What Students Say
Likes
- Proximity to metro stations and well connected to every memas of transport
- NCC was the best part here. Full of enjoyment and discipline
- A few teachers here are really boon for the students
Dislikes
- Atmosphere during Union Elections. The wastage if paper was the worst part.
- They don't offer any placement. Students have to work on their own. Throughout three years of my graduation I never saw a single company visiting the college for placement.
- The infrastructure is also quite old and the water coolers rarely work. Washrooms are always broken and smelly, very much similar to public washrooms.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum I would say is a bit hard compared to other universities but this will at the same time help you when you apply for any government exam related to economics. Also, will help you much in you postgraduate program. The use of foreign authors' books can be considered as a con for some students. Not everyone can understand the words easily. All the principles in economics are based on assumptions and hold little relevance in real life situations but certainly are important to understand how economy works. Regarding difficulty level of exams, I was good at Stats, ecotrix and MME, so I found those subjects easy compared to others.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees was somewhere around 7k for furst year then decreasing subsequently in second and third year to around 6 and 5k respectively. Total fee paid roundes off to 18k. There are several scholarships available but I didn't avail any so have no concrete information. But certainly there was some scholarship for students of reserved category which out passed the fee paid as well.
Campus Life
Campus life wasn't much happening. Though there are several clubs available but there isn't proper infrastructure available to support them. Being a student of ECONOMICS (HONS), you will be majorly surrounded by your studies, assignments, ECO fests and internals. There are no facilities in the classrooms as such. It's just wooden benches, Fans and green board. Only baisc facilities. Library I would say is the best part about the college, it's all stacked up with any relevant book that you might need but you need to make some efforts to find them out. Regarding sports, none of the students of our class ever participated in sports though there used to be sports day as well.
Admission
There used to be nothing like applying to specific college in our times. Once you have filled the form and courses you are interested in, you were eligible for all the colleges under DU that offer you subject of choice. But the admission to any particular college was based on the merit (cut off marks) in your 12th Boards. I got into Satyawati in my 2nd cut-off list and aince this was very near to my relative's home, I took admission here. Had I waited till 5th cut-off, I would have been in North Campus. Regarding admission process, it's changed now. Previously, it was based on merit and now everyone has to apprear for community Entrance Test (CUET)
Faculty
I wouldn't say there's a shortage if faculty. The number if teachers were apt and a few of then are really very helpful and serious about studies. But there are always some teachers who would rather gossip in class or rarely visit the calss and never showed interest in teaching students. Ms Basanti and Mr Swaroop are really very helpful and serious when it comes to studies. All the faculty members are easily approachable. As far as exams are concerned, there's a semester system and two internal assessment in each semester. Some teachers often consider taking 3-4 internal assessments/assignments and use the best two scores for assessments.
