JEECUP 2026, officially the Uttar Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnic (UPJEE-P), is the state-level entrance exam for admission to 3-year diploma programmes at government and private polytechnic colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Conducted by the Joint Entrance Examination Council UP (JEEC UP), the JEECUP 2026 exam was held from June 2 to 9, 2026, in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for the first time in the exam’s history. The JEECUP 2026 result was declared on June 19, 2026, and Round 1 seat allotment was released on July 1, 2026 — counselling is now actively underway for 2.28 lakh diploma seats across 1,400+ polytechnic colleges in UP.

  • Round 1 Seat Acceptance: Candidates who received a seat in JEECUP 2026 Round 1 allotment (released July 1, 2026) must pay the ₹3,000 seat acceptance fee and report to their allotted institute with original documents. Check the exact acceptance deadline at jeecup.admissions.nic.in immediately — missing this window means losing your allotted seat.
  • Round 2 Counselling: JEECUP 2026 Round 2 registration is expected to begin in the third week of July 2026. In 2025, Round 2 started about 12–14 days after Round 1 allotment. Candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1 or want a college or branch upgrade should watch jeecup.admissions.nic.in for the Round 2 schedule.
  • Stray Vacancy / Mop-Up Round: A stray vacancy round for filling remaining seats is expected in August–September 2026. This round fills seats across 1,400+ colleges including seats left over after early rounds, giving late-qualifying or dissatisfied candidates another opportunity.
  • Rank Card: Your JEECUP 2026 rank card, released on June 19, 2026, is required for every counselling round and for final admission. Download it from jeecup.admissions.nic.in using your application number and password, and carry at least 4–6 printed copies to document verification.

What is JEECUP 2026?

JEECUP stands for the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh Polytechnic. The full name is the Uttar Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnic (UPJEE-P). JEEC UP, which functions under the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (BTEUP), conducts this exam every year for candidates who want to join 3-year diploma programmes in engineering, technology, pharmacy, agriculture, hotel management, fashion design, and more at polytechnic colleges across the state.

JEECUP is one of the largest state-level polytechnic entrance exams in India. More than 4 lakh candidates appeared for JEECUP 2026, competing for over 2.28 lakh diploma seats at 1,400+ colleges. Of these, 147 are government polytechnics funded and managed directly by the Uttar Pradesh government. The remaining institutions are private colleges affiliated with BTEUP.

The exam is divided into multiple groups — A, B, C, D, E1, E2, F, G, H, I, K, and L — each linked to a different diploma course category. Group A is the largest and most widely attempted, covering Diploma in Engineering and Technology programmes such as Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics Engineering. Each group has its own syllabus, eligibility requirement, and question paper.

A significant change in JEECUP 2026 is that the exam moved to Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for the very first time. Earlier, JEECUP was conducted in an offline, pen-and-paper format. This shift makes JEECUP 2026 a landmark cycle in the exam’s history and sets the format for future years as well.

JEECUP 2026 Answer Key

JEEC UP released the JEECUP 2026 provisional answer key on June 11, 2026, two days after the last exam session on June 9, 2026. The provisional key listed the correct answer for each question across all groups. Candidates could challenge answers they believed were incorrect by paying ₹100 per objection. The challenge window closed on June 15, 2026.

The final answer key, incorporating corrections based on accepted objections, was released on June 19, 2026, alongside the result. All ranks on the rank card were computed using the final answer key scores. If a candidate’s objection was accepted and a question’s answer was changed, their score was updated accordingly before the rank was calculated.

How to Calculate Your JEECUP 2026 Score Using the Answer Key

  • Download the answer key for your group from jeecup.admissions.nic.in
  • Match each of your responses against the answer key
  • Add +4 marks for every correct answer
  • Deduct 1 mark for every wrong answer
  • Leave unanswered questions at zero — no deduction applies
  • Compare your estimated score against qualifying cutoffs for your category

Candidates who submitted valid objections during the challenge window and received corrections in the final key will see those corrections reflected in their official rank card score.

JEECUP 2026 Marks vs Rank

Your JEECUP 2026 rank is based on total marks scored across all subjects after applying the negative marking rule. Based on JEECUP 2025 data and the difficulty level of the 2026 exam, the table below shows expected rank ranges for Group A (Engineering Diploma) candidates in the General category. These are estimates — the official rank card issued on June 19, 2026 carries your exact rank.

