What is AME CET 2026?
AME CET stands for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Common Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted by UDAI AVIATION Private Limited to provide admission to aviation courses at colleges approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Civil Aviation, AICTE, and UGC. The exam serves as a single gateway for students who want to build a career in the aviation sector — one exam, one rank, multiple course options at recognized institutes across India.
AME CET 2026 is conducted in multiple phases within the same year. Phase I ran from September 2025 through the May 2026 exam. Phase II registration is now closed (it ran from May 1 to May 31, 2026), with the Phase II exam due in the second week of June 2026. Phase III registration is currently open from June 1 to June 30, 2026, with the exam scheduled for the second week of July 2026. Each phase is an independent admission cycle with its own exam, result, and counselling round — but all three phases admit students for the same 2026–27 academic year.
The most popular course accessed through AME CET is the DGCA AME licence program — a 2-year technical training course that qualifies students to inspect, maintain, and certify aircraft for airworthiness under Indian aviation law. After completing the program and accumulating required practical experience, graduates can apply for DGCA AME licences under Category B-1.1 (turbine aircraft airframe and engines), B-2 (avionics), or B-3 (non-type rated piston engine aircraft). A DGCA AME licence is legally mandatory in India to sign off aircraft maintenance certifications — no airline can operate without licensed AMEs on staff.
Beyond AME, the exam also provides access to B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering, B.Tech Aerospace Engineering, BBA in Aviation Management, B.Sc. Aviation, diploma programs, and short-term certification courses in cabin crew, airport management, and ground staff operations. Colleges accepting AME CET scores are approved by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and inspected by DGCA, ensuring the training standards are aligned with international aviation regulations.
- Licence Courses: AME-DGCA (B-1.1 / B-2 / B-3), AME-EASA, Pilot Ground Training
- Engineering Courses: B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering, B.Tech Aerospace Engineering
- Graduation Courses: BBA in Aviation, B.Sc. Aeronautical, B.Sc. AME, B.Sc. Aviation

AME CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
AME CET 2026 eligibility varies by the type of course you want to pursue. There are three paper types in AME CET — each for a different educational background. Check the criteria carefully before applying for Phase III (registration open until June 30, 2026).
Age Limit
- You must be between 14 and 28 years of age at the time of admission.
- There is no upper age restriction for appearing in the entrance exam — but you must be within the 28-year limit when you actually take admission at the college.
- The lower age of 14 allows students who have just finished Class 10 to apply for shorter certification programs.
Number of Attempts
- You are allowed a maximum of 3 attempts across all phases and years of AME CET.
- Each phase appearance counts as one attempt. Since AME CET is conducted in multiple phases every year, plan your attempts carefully.
Minimum Marks
- A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination is required for all course categories.
- Candidates appearing in their final qualifying exam in 2026 can apply provisionally — admission is confirmed only after submission of the actual passing certificate.
Educational Qualification by Course and Paper Type
| Paper Type | Courses | Minimum Qualification | Min. Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper Type 1 | AME-DGCA Licence, B.Sc. AME, Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering (Degree & Diploma) | Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) | 45% |

