JNU Courses & Fees FAQs
Ques. What do JNU M.Tech fees look like for engineering students compared to other universities?
Ans. JNU’s M.Tech program is very affordable. The total fee for the full 2-year course is only about INR 658–INR 740, which comes to roughly INR 370 per year. This is much cheaper than programs at IITs, NITs, BHU, or Delhi University. The reason is that the government heavily subsidizes JNU, focusing on making education accessible rather than earning money. Hostel and other small charges are often covered by scholarships, such as Non-NET fellowships, so students usually don’t have to spend much extra.
Ques. Are there waivers or scholarships covering JNU course fees?
Ans. JNU charges very low tuition fees. While there are no full fee waivers, many scholarships and concessions help eligible students cover most of their expenses. These include the Merit-cum-Means scholarship for families earning below INR 2.5 lakh per year, Non-NET fellowships, and income-based freeships or fee concessions for students from families earning below INR 1 lakh per year, with extra benefits for SC/ST students. Additional support such as Jawahar Bhawan Trust scholarships, UGC JRF, and state government schemes further reduce costs. Because of this strong financial aid system, studying at JNU is highly affordable, and students can apply for these benefits through the JNU portal after admission..
Ques. Why are JNU MSc and MBA fees under INR 1000 yearly?
Ans. Students point out M.Sc and MBA tuition stays below INR 1,000 per year at JNU, questioning expectations for quality at such subsidized rates. Commenters from a modest background said this structure enabled their post-grad without loans, unlike other universities or colleges.
Ques. Are the JNU MCA course fees really that low? How is that even possible?
Ans. From a student's perspective on Quora, yes, the fees are extremely affordable as JNU is heavily subsidized. The semester fee at the time of admission is around INR 283, with about Rs 150 added for each subsequent semester, making the total for the entire course under Rs 1,500. This is possible due to government funding aimed at making higher education accessible.
