IIMB EPGP FAQs

Ques. Is the IIMB EPGP worth it for someone with 5-7 years of experience? How does it compare to a two-year MBA?

Ans. The EPGP is specifically designed for mid-career professionals who want to accelerate their career without taking a two-year break. The one-year format means lower opportunity cost (one year of lost salary vs. two years). The IIMB brand, global rankings (#34 FT MBA 2026), and the diverse cohort of experienced professionals make it a strong choice. The average salary post-EPGP is Rs. 35.5 LPA (2026 batch), which represents a significant jump for most participants. However, the programme is extremely intensive, and candidates should be prepared for a rigorous academic year.

Ques. Is GMAT mandatory? What is a good GMAT score for IIMB EPGP?

Ans. Yes, a valid GMAT or GRE score is mandatory for the EPGP. There is no minimum GMAT score specified by IIMB; selection is relative to the applicant pool. However, based on the 2026 batch profile, the average GMAT score was 698, with a high of 760 and a low of 640. A score of 680 or above is generally considered competitive. Online GMAT/GRE scores are not accepted for the 2027-28 batch.

Ques. Can I apply to EPGP if I have a non-engineering background?

Ans. Yes, the EPGP welcomes candidates from all academic backgrounds. The 2026 batch included students from Engineering (48), Commerce (10), Science and Arts (5), and other disciplines (10). In fact, the Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship specifically targets students with non-engineering backgrounds to promote diversity in the classroom.

Ques. Is the International Immersion module mandatory? What does it involve?

Ans. Yes, the International Immersion module is compulsory for all EPGP students. It is a two-week module conducted at a partner foreign university and is included in the programme fee (Rs. 5.50 lakh). The module covers international business practices and provides cultural immersion. It is ranked #1 in India and #7 worldwide by the Financial Times (2024). Students not only learn about global business but also experience personal growth through cross-cultural interactions.

Ques. What is the placement process like for EPGP? Do all students get placed?

Ans. The placement process begins in November with Pre-Placement Talks (PPTs) by recruiters. The Career Development Services (CDS) team provides extensive support including resume workshops, personality tests, interview skill enhancement sessions, and career counselling. In recent years, 100% of students who participated in the placement process received offers. The 2026 batch had 72 out of 72 participating students placed, with a mean salary of Rs. 35.5 LPA. Top recruiters include McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Deloitte, Accenture, Amazon, and HSBC.

Ques. Can sponsored candidates apply to the EPGP? Are there any special provisions for them?

Ans. Yes, sponsored candidates are welcome to apply to the EPGP. There is no separate admission process for sponsored candidates; they follow the same application and selection process as other applicants. Interested sponsored candidates may reach out to the IIMB marketing team at [email protected] for more information. Sponsorship does not provide any relaxation in eligibility criteria (GMAT/GRE requirement, work experience, or academic qualifications).

IIM Bangalore: 2 Answered Questions

What are the placement prospects for one pursuing PGP from IIM Bangalore with 7 years of work experience in PSU?

Dhrishti Tuli
Deborah SamStudied at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

IIM Bangalore is supposedly the best school for people with prior work experience. In comparison to other IIMs in India, this is completely true. The lateral placements in IIMB deserve credit. There is, however, a stipulation regarding the number of years of work experience. If someone has 2-3.5 years of work experience, it is an ideal place for him because he will be allowed in almost all companies in both laterals and finals. Everyone is welcome to compete in the finals. In general, the following three things occur:

  • Candidates with 0-2 years of work experience are good for finals but have few chances in laterals. Preferred in marketing, finance, and top consulting positions (for the brightest).
  • Candidates with (2-3.5) years of professional experience are excellent for laterals and finals. Preferred in all situations, including consulting.
  • Candidates with (3.5-4.5) years of work experience: Good for laterals, with an average chance of making it to the finals (but good for average consulting roles and relevant experience)
  • Candidates with 4.5+ years of work experience have a poor chance of making it to the finals, except for relevant experience and some consulting roles, and a mixed chance of making it to the laterals ( some might end up getting good, for some, it might be average)

It is determined by the candidate's profile, achievements, type of work experience, GPA (DML list), networking, communication skills, the nature and demand of the recruiting company, the job market, availability, and so on.

Prospects for 7 years of work-ex are now available. With that, you should be prepared to explain its alignment with your career goals during the shortlisting process. Some startups do offer opportunities to talented students with extensive work experience. Getting on the DML list increases your chances of success everywhere. You should have place com people on your side. If you believe that these things are difficult for you, try taking sabbaticals/study leaves (if you work in a PSU) and evaluating later. You will almost certainly be assigned here. The placement's quality cannot be guaranteed.
