Which one should I choose: MBA at IIT Kharagpur (operations) or IMT Ghaziabad (finance)?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 6th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

IIT Kharagpur for operations would be better than IMT Ghaziabad (finance). As IMT Ghaziabad is more famous for its marketing course than finance. IIT Kharagpur is known for its operations management program and has a strong reputation as an institution of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). A few key aspects of IIT Kharagpur are as follows:

  • In 2023 IIT Kharagpur secured 14th rank among all top management schools in India. This does reflect its academic excellence, infrastructural abilities, faculty strength, and placement records.
  •  The faculties are adequately skilled and helpful while imparting quality education.
  • The hostel's amenities include triple and double sharing, as well as all the essentials. The food is of high quality, and you will have four meals. The admissions procedure includes signing up for the hostel. Accommodation in a hostel is required for all students.
  • IIT Kharagpur placements 2023 have been concluded. IT Kgp highest package stood at INR 43.37 LPA whereas VGSOM IIT Kharagpur's average package stood at INR 22.13 LPA.

So based on these aspects IIT Kharagpur is a better option for pursuing an MBA in operation management.

Which one is better for pursuing an MBA, IIM Sambalpur or XIMB BM?

AM
Anshuman Mishra Posted On : January 24th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (2020)

The main purpose of pursuing an MBA is to elevate your current profile and render you better career opportunities. Doing an MBA just for your resume or because everyone is doing it is not justifiable. And honestly, neither of the two colleges you mentioned has the potential to enhance your employability skills. So I would right away say that both these are not good options.

The reason why IIM Sambalpur is not worth it is mainly because being a new IIM, its tag has little or no brand value. Its overall worth is also very less in comparison to other IIMs. Most importantly, if you were able to get into a new IIM, chances are you can even get into an older, better one with a tad bit more effort and determination. So you can try again next year and join a better one.

The reason why XIMB is not worth it is because of ROI. The high fees compared to mediocre packages that are offered make no sense. You can get similar packages at a tier 2 college with much fewer fees.

Still, if you are under pressure to choose one, definitely go for IIM Sambalpur. The IIM tag might come in handy someday in our country whose corporates still value the tag more than the potential.

How is JNTUH for an MBA?

KS
Kalyan Sinha Posted On : May 27th, 2022
MBA from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad

JNTUH Hyderabad isn’t a good option for an MBA. It doesn’t offer good placements and exposure to students. Go for this institute, if you only want an MBA degree. If you want good job profiles with cushy salary packages after graduation, you should look for other options.

JNTUH offers good academics. The institute has great faculties for Finance and Marketing.

Which is best for an MBA, IIT Madras or LIBA?

RK
Roshni Karnam Posted On : April 11th, 2022
BTech and MTech Engineering Design & Automotive Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2017)

DoMS IIT Madras is the best option for MBA. The management faculty of the institute are highly experienced. Faculty-student ratio is 1:7. Other than faculties there are also TAs to help you with any problems. Due to the small batch size, every student gets the required attention from faculties.

IIT Madras MBA placements have been pretty good over the years. During the 2022 placement drive, a total of 61 students received placement offers. The average CTC was INR 16.66 LPA. For the top 10% of students, the average CTC was INR 21.62 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 25.30 LPA. IBM, Zycus, Amazon, etc. were the major recruiters that visited the placement drive.

Why did you choose IMT Ghaziabad for an MBA? What were your other options, and are you happy with your choice?

MBA Finance, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2018)

One of my friends got accepted at NM (Mumbai), Manipal, and several such prestigious universities among others. Finally, he chose IMT Ghaziabad as it is a really good college.

  • It is among the top B-schools with an extremely cooperative and prestigious faculty.
  • Another reason was due to the location. As it was near to his place whereas that of Mumbai was farther.
  • The infrastructure is decent there and the learning environment developed around the campus is highly encouraging.
  • The seniors offer great assistance when it comes to assignments, provided you seek their help before.
  • From the academic aspect, the competition is high but if you study well, you will find your way to the top.
Categories MBA at IMT Ghaziabad
Course Fee 19.53 lakh
Placement Percentage (overall) 80-90%
Highest CTC 28 LPA
Average CTC 12 LPA
Recruiting Companies Cognizant, Berger, ICICI Bank, American Express, etc.

