every student has a different need from the institution they study in. This could be prospects in higher education, competitive exams like CAT, GATE, UPSC or maybe the college’s industrial, cultural and technical exposure. Ans. Choosing a particular college or a department actually depends on you, and how you want to shape your career ahead. Having known some people who study in both these institutions, I can say that they all have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses.  I might not be able to help you select one among them, because they are both good in their own ways. So, I will share some information about them which might help you make the choice. ECE at IET Lucknow has one of the finest faculty. They also have a great student crowd. HBTU also has highly experienced faculty members. Placements at HBTU are also much better than IET Lucknow. The enrolled candidates of the GATE exam are really great. They also offer a vast alumni network unlike IET. Ques. Which is better among IIIT Lucknow for CSE, NIT Allahabad and HBTI Kanpur for chemical engineering?

Ans. Go for the one which is nearer. Although, IIIT Lucknow is a fair enough option to consider for chemical engineering. All the above-mentioned colleges are national-level recognized colleges. The reason why IIIT Lucknow is slightly preferred over the others is because of its campus which is ever-growing and developing.  The recruiters are always eyeing the campus and offering packages as high as 10 LPA, which makes it quite a welcome option for all the applicants and aspiring candidates. Moreover, the campus will help you to focus on extra-curricular and other curricular activities too apart from academics, thus paying a lot of attention to the overall growth of the personality holistically and not just scoring good grades.  The multiple competitions and championships happening are always intended to prepare the students holistically. You can go for HBTI Kanpur only when you have no other options of IITs or NITs. It is a state-level college and not as reputable as the others.Read more