JEECUP 2026 Expected Marks vs Rank: Group A (General Category)

Marks Scored (out of 400) Expected Rank Range College Prospect
350 – 400 1 – 100 Top government polytechnic, any branch of choice
300 – 349 100 – 500 Government Polytechnic Lucknow/Kanpur, CSE or IT
250 – 299 500 – 2,000 Good government polytechnic, CSE/IT or Electrical
200 – 249 2,000 – 7,000 Government polytechnic, Mechanical/Civil in major district
150 – 199 7,000 – 20,000 Government polytechnic in smaller UP districts

50 – 99 50,000 – 1,20,000 Private polytechnic, limited government options
Below 50 1,20,000+ May not qualify; very limited private college options

The above ranks are based on JEECUP 2025 trends. Actual 2026 ranks depend on the total number of candidates and exam difficulty across shifts. For SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates, category ranks are assigned separately, and category-specific seats close at higher rank numbers than shown for General category above.

JEECUP 2026 Tie-Breaking Rules

If two or more candidates score identical total marks, JEEC UP uses the following tie-breaking sequence to assign ranks:

  • Rule 1: Candidate with higher marks in Mathematics gets the better rank
  • Rule 2: If still tied, the candidate with higher combined marks in Physics and Chemistry is ranked higher
  • Rule 3: The older candidate (higher age) gets the better rank
  • Rule 4: The candidate with a lower application number (earlier registration) gets priority

JEECUP 2026 Cutoff

The JEECUP cutoff works at two levels. The qualifying cutoff is the minimum marks you must score to be eligible for the counselling process. The admission cutoff is the closing rank at which a specific branch at a specific college was filled during a counselling round. These two numbers are very different — clearing the qualifying cutoff does not guarantee a seat at a government polytechnic if your rank is not competitive enough.

JEECUP 2026 Qualifying Cutoff: Category-Wise (Group A)

The official qualifying cutoff for JEECUP 2026 has been released. The marks below are the minimum required to be eligible for counselling registration:

Category Qualifying Marks (out of 400)
General / Unreserved (UR) 77.3 marks
OBC 77.0 marks
SC / ST 68.6 marks

JEECUP 2026 Group A: Round 1 Admission Cutoff Ranks at Top Government Polytechnics (General Category)

Round 1 seat allotment was released on July 1, 2026. The closing ranks for popular branches at top government polytechnics based on Round 1 data are as follows. Round 2 closing ranks are typically slightly higher (less competitive), giving candidates who missed Round 1 a second chance.

Branch Round 1 Closing Rank (Top Govt Polytechnics, General)
Computer Science Engineering (CSE) 500 – 2,000
Information Technology (IT) 800 – 3,000
Electrical Engineering (EE) 2,000 – 8,000
Electronics Engineering (ECE) 3,000 – 12,000
Mechanical Engineering (ME) 5,000 – 20,000
Civil Engineering (CE) 5,000 – 25,000

Clearing the qualifying cutoff only makes you eligible to register for counselling. To secure a seat at Government Polytechnic Lucknow or Kanpur in Computer Science Engineering, your rank must typically be under 2,000 for the General category. If your rank is above 50,000, focus your choices on private BTEUP-affiliated polytechnics while filling the counselling portal choices.

Official round-wise college and branch closing ranks are published on the counselling portal after each allotment. Candidates can use Round 1 closing ranks to evaluate their choices and strategy before Round 2 registration opens.

JEECUP 2026 Counselling

The JEECUP 2026 counselling process started on June 25, 2026, and is conducted entirely online at jeecup.admissions.nic.in. Round 1 counselling registration ran from June 25 to 30, 2026, and Round 1 seat allotment was released on July 1, 2026. Candidates who received a seat must now complete the acceptance process. Without registering for counselling and completing each step, your JEECUP 2026 rank card has no value — there is no automatic seat allocation.

  • Step 1 — Online Registration: Visit jeecup.admissions.nic.in and register on the counselling portal with basic personal details. Set a login password for the counselling session
  • Step 2 — Counselling Fee Payment: Pay the ₹3,000 seat acceptance fee online. This amount is adjusted against the total admission fee at your allotted college — it is not an extra charge
  • Step 3 — Choice Filling and Locking: Log in and enter your preferred colleges and branches in order of preference. You can add as many options as are available. Once you lock your choices, they cannot be changed for that round
  • Step 4 — Seat Allotment: JEEC UP assigns seats based on your rank, category, and the choices you filled. Round 1 allotment was released on July 1, 2026
  • Step 5 — Accept Allotted Seat: If the allotted seat is acceptable, confirm acceptance online. You can retain the current allotment while attempting an upgrade in a later round if a better option becomes available
  • Step 6 — Document Verification: Report to your allotted polytechnic with all required original documents. The college verifies your eligibility before confirming your admission
  • Step 7 — Final Admission: Pay the remaining college admission fee and complete all enrollment formalities to secure your seat in the diploma programme

