SSN Memories

I felt my college to be extremely good. It made me think as an Computer Science engineer. I have imbibed lot of good things from SSN. I feel the real value of education lies in the ability to think in your field. I feel, I have acquired such a skill with the help of my Professors at SSN.

I took GATE, an eligibility exam for M.E/M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. I qualified GATE and scored 97.5 percentile. Even though I was called as the seventh candidate for Anna University first day counseling, I preferred joining SSN College of Engineering. The reasons behind my decision is quite broad from full tuition fees waiver for GATE qualified candidates above 90 percentile, with a monthly stipend of Rs. 8000 provided by MHRD, and the college ambiance.

The course covers the advanced topics of the undergraduate course with some technology oriented subjects. We do have some guest lectures from leading firms to bridge the gap between the industry and academics. Our department mainly focuses on programming skills of every individual. We are made to develop our programming skills in the first year. Later the next year, every one is made to work on some real world problem for their M.E project. Each student is guided by a Professor, and copying or purchasing a project is strictly prohibited. Professors are smart enough to identify the originality of the work and he is monitored periodically with seminars and discussions.

The internships for M.E students are less. I have seen lot of UG students applying for summer internships. Personally I haven't attended any of these internships so I wont be able to talk on it.

Our college organizes pre-placement as well as higher education programs. There used to be a huge list of companies for Computer Science Engineering core such as Microsoft(19L-80L), Amazon (13L), Zoho (6L), Fuji Xerox (13L), Thoughtworks, Ascendant and other service oriented companies such as TCS, Infosys, CTS, Wipro, Accenture.

There are technical, cultural festivals in our College but M.E students usually wont be part of it. We used to participate on the day of the event and not in the organizing front. The cultural fest is really mind blowing. It is really difficult to express in words rather I would suggest you to take part in one such event and fee the experience. Mostly the cultural fest happens in the month of January.

The tuition fees and hostel fees together costed around a lakh for one year. The fees is as per the Anna University norms and no hidden fees will be taken from the students. The way the institute is maintained makes you feel the cost inexpensive. We do have access to several online journals, books and wifi so most of the academic purchases are taken care in the fees itself.

I got merit scholarship by which my full tuition fees and hostel fees was waived. There are several scholarships provided by the institute, the aluminis for district toppers, for poor people who wont be able to pay their educational fees. Each year around 4 crores is provided as scholarship for the needy.

The campus is really nice, you will have a feel of being in a park. Your mind will feel relaxed as you go around the campus. Men to women ratio is about 1:2 in M.E computer science course. We have several sports activities to participate which I hardly did. Our department used to organize workshops on booming technologies, we have i-cell where students used to share their talents with others.

In our Hostel, two people used to share a room. The room are spacious and comfortable. Mostly no one cooks in their rooms but you do have space for that as well. We have common washrooms which is cleaned regularly. Incase of issues, warden stays in the hostel, so that we can call him any time in need. Single rooms with AC and attached wash rooms are available in additional cost. Mess food is not that good and needs improvement.The quantity of the food is unlimited.

We aluminis are connected through the social network. Most of them do update their current company, location and others. They can be accessed without even knowing them earlier. So those facilities are available and is yet to be made for good use.

Our lab practice sessions will be really hectic. The problems to be solved will be thought provoking. Each code should be unique and as I said earlier, Professor can smell you copying. So If a person is able to cross his practice sessions, then the lab exams appear easy. The presentations prepared during class session will have the keywords related to the topics, this will help to remember things for the examinations.

I applied for M.E in Computer Science and Engineering through management quota by downloading an application form from SSN institute website and submitted all the relevant documents. The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview before the actual start of Anna University counseling. The interview had some basic technical questions related to undergraduate course on Computer Science.

Most of the Professors are really interested towards teaching and research. Some of our Professors use sophisticated tools such as Asymptote, Latex etc. to prepare their presentations which consume a lot of time. This shows their real interest towards the subject. The Professor used to suggest some standard books and journal papers apart from references provided by the university, this provides signature to SSNites.
