Ans. NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.  On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.  The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs. The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.  For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds. Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them. Ans. The CSE department is a great department to study in VIT. Students are open to a lot of facilities and learning resources. The teaching staff is helpful as well.  The CSE department of VIT ranks right after top IITs, IIIT Hyderabad, BITS Pilani, and the top NITs. The department is well-reputed in the industry. VIT has a great research culture. The course curriculum is industry-oriented.  The coding culture at VIT is thriving. CSE students from the institute do great in GSoC, ACM ICPS, and other competitions.  There’s a great startup ecosystem on campus at VIT. Many people are doing great things in Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence.  You do not need to worry much about placement if you have joined VIT. In the 2021 placement drive, the highest CTC offered was 75 LPA.  So, choosing VIT for your CSE degree will definitely be worth it. Read more

Ans. IIITM Gwalior IT is better than VIT Vellore CSE. It has a better course structure. Students get to learn the core subjects from the first year itself. IIITM Gwalior placements are also better.  According to IIITM Gwalior placement highlights, around 85% of students from the IT branch get placed each year. Ans. CSE in IIIT Dharwad is a better option to opt for. As of now, they don't have a permanent campus but they will have their campus soon. See, there are pros and cons of every college/institute. Somewhere you might find one thing and another might be equipped with another better thing. IIIT Dharwad also has some pros and cons.  Cons: Don't have their permanent campus as of now and the temporary campus is also not that good. You have to pick your peer group very wisely because the type of people you choose will become your peer group. Pro The institute in which you will be studying is of national importance which is controlled by MHRD. It has a good reputation just like any other IITs/NITs. You will get the mentorship of some experienced faculties as PhD is mandatory for all the faculties here. Dharwad is quite close to Bangalore so you can get good placement opportunities. The campus of IIIT Dharwad will be really amazing. The facilities like hostel and mess are better in comparison to any other college/institutes. If you are a sports lover, you will have many sports facilities like cricket, football, basketball etc. And most importantly, you will have the brand name of IIIT which really matters. Ans. Considering this question, the first thing that can be highlighted is that both of these institutes cannot be compared at all. However, studying IT in IIIT Allahabad is far better as it offers several opportunities, as well as institutional environment and infrastructure to assist the student in their career growth appropriately. However, CSE at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is not so secure considering the programming prospects and study culture that the student will get at IIITA. Ans. I would recommend you choose IIT over NIT any day irrespective of the branch because it is recognized globally. The quality of packages and roles offered are also better and with the right motivation and determination, one can even change his branch to a better one. At IIT Kanpur, I would advise you to go for Chemical rather than Civil. BTech Chemical Engineering combined with Masters in Petroleum Engineering is the highest paying bracket in the USA with more than 74000 Jobs available for outsiders in the Middle East, US, and Canada at a five yr median of $ 18600. Additionally, at IIT Kanpur the ocean of electives to choose from enables you to pursue CS course side by side through certifications in 64/128/256 bit SSL Encryption, Data Structures, and Oracle which have great importance. While CS students can be found everywhere, you will find only a few Chemical Engineers. Concludingly, it’s best to go for IIT Kanpur Chemical for the long term or IIT Kanpur Civil with a branch change to EEE or Mechanical in mind.Read more

Ans. The general preference order is  College wise - IIT Bombay > IIT Kanpur > IIT Roorkee Branch wise - CS > Mechanical ~ Electrical. However, this is a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your individual preferences. Doing something that interests you is considerably superior in the long run to doing something you dislike solely for money since, after a few years, money no longer motivates you. Here are some information to make your decision easier:- The placement scenario for EE in IIT Kanpur is good and stands next to the CS department in the table. Though EE is the largest department when compared with others it still maintains its record well in placements. The NIRF Ranking of IIT Bombay is 3 , IIT Kanpur is 4 and IIT Roorkee is 5 . The Average placement at IIT Bombay Mechanical is 21.82 LPA with IIT Kanpur Electrical is 26.27 LPA and IIT Roorkee CSE is 22 LPA. More than 250 companies visited IIT Kanpur campus in 2023. EE offers specialisations like VLSI, SPCom, RF & Microwave, Power Engineering, Control & Automation . Placements for some of these specializations are  100 %, especially for VLSI, SPCom & RF. Ans. Most students join IITs with the mindset of changing their branch to a more preferred one after the first year. But in reality, once you come here you will realize that branch hardly matters here. This is because most students, especially those with no specific area of interest, which seems to be your case too, tend to go for non-core jobs for which the branch does not matter. What matters is your CPI and your overall profile and achievements. Those adamant about changing their branch can avail of the facility easily. The branch change depends on 2 factors, your CGPA and the availability of seats in the branch you want to get changed into. For Civil, Material Science, Aerospace, and Physics, you need a CGPA of around 6.5–7.5 For Economics, Mathematics Scientific Computing, Chemical, and Mechanical you need a CGPA of around 7.5–8.5 For Mechanical or Electrical, you need an 8.6+ CGPA For CS, you will need nothing less than a 10 CGPA in both the semesters  Honestly, it’s almost impossible to get a branch change into top branches like Mech, Electrical, or CSE. The chances are rare but worth trying. Most companies consider students from all the departments for placements. So, IIT Kanpur is a good option whether you want a branch change or not.Read more
