SGTB Khalsa College, DU

The admission process back in 2016 was fairly simple. It was primarily online facilitated by the University of Delhi. A single form was required to be filed online for all the colleges and courses one wished to apply for at Delhi University. Various cut-off lists were released and admission was granted on the basis of merit. Khalsa College stands strong at the heart of the University at North Campus. It is closest to the Metro Station and Parking is also easily available. The societies at Khalsa are at a nascent stage, except the Dramatics society Ankur. The Professors are great and I still vividly remember my conversations with them. The college also has all the facilities around like a Photocopy shop, book shop, PGs, and even cafes to hang out with friends. The atmosphere provided by being in the heart of North Campus makes it a very good choice. The administrative staff can be a little tricky to deal with, but the overall experience considering Delhi University is good.

Economics (Hons) at the University of Delhi is one of the best Economics courses throughout the country. The curriculum is decided by the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, and is based on the best international authors. There is only one section for Economics which is great for networking, but the student-teacher ratio takes a hit there. Although, the same problem is effectively handled by having small tutorial groups for doubt solving and revision of lectures. The core faculty, as well as the ad hoc faculty, very experienced and knowledgeable. The professors always informed at least a month in advance of any internal exams that had to be scheduled and the syllabus for the same was covered 2 weeks in advance in the lectures. Academics wise, I highly respect and recommend the institution.

The placement cell is primarily focused on the Commerce Department. The students are eligible for campus placements only in the final year, but internship fairs for other students were organized. Companies like the Big4, Bain, DE Shaw visited. The highest package was by DE Shaw around 12-13L, then Bain around 9L.

Very few colleges(SRCC, CBS) at Delhi University have air-conditioning in classes and Khalsa is one of them. Hence, the fee is a little higher to most of the other colleges. The ground is one of the best in the entire University and is highly regarded throughout the University. A parking facility is also available.

Khalsa's annual fest happens in February every year. The college is closed by the evening so the fest and performances happen during the day only which can be a bummer. Sports and Library facilities are good. Clubs are at a nascent stage except for the Dramatics Club, Ankur, which is the best throughout Delhi University.
