To calculate NEET rank, NTA converts your raw marks into a percentile by comparing your raw marks to those of other candidates and then assigns a ranking in descending order.
Your NEET percentile can be obtained by using the formula specified below
| Percentile = 100 × (Number of candidates with score ≤ yours / Total appeared candidates) |
- Your NEET rank is calculated using the percentile and not your NEET raw scores.
- A score above 680+ is considered excellent, which puts you among the top 1-73 ranking in NEET.

How NTA Calculates NEET Rank?
NTA first calculates each candidate’s raw score by applying the marking scheme.
| Total score = (Correct Answer x 4 ) - (Wrong Answer x 1) |
Next, NTA calculates the percentile for each subject and for the overall by using the formula
| Percentile = 100 × (Number of candidates with score ≤ yours / Total appeared candidates) |
- A percentile is relative performance, which tells you how well you performed better than all other candidates.
- Ranks are assigned in descending order of total percentile.
- Category ranks are also calculated within each category, such as EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and Open.
| Sl No | Rank calculation step-by-step process | Details | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Raw Score Calculation | Calculate the right or wrong | Total = (Correct x 4) - (wrong x 1) |
| 2 | Subject-wise percentile + total percentile | Your performance vs all candidates | Percentile = 100 × (Number of candidates with score ≤ yours / Total appeared candidates) |
| 3 | All India Rank Assignment | Descending order by total percentile/ score | AIR 1 = Highest score |