- Paper type attempted (1, 2, or 3)
- Total marks scored out of 360
- All India Rank (AIR)
- Subject-wise marks breakdown
- Qualifying status — Qualified / Not Qualified
- Scholarship slab eligibility based on rank
- Instructions for participating in the counselling round
The rank from Phase I and the rank from Phase II are both valid for admission to the 2026–27 academic year. Both ranks are used for their respective counselling rounds. You cannot use a Phase I rank to participate in Phase II counselling or vice versa.
AME CET 2026 Cutoff: What is a Good Score?
The AME CET qualifying cutoff is the minimum marks required for your result to be marked "Qualified" and for you to become eligible for counselling. AME CET is not an elimination-focused exam like JEE Main — the qualifying bar is moderate, and the focus is on ranking candidates for seat allotment at participating colleges.
AME CET 2026 Score Range and Interpretation
| Score Range (out of 360) | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 100–110 marks | Qualifying range — clears the cutoff and becomes eligible for counselling |
| 110–180 marks | Good score — eligible for admission to recognized AME and aviation institutes |
| 180–250 marks | Very good score — access to top AME institutes; initial scholarship consideration |
| 250+ marks | Excellent score — merit scholarship eligible, priority in college and course selection |
Expected Category-wise Cutoff (Indicative)
| Category | Expected Qualifying Cutoff (out of 360) |
|---|---|
| General / OBC | 100–110 |
| SC / ST | 90–100 |
| Female (All Categories) | 90–105 |
To score between 110 and 180, you need roughly 28–45 correct answers out of 90, assuming no wrong answers. With -1 negative marking, you should focus on accuracy. Even scoring 30–35 correct answers (with no wrongs) gives you 120–140 marks — comfortably within the good score range and eligible for counselling at recognized institutes.
Keep in mind that the admission cutoff at individual colleges — especially at popular institutes in Delhi/NCR, Ahmedabad, and Pune — is generally higher than the qualifying cutoff. Higher-ranked candidates get first choice of college and course during counselling. For merit scholarships (Rank 1–5,000), aim for 180 marks or above.
AME CET 2026 Counselling Process
AME CET 2026 counselling is conducted separately for each phase. Candidates who qualify the exam (score above the qualifying cutoff) receive instructions on the rank card for participating in their phase’s counselling round. Phase I counselling was conducted in the last week of May 2026. Phase II counselling is expected in the last week of June 2026.
Phase-wise Counselling Schedule
| Phase | Counselling Date | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Phase II | Last week of June 2026 | Upcoming |
| Phase III | Last week of July 2026 | Upcoming |
| Phase I | Last week of May 2026 | (Over) |

AME CET 2026 Preparation Tips
Whether you are preparing for the Phase II exam (second week of June) or gearing up for Phase III (exam in the second week of July, registration open until June 30), these preparation strategies will help you score higher and improve your All India Rank.
1. Know Your Paper Type and Prioritise Accordingly
If you are a PCM student (Paper Type 1), Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics carry 240 out of 360 marks — 67% of the total paper. Dominate these three subjects and you have a strong rank secured. For Paper Type 3 (non-PCM), General Awareness and English each carry 120 marks — study both equally and focus on reasoning for the remaining 120 marks.
2. Use NCERT Books as Your Base (Paper Type 1)
AME CET Paper Type 1 closely follows the CBSE/NCERT Class 11–12 curriculum. Read every chapter in NCERT Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Understand all solved examples and complete exercise questions. More than 80% of AME CET questions are directly based on or closely derived from NCERT concepts — NCERT is non-negotiable.
3. Be Careful with Negative Marking
AME CET has -1 negative marking per wrong answer. This is different from many other entrance exams. Do not guess randomly — only attempt questions where you are reasonably confident about at least eliminating two wrong options. An unattempted question costs you nothing; a wrong answer costs -1. Skip and return to uncertain questions if time allows.
4. General Awareness: Stay Current on Aviation News
General Awareness in AME CET is not just static GK — it includes questions on the Indian aviation industry, DGCA regulations, new airline routes, airport expansions, and ICAO basics. Follow aviation news regularly. Read about DGCA circulars, new aircraft deliveries by Indian airlines, new airport inaugurations, and key government aviation policies.
5. English: Build Vocabulary and Grammar Daily
English carries 60 marks in Paper Type 1 and 120 marks in Paper Type 3. For Paper Type 1 students, English is often the most neglected section — which is a mistake. Learning 10 new words daily, revising basic grammar rules (tenses, articles, prepositions), and practicing comprehension passages for 20 minutes a day can add 40–50 marks to your total score.
6. Solve Previous Year Papers
AME CET previous year papers are available on the official website at amecet.in. Solving previous papers helps you understand the exact difficulty level, typical question framing, and section-wise time distribution. Aim to solve at least 5 full previous year papers under timed conditions before your exam.
7. Time Management: One Minute Per Question
You have 90 minutes for 90 questions — one minute per question on average. With negative marking, do not rush and make careless mistakes. Start with your strongest subject, skip difficult questions and come back to them, and use the last 10 minutes to review skipped questions. Practice full papers under timed conditions before exam day so you know exactly how to pace yourself.
8. Apply for Phase III If You Need More Preparation Time
Phase III registration is open until June 30, 2026, with the exam in the second week of July. If you feel 4–6 more weeks of preparation would significantly improve your score and rank — and therefore your scholarship eligibility — apply for Phase III instead of rushing into Phase II. A rank in the top 200 can earn you a 25–100% scholarship, which more than justifies an extra month of solid preparation.
