Course Curriculum Overview

5

I would say the course curriculum of Eco Hons. is quite relevant, especially for someone who finds a strong foundation in both theoritical and applied economics. One of the main reasons I chose this course was its balance between core subjects like microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, mathematical methods, and development economics The teaching is quite interactive apart from lectures, teachers also encourage presentations, project, research assignments. Still i feel there is a scope for industry-oriented exposure, workshops on data softwares like Stata or R, guest lectures from professionals and internship integrated into the curriculum to make us more job ready. In terms of exam college follows DU semester system so we have two major exams in a year with IA and CA. Exams definately require consistent study.

Placement Experience

3

Since i am 2nd year myself, hearing from seniors, seeing placement cell activities and reading reports, placement at ipcw are decent but far from perfect. The placement drive is not as huge or reliable as some commerce Acc. to the nirf report, for ug courses out of 1204 eligible students 118 got placed, which is roughly 9-10, for pg course, out of 100 eligible students only 6 got placed. Median package for UG was 6.20 lakhs per annum, and for pg is 6.7 lakhs per annum. In earlier years (2022-23) , median UG package was higher. The highest package went to 23 lakhs per annum which was quite impressive. It was from DE Show and co., Wipro, Capgeminie etc. there are regular recruiters like DE. Shaw abd co.,Wipro, Capegemini, Godrej properties, Sirion Labs etc. What i feel personaly as an eco hons. student unless i build extra i cant really expect placement. Masters and competetive exams are next option

Fees and Financial Aid

When i joined IPCW for economics hons, one of the first thing that struck me and my parents was the college fees though it was high amongst other DU colleges but the fess structure was clear and transparent. The fees differ acc to the course you opt. For humanities courses it ranges from 20,000 to 23,000 where as commerce courses are charged a little more ariund 32,000-33,000, and Bsc. Courses are charged even more. I am currently in the second year, so i paid 29,000 in the first year which included 2k-3k as caution money, which is refundable at the end of the course, 5k as addmission fees, 4k as registration fees. There are two hostels in ipcw - Kalavati Gupta Hostel (in-campus) with non-AC rooms costing around 1,56,000 which includes boarding, lodging, mess, common facilities, and security deposit. The second is IP Hostel (outside campus) with AC rooms costing around 1,97,000. Scolarships such as Dr. Sadhana Chatarjee Memorial scholarship for eco students and Balraj Khillan Memorial Scolarship for english hons.

Campus Life

4

Being in the 2nd year at ipcw, the campus life here is a balanced one which is not just limited to the classes. It has a vibrant social environment with people from diffrenent regions and ethnicity. Coming to the infrastruture its really beautiful from outside with white building and beautiful flowers. But in reality inside the rooms its not the same situation. The sports ground is big equiped with gym, table tennis court, badminton court, basketball court and swiming pool (not functional for now), voleyball court etc. The library is fully air conditioning with books from each fields. Its a best place to study peacefully with focus. We have Amul, Nescafe, Canteen (in campus) and a food stall just outside the main gate. Affordibilty is decent, quality of food in canteen is not that good. Classrooms have projectors and soft boards and we also have a lift in new academic block. There are also AV rooms, translation rooms, conference room, AVLT room. We also have a Annual Sports Week called Ananya for sports enthusiats, sports are encouraged here. About the socities, these are honestly not that active plus we do not have socities like consulting, finance or modeling socities. But we do have NCC, NSS, e-cell, p-cell, women development cell, deb soc, music society,mridang...

Hostel Facilities

3

So i used to live in vijay nagar, there everything was provided mess 4times, laundry, wifi, housemade but it was far from college, so in second year i moved to gtb hudson lane, its close to gtb metro station so i do not need to spend more conveyance. I pay 12000 as my rent per month with almost everything provided in old pg. Food is was better quality, there is 3 time meal. We usually get idli sambar, dal, roti, chawal, mix veg, bhindi, aloo peri, kheer, halwa, dal makhni, manchurian etc. Hostel registration process is quite simple we just need to submit our forms with required details and documents. After that on the basis of your CUET scores, and category and availability we get college hostel. But the eligibility is you need to be a outstation student (not even Delhi NCR are eligible). College fees are affordable but still considering pg is cheaper than ip hostel.

Admission

I applied for three other universities apart from DU which is Ashoka University Noida, BR Ambedkar University and BHU. So, in the application process of Ashoka, i first filled out a form which was rigourous and i got slected on the bais of that form after that i got the chance to get interviewed by well known professor of Ashoka. But unfortunately i didnt get that college. I dont understand till now that what went wrong in the interview. After that i applied in BHU i got a seat for economics hons. at its main campus but i chose DU over BHU. At last during my process of DU addmissions i applied for BR Ambedkar University and again i got a seat in eco. Hons course but when i filled my preference list for DU, i got ipcw and i accepeted my seat there. This process was long and tedious but i wanted LSR, SRCC, Hindu these colleges over ipcw but i feel like i am settled here with my friends and the enviornment and everything is going good. To get eco hons course in Du, the eligibilty is to give any three paper of your 12th class and a mandatory maths and english paper in CUET . Now after giving the exams, we have phases of rounds, first is to ligin yourself while filling out your details in smarth portal and then comes prefrence list where we need to mention the college and course. We need to rank those colleges with the course acc to your prefrence. On the basis of the cut off you are alloted with the seat. Cut offs varies with the time, cut off marks in the year 2023-24 for ipcw for eco hons.course was 650/800 for general category, for obc and ews it was around 540/800 while for sc,st students it was 450/800

Faculty

3

As i said faculty members are goal oriented so yes they focus mainly on academics and they personally helpful when asked some personal life doubts they are open to have conversation. But senior teachers are not that interactive towards students they come and complete their syallabus which feels like its just their duty to do so. The student teacher ratio is 1:70. Economic hons. course is very rigrous. Ranging from three core subjects which depends on which semester you are in and apart from that students are also responsible to give SEC, AEC, VAC, GEC/DSE exams which are assessed in the exams. We have two IA (Internal assessment) in a semester which is of 12+12(tests) and 6 marks attendance making total 30 marks of IA. There are two CA (continous assessment) of 35 marks (quiz, assignments, tests, group disscussion etc) and 5 marks attendance. The faculties i like are from sem 1 Pratistha Chaturvedi and Sharvasti Soni ma'am. They were very relaxed and i loved the way they use to teach us maths and micro. The faculty members i didnt like are the ones who just come to teach for an hour and doesnt care about us. These are mostly senior teachers.

Night Life

4

At night college looks so so so beautiful with lightings and all its the prettest at night. For hotelers campus in timmings are 8-9pm. Locality is safe to visit at night and its beautiful too. You could have one of the best experience in and outside the campus of ipcw. Just you need your friends and your willingness to go out.

Other Applied Colleges

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Economics)

Economics Hons. Is known in DU and their are more placement chances here.So i preferred DU over BHU

This course curriculum includes learning across 2 feilds like i have economics and maths and later we can continue 4th year to get hons degree . So its really gives time for a person to test himself or herself about which field to go on for as specialization. The difficulty level for this course is easy to moderate.
