AIIMS Institutes are some of India's most prestigious medical colleges renowned for their quality education and healthcare services, per the health ministry data, by February 2025, India will have 24 functioning AIIMS. The number of MBBS seats varies among the AIIMS institutes. 

The total number of MBBS seats in AIIMS Colleges in India is over 2,000. AIIMS Delhi has the most seats while AIIMS Rajkot and AIIMS Madurai have the least. These seats are allocated based on the candidate’s performance in the NEET entrance exam and counselling process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releases the MBBS seat matrix for all AIIMS institutes. 

AIIMS Institutes in India and Total Seats

The total number of MBBS seats in AIIMS varies for each institution. The number ranges between 50 to 132. This variation allows flexibility to accommodate students as per the institute's capability and regional healthcare needs. AIIMS Rajkot and AIIMS Madurai have the lowest seats amongst all the institutes. AIIMS Delhi has the most seats at 132. It also has 7 seats for foreign students.

AIIMS MBBS Seat Reservation 2025

AIIMS has a seat reservation system in place for MBBS courses. This reservation system aims to provide equal educational opportunities to candidates from different backgrounds. Other than the category, some seats are also reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Ans. MBBS seat allocation for AIIMS institutes is done through NEET counselling. You should have a valid NEET scorecard to appear in the counselling process. You will be then allocated seats according to your preference and rank in different AIIMS institutes. 

Ques. Is there any AIIMS institute that provides MBBS seats to foreign students?

Ans. Yes, AIIMS Delhi has 7 MBBS seats reserved for foreign students. These candidates are not required to appear in the NEET exam. Instead, they must fill out the application form prescribed by AIIMS Delhi. It should reach the institutes through diplomatic routes on time for admission.

Ans. yes, AIIMS Delhi students do get opportunities to go to US/UK during MBBS — but the reality is a bit more complicated than it sounds. ICMR research grants: if you do solid research and get it approved by ICMR, the trip is fully funded. this is the best route. but you need actual research output, not just applying randomly Self-funded electives: Oxford, Hopkins, Harvard all have elective programs open to AIIMS students. most students who go this route pay out of pocket. Ans. No, Christians are not the only ones allowed at CMC Vellore for MBBS. This is one of the most common misconceptions about the college. CMC Vellore does have a unique admission system, but it's not exclusively for Christians: Christian sponsored seats: ~53-55% of MBBS seats are reserved for Christian candidates sponsored by registered church bodies/Christian organisations. These candidates need a church sponsorship letter. Open/All India seats: The remaining ~45-47% seats are open to candidates of all religions via NEET merit. These are highly competitive — CMC open category NEET cutoff is typically 650+ marks. so there are TWO different tracks at CMC: Christian track — lower NEET cutoff (since competition is within Christians only), requires church sponsorship Open track — very high NEET cutoff, no religion requirement CMC Vellore is a Christian minority institution (run by the Christian Medical College & Hospital Society) so the Christian seat reservation is legally protected. but they have never been exclusively for Christians. some of India's finest doctors from all backgrounds have graduated from CMC. if you score 650+ NEET, you can apply for the open merit seats regardless of religion.Read more
