Remarks

Good aspects : Hard to come up with something apart from the fact that it is centrally located. Bad aspects : Everything can go wrong here. The admission process was quite simple. I opted for this college after getting quite a bad entrance exam rank to be honest. The reason I preferred to attend college at Vemana ( an underwhelming decision on hindsight) was only because I could cut down on the commute. It may seem trivial but to me, it was perfect! Before I go further, I am Anagha and I am happy you took the time to read my review :) I take full responsibility for whatever opinions I go on to state. At the same time, all of this comes from a place of non-vengeance. Please do consider that I am giving my honest opinion from the years 2014-2018 (the period of my degree). It is the year 2020 (in the run up to 2021). I still have a couple of people I know who are attending college here and my opinions hold good for this time frame. I'm optimistic for 2040 ;)

Course Curriculum Overview

1

I took up Computer Science and there is no logical explanation behind this. There are roughly 120 students (divided into 2 sections). I may have forgotten the specifics. Apologies. The staff room consisted of about 10-15 teachers dedicated only to the Computer Science department. I can say this with complete confidence that the teachers are very ill-equipped. I have seen some passionate teachers (countable on the fingers of one hand) whom I cannot generalize but most of them are way below the mark. This is not just in one department but across departments. The teachers side you out if they don't like that you're not in accordance with their plans and it is very clear in the vibe. You cannot have a voice of your own (all stemming from an unfortunate, entitled hierarchy). This would have even been tolerable if the teachers were upto a certain level but I can vouch for this not being the case. They are also extremely biased to a certain section of population.

Placement Experience

1

Right from the 6th semester (out of 8 semesters), companies started trickling in but they were few and far between. It really gained momentum only in the 8th semester. The companies which visited weren't very well known ones so my memory serves me bad on this one to name them. However, I can say that out of 120 students of Computer Science, maybe 10 of us would have got selected on campus. If somebody did get hired outside, it would almost be as though the college was taking credits for this! Half the companies that came didn't hire anybody (at least not from our department). It doesn't help that these companies have pretty high standards and at the end of it all, we had to look after ourselves since we had been so ill-equipped. The average package being offered was around 2.8 LPA to maybe 3.2 LPA. My plans after getting the degree was simply to land a job. I was lucky enough to have got it after almost 5-6 months of graduation. It isn't simple, guys!

Fees and Financial Aid

As of when I studied, the fee structure was in accordance to the what the board of central exams specified. I did come to know that scholarships were being given to OBCs but I never discussed about it since it's a private thing. I don't know much about scholarship and financial assistance, unfortunately. With respect to jobs that one could get on campus with a stipend, this has never happened in India (at least, not that I know of) until the time I have graduated. I know of my cousins who went to the US and worked in the campus library for a stipend or worked as an assistant to the professors. I have never seen this here......

Campus Life

1

So, with respect to social life, I found some of my very close friends from this place. We do have an annual fest which I was super excited about but soon realized that it was just for "Vemanites". This may have changed. At the time, I just had good fun only and ONLY because of my friends. The library is pretty basic. It's just a hoarding of many many syllabus text books which run out during exam time. There are the occasional magazines but the library itself was pretty dull and boring to me ( mind you, I would get excited to always enter the library at school ). I never usually went there. There were no sports or extracurricular activities on campus. Period. There was just a plain ground which can hardly be classified as a ground anymore considering the rise of so many buildings around it. There were no social groups, clubs or website for students, run by student.

The overall placements of BMSIT is good. The average placement percentage is approximately 75-80%. There is a seperate Placement cell in BMSIT which helps in career options and also provide regular skill training programmes according to industry requirements. The average package in BMSIT is 6-9lpa and i have seen maximum of 22 lpa of a CS guy placed in Phonepay In our (civil) branch the average package is 4.5 lpa and placement percentage is 80%. If you not wish to go for jobs and have an idea to start a business, there is a inovation cell which supports for your buniness ideas. It also provides various online and offline platfroms to expose your ideas and helps getting funds is your ideas is really good.
