IIT Gandhinagar from the eyes of a First Year

The Course Curriculum is relevant and the courses have been arranged in a way that there is not excessive load on the students. Many courses such as Design, Innovation and Prototyping prepare you for Real World Applications. Currently, I see no area for improvement in the Curriculum. The Frequency of exams is medium and timing is mid-sem around September End and end sem December end.

There are over 50 companies which have given Internships in our college which includes Barclays, Google, Oracle, Texas Instruments, etc. These Top Companies give Stipend of over 1 Lakh per month for Summer Internships. I am a First Year Student so I have not got an internship yet.

Placements this year have become better. 4th Years are sitting for Placements right now. Top companies include Infosys, Oracle, De Shaw, Nvidia, etc. All Data is available in the Placement Report which is available on the IIT Gandhinagar Website. Till May 4, 2024 69 % Students have been placed. I plan to go for a masters after my degree.

Year Wise Fees: 300000 Breakdown: Tuition Fees: 100000 Hostel Fees: 17250 Mess Fees: 32750 For Category Students, Academic Fees are waived. Hostel Fees are waived for SC/ST as well. Many Scholarships are available which can be checked on the IIT Gandhinagar website. Each Scholarship has different requirements.

Annual Technical Summit named Amalthea is held in November. Annual Cultural Festival named Blithchron is held in January. Over 5 Crores is spent by the library on books every year. Reference Books are easily available and plenty in number. All the Classrooms have latest technologies such as a Digital Whiteboard, Computer, Projector , etc. Every Sport you can think of is available here in IIT Gandhinagar in our Olympic Level Sports Complex. Many Student Run Clubs such as Abhinaya(Drama Club), Sargam(Singing), Step Up(Dance), etc are there. The Full list is present on IIT Gandhinagar's website.

First Year Students are living in Three Sharing Rooms. They Provide a Bed and a Cupboard per Student. All Rooms are Air Conditioned. They are regularly cleaned by Staff. The Hostel Rooms are quite affordable. Hostel is compulsory for all IIT Gandhinagar Students. Mess is great. Three different Mess's are available. Each mess provides hygienic and good quality food. I personally would recommend Jaiswal Mess.

I applied to Birla Institute of Technology and got BITS Goa Mathematics and Computing but I did not take it as Gandhinagar is closer to my Home and the campus of IIT Gandhinagar is much better than BITS Goa.

The Faculty to Student Ratio is 1:8. In some classes, the faculty to student relationship is very good but in some classes, there is no relationship. All Faculties are highly approachable for doubts, projects, advice, etc. You may meet them after a Lecture or take an appointment by Email. There are 2 Exams in one Semester: A mid-semester exam and an end-semester exam. There also may be quizzes or graded labs in a course. Very Few Students fail to clear the exams. The Course Curriculum was recently updated so it is quite relevant.