Documents Required for JEECUP 2026 Counselling and Admission

  • JEECUP 2026 rank card (minimum 4–6 printed copies)
  • JEECUP 2026 admit card
  • Class 10 marksheet and pass certificate (Group A, B, C, D candidates)
  • Class 12 marksheet and pass certificate (Group E1, E2, H, I, K1 candidates)
  • Category certificate — SC, ST, OBC, EWS (issued by competent authority, if applicable)
  • Uttar Pradesh domicile certificate
  • Aadhaar card or government-issued photo ID
  • Migration certificate (required if Class 10 or 12 was completed from a non-UP board school)
  • 4–6 recent passport-size photographs

Candidates who fail to report for document verification after Round 1 allotment will lose their seat with no refund of the ₹3,000 fee. If you are dissatisfied with your Round 1 allotment, do not ignore it — accept the seat first, then upgrade in Round 2. Ignoring the allotment entirely disqualifies you from subsequent rounds depending on official rules announced for 2026.

In 2025, JEECUP counselling was conducted over 7 rounds, filling all available diploma seats from Round 1 through a final mop-up round in September. Candidates unsatisfied with their Round 1 allotment can participate in upgrade rounds while retaining their existing seat as a backup.

Top Polytechnic Colleges Accepting JEECUP 2026 Score

All government polytechnics and BTEUP-affiliated private polytechnic colleges in Uttar Pradesh accept the JEECUP 2026 score for admissions. The 147 government polytechnics are the most competitive because they offer very low annual fees (around ₹10,370 per year), strong state-recognised diplomas, and better placement connections with UP state government jobs. Seats at the most popular government polytechnics fill in the first or second counselling round.

Top Government Polytechnic Colleges in UP (JEECUP 2026)

College Name Location Popular Branches Approx. Annual Fee
Government Polytechnic, Lucknow Lucknow CSE, IT, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical ₹10,370
Government Polytechnic, Kanpur Kanpur Mechanical, Electrical, IT, CSE ₹10,370
Hewett Polytechnic Lucknow Civil, Mechanical, Electrical ₹10,370
Government Polytechnic, Ghaziabad Ghaziabad CSE, Electronics, IT ₹10,370

Government Polytechnic, Varanasi Varanasi Mechanical, Civil, CSE ₹10,370
Government Polytechnic, Agra Agra Mechanical, Electrical, Civil ₹10,370
Government Polytechnic, Prayagraj Prayagraj Civil, Electronics, Mechanical ₹10,370

Government Polytechnic Lucknow and Government Polytechnic Kanpur are the two most competitive institutions in JEECUP. For Computer Science Engineering at these colleges, Round 1 closing ranks have historically been under 600 for the General category. To secure any branch at a top-tier government polytechnic in UP, you generally need a rank in the top 5,000.

If your JEECUP 2026 rank is above 50,000, you still have options at private BTEUP-affiliated polytechnics in cities like Noida, Meerut, Bareilly, Allahabad, and Mathura. Private polytechnic annual fees are typically ₹40,000–₹60,000, and quality varies by institution. Always verify a private polytechnic’s BTEUP affiliation status, approval from the AICTE, and placement record before making it your first choice on the counselling portal.

JEECUP Preparation Tips for Future Aspirants

JEECUP 2026 is complete. If you are planning to appear for JEECUP 2027, the preparation approach below will help you build the right foundation based on the 2026 exam pattern and the switch to CBT mode.