The coordinators make the campus life a handful. Would hope for you to find a better coordinator for yourself that would make your college life easy going. Overall, the college has the greatest facilities to offer to its students.

What kind of placements do lawyers get after an MBA from ISB Hyderabad?

MB
Manoj Bhagat Posted On : February 6th, 2023
ASE at Accenture India and Black Tiger , Associate at Accenture (2020-present)

My friend is both an LLB and a company secretary. She graduated from ISB Hyderabad a few years ago and was offered a plethora of opportunities in both legal and non-legal positions. She claims the placement scenario to be beneficial. She was interviewed by 4-5 recruiters and received offers from 2 of them. She had also applied to a boutique I-Bank in Singapore and was offered a decent position there. All these clearly state the versatile opportunities a lawyer can get after doing an MBA from ISB Hyderabad.

My friend finally opted for a management consulting firm on campus. Her work revolved around the legal and financial structuring of infrastructure projects. Soon after she left the job and became a CEO of a hospital. She finally settled with her own private Legal Practice and today she helps people and companies with their legal problems. The conclusion from her career journey is that a lawyer has many opportunities post-MBA. All he needs to do is make the best out of each.

Will I be offered a seat in MBA (I'm waitlisted at 113) even after accepting the MBA marketing program at TAPMI?

PGDM Post Graduate Diploma in Management, T. A. Pai Management Institute (2019)

Yes, TAPMI has a separate waitlist for all of its programs. So if you manage to convert the MBA program you will be offered a seat irrespective of whether you have accepted the marketing program or not. You would then have the choice to choose between the 2 programs.

How would you compare KJ Somaiya's PGDM with NIRMA's MBA in terms of placement and opportunities? Which one will be better?

BG
Banika Gaira Posted On : December 26th, 2022
PGDM in International Business (college major) & Marketing, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) (Graduated 2020)

Comparing the 2 B Schools that are KJ Somaiya and NIRMA, I would say both are equal in terms of placements, opportunities and exposure. The only factor you need to consider here is location. NIRMA is a good choice if your hometown is nearby. But if you want to enjoy your college life, explore and make memories, KJ Somaiya is the best. Located in Vidyavihar, a student-dominated area in Mumbai, it has an amazing campus with top-notch facilities.

Placements

The table below draws a clear comparison between both the B Schools.

Particulars

KJ Somaiya

NIRMA

No. of companies visited

Placement percentage

100%

Highest package

INR 26.50 LPA

INR 26 LPA

Average package

INR 10.98 LPA

INR 10.50 LPA

Top Recruiters

So from the table, we can infer that placement-wise both colleges are almost the same. The difference lies in their location and the type of college life they offer.

Is the ISB in Hyderabad any good for an MBA, or is any university in the USA better?

AK
Ankit Kankane Posted On : February 6th, 2023
MCA in Computer Science, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) (Graduated 2014)

ISB is not limited to Hyderabad only but has a second campus at Mohali too. Anyways comparing an Indian school with a US school is outright illogical and unjustified. ISB Hyderabad’s ranking speaks of its own worth as it stands in the 27th position in FT Rankings. The Financial Times rankings are one of the highly esteemed rankings and only a few top Indian B Schools have been able to make it there.

Comparison of ISB Hyderabad with the US B Schools cannot be done vaguely and proper parameters should be defined. Going through the FT Rankings might clarify your doubts regarding other B Schools and which one to choose.

ISB Hyderabad is a world-class Indian B School in the sense that it offers the following unique facilities

  • The duration of the MBA program is 1 year in contrast to the 2 years duration of the MBA program at other B Schools.
  • The institute offers a Global MBA degree in India
  • The visiting faculty is top-notch, consisting of big names from foreign universities like Wharton, Harvard, LBS, and Kellogg.
  • The placement scenario at ISB Hyderabad is excellent
  • The peer group has students from diverse backgrounds
  • The institute offers an enriching research culture to research enthusiasts

All these make ISB Hyderabad one of the most coveted B Schools in India.
