CSMU B.Tech Biotechnology FAQs
Ques. Can I get admission to B.Tech Biotechnology at CSMU with Biology in 10+2 instead of Mathematics?
Ans. Yes, CSMU accepts Biology or Biotechnology as the third subject (along with Physics and Chemistry) for admission to B.Tech Biotechnology. Mathematics is not mandatory for this programme, unlike most other B.Tech programmes. This makes it accessible to students from the PCB stream. However, you must have at least 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology combined. For entrance exams, MHT-CET PCB paper is the relevant exam for this programme.
Ques. What is the total fee for B.Tech Biotechnology at CSMU?
Ans. The total programme fee for B.Tech Biotechnology at CSMU is Rs. 6,55,000 over 4 years (including the one-time non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 15,000). The annual fee is Rs. 1,60,000 per year. Additionally, there is an application fee of Rs. 1,100 (non-refundable) and an examination fee of Rs. 1,000 per exam. Hostel accommodation is optional and costs between Rs. 92,000 and Rs. 1,40,000 per year depending on room type, with mess charges billed separately.
Ques. What career options are available after B.Tech Biotechnology from CSMU?
Ans. B.Tech Biotechnology graduates from CSMU can pursue careers in pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, agricultural biotech organisations, food processing industries, research institutions, and healthcare companies. Roles include research associate, bioprocess engineer, quality control analyst, regulatory affairs executive, and clinical research associate. Graduates can also pursue M.Tech Biotechnology, M.Sc. Biotechnology, or MBA in Pharmaceutical Management for higher studies. The growing biotech and pharma sector in the Mumbai-Pune corridor offers strong employment prospects.
Ques. Is B.Tech Biotechnology at CSMU different from B.Sc. Biotechnology?
Ans. Yes, B.Tech Biotechnology is an engineering degree (4 years) that combines engineering principles with life sciences, focusing on bioprocess engineering, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and industrial applications. B.Sc. Biotechnology is a science degree (3 years) with a stronger focus on theoretical biology and laboratory sciences. B.Tech graduates are eligible for engineering roles in industry and can also appear for GATE Biotechnology (BT) for M.Tech admissions. CSMU offers both programmes, and the choice depends on whether you prefer an engineering or science-oriented career path.
Ques. What entrance exams are accepted for B.Tech Biotechnology admission at CSMU?
Ans. CSMU accepts JEE Main, MHT-CET (PCB paper for Biotechnology), and CSMUCET (CSMU's own entrance test) for B.Tech Biotechnology admission. Students who have scored above 80% in Class 12 may be eligible for direct admission without an entrance test. CUET scores are also accepted for certain programmes at CSMU. Candidates are advised to check the official CSMU admissions portal for the latest accepted exam list for the 2026-27 session.
Ques. What is the refund policy if I withdraw from B.Tech Biotechnology after paying fees?
Ans. CSMU follows UGC guidelines for fee refunds. If you withdraw 15 or more days before the last date of admission, you receive a full refund minus a processing charge of up to Rs. 1,000. Withdrawing less than 15 days before the last date results in a 90% refund.
