Ans. Yes, you can get IEM Kolkata with a rank of 6k. In 2021, the closing cutoff for the IT branch was 2483-8457. IEM Kolkata is an average college. The academics and facilities offered aren’t good for IT. Alumni of the institute who are well-established in the IT sector received the opportunities based on their talent and expertise. If you have other better options, you should choose them over IEM. As per the recent placement highlights, IEM Kolkata average CTC was INR 5-6 LPA. While the highest CTC offered to the student of this branch was INR 42 LPA. Read more

Ans. A friend of mine did her BTech from IEM Kolkata and now she is working as a Cyber Security Analyst in a big firm. Here are a few things that she experienced in her duration at the college. Unnecessary Rules: Students often complain about the unnecessary discipline enforced by the college to attend all of the lectures and seminars irrespective of their choice and usefulness. Faculty: In terms of faculty, there is a mix of average and good professors. But most of the good professors are moving to different colleges. Placements: In the terms of placement, the data may show it as amazing but in reality, most of the students of IEM end up in mass recruiting jobs offered by any IT company. Only a few of the students end up in good companies. If you are choosing IEM try to make the most of it. Other than college learning, try and take up some extra courses such as coding or hacking and security, it will help a lot. There are a handful of helpful faculties at IEM. Interacting and working with those professors will help a lot in going good places. Learn to utilize their time and learn new things. Learn something new and read as much as possible. If you are not happy with campus placements then you should look for off-campus placements as well.Read more

Ans. IEM Kolkatais known for its great placements. The Computer Science and Engineering department is one of the oldest departments in the Institute of Engineering and Management. Every year around 150 students in B.Tech (CSE) and 18 students in M.Tech (CSE) get admitted to the department. The college attracts very brilliant students because of the department reputation as well as the excellent placement records. IEM Kolkata B.Tech (C.S.E) provides around 95% Placements in 2020, with the highest salary packages 22 lacks, and lowest packages with 4 lakhs. For CSE, renowned companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, IBM, Tech Mahindra, and so on come for picking up some talents. TCS, Wipro, and Infosys are the mass recruiters on the campus. The Placement Cell of the Institute of IEM, Kolkata has set a standard for its placement by providing a minimum one offer to each and every student who has taken admission in IEM, Kolkata. Placement starts from the month of August and usually continues throughout the year until May. In IEM, placement for CSE is almost 100% in 2019. The lowest package offered is around 3.6 LPA while the average package will be around 5-6 lakhs per annum. And the highest will be about 18 lakhs per annum. TCS comes for placement and offers around 8 LPA to 25-30 students. In 2017 the average package is around 3.85 lakhs, and the highest package is around 15.5 lakhs. Ans. IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities. Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. Ques. Should I take CSE in KIIT or IEM, Kolkata?

Ans. I have a friend who scored a rank of 1536 in KIITEE and chose CSE in KIIT while another who got a rank of 4158 in WBJEE and went got IEM ECE. What I mean is that the institute does not matter but it’s your capability and skills that determine your success rate. I find judging colleges based on placements very silly. So, if your ultimate goal is BTech only then take any one between IEM and KIIT depending on your financial background but if you are planning to pursue higher education, IEM will help you save money that can later be used for higher studies.