Group A (Engineering Diploma): How to Prepare Effectively

  • Start with UP Board Class 10 textbooks: The complete Group A syllabus is based on Class 10 UP Board level. NCERT books for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics cover the same topics and are an excellent starting base — both sets of books are useful
  • Spend maximum time on Mathematics: Mathematics carries the highest question weight in Group A. Focus on Algebra, Trigonometry, Mensuration, and Coordinate Geometry — these areas account for a large share of questions historically
  • Master Electricity and Light in Physics: Electricity (Ohm’s Law, resistance combinations, and magnetic effects) and Light (lenses and reflection) appear most often in Group A Physics questions. Give these chapters extra time and practice
  • Cover Carbon Compounds and Chemical Reactions in Chemistry: These two chapters together account for the highest number of Chemistry questions. Carbon bonding, nomenclature, and types of chemical reactions are recurring topics
  • Solve JEECUP previous year question papers from 2020 to 2026: Past papers reveal the exact pattern, common question types, and topics that repeat every year. Solve them in timed conditions to build exam speed
  • Practise on CBT platforms: Since JEECUP has permanently moved to CBT mode, future candidates must practise on online test platforms and CBT-format mock tests. You get 1.5 minutes per question — online practice teaches you to navigate the interface without wasting time during the actual exam
  • Be smart about negative marking: Each wrong answer costs you a net 5 competitive marks — you lose the +4 you could have scored, and an additional –1 is deducted. If you are not reasonably confident about an answer, skip it rather than guessing randomly

Recommended Books for JEECUP Group A

  • UP Board Class 10 textbooks — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
  • Arihant JEECUP Polytechnic Entrance Exam Guide (Group A)
  • EduGorilla JEECUP Group A Practice Papers and Mock Tests
  • NCERT Class 9 and 10 textbooks for conceptual clarity

For Group E1/E2 (Pharmacy), shift your preparation to Class 12 level Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics. NCERT Class 11 and 12 books are the primary resource. For Group H (Hotel Management), focus on General Awareness, reading comprehension in English, and basic reasoning and verbal ability — Science subjects are not part of the Group H paper at all.

Scoring above 300 puts you in the top 500 ranks and opens choices across most branches at government polytechnics statewide.

Ques. What is the JEECUP 2026 qualifying cutoff for Group A?

Ans. The official qualifying cutoff for JEECUP 2026 Group A is 77.3 marks out of 400 for the General category, 77.0 marks for OBC, and 68.6 marks for SC/ST. Candidates who score at or above these marks are eligible to register for counselling. However, qualifying the cutoff alone does not guarantee a seat at a government polytechnic — competitive ranks are required for top institutions.

Ques. What is the eligibility for JEECUP Group A?

Ans. For JEECUP Group A (Engineering and Technology Diploma), you must have passed Class 10 from a recognised board with at least 35% aggregate marks. The minimum age is 14 years as of July 1, 2026. There is no upper age limit. Domicile in Uttar Pradesh is not mandatory but gives access to 85% of available seats — candidates from other states can only compete for the remaining 15%.

Ques. Is there negative marking in JEECUP 2026?

Ans. Yes, JEECUP 2026 has negative marking. You get +4 marks for each correct answer and –1 mark for each wrong answer. Questions you leave unanswered carry no penalty. Since each wrong answer costs you a net 5 competitive marks, it is better to leave a question unanswered if you are not reasonably confident rather than guess randomly.

Ques. How many seats are available through JEECUP 2026?

Ans. JEECUP 2026 offers admission to more than 2.28 lakh diploma seats across 1,400+ polytechnic colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 147 are government polytechnics with annual fees of around ₹10,370. More than 4 lakh candidates appeared for JEECUP 2026, making competition intense — especially for government polytechnic seats and popular branches like CSE and IT.

Ques. Can candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh apply for JEECUP?

Ans. Yes, candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh can apply for JEECUP 2026. However, 85% of total seats are reserved for UP domicile candidates. The remaining 15% of seats are available to candidates from other states. UP domicile candidates have a significant advantage in seat availability, particularly at government polytechnics where total seat numbers are already limited.

Ques. What documents are needed for JEECUP 2026 counselling?

Ans. For JEECUP 2026 counselling you need: JEECUP 2026 rank card, admit card, Class 10 marksheet and pass certificate (Group A candidates), category certificate if applicable, UP domicile certificate, Aadhaar card or government-issued photo ID, migration certificate if you studied outside UP, and 4–6 recent passport-size photographs. Always carry both original documents and self-attested photocopies of everything.

Ques. Was JEECUP 2026 conducted online or offline?

Ans. JEECUP 2026 was conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for the first time — fully online at designated exam centres across Uttar Pradesh. This was a major change from previous years when JEECUP was a pen-and-paper offline exam. Candidates answered all questions on a computer screen at their allotted centre. CBT mode is expected to continue in future JEECUP cycles.

Ques. What is the counselling fee for JEECUP 2026?

Ans. The JEECUP 2026 counselling requires payment of a ₹3,000 seat acceptance fee. This is paid online at the time of counselling registration and is adjusted against the total admission fee at your allotted polytechnic college. This fee is non-refundable if you cancel your seat, do not accept your allotment, or fail to report for document verification.
