Understanding the CUET UG 2026 marking scheme is essential to performing well in tomorrow's exam-particularly because negative marking of –1 per wrong answer interacts critically with the new all-50-compulsory format.
| Answer Type | Marks Awarded | Strategy Note |
| Correct Answer | +5 marks | Reward per question |
| Wrong Answer | –1 mark | 5 wrong answers cancel 1 correct answer (25 marks lost) |
| Unattempted / Left Blank | 0 marks | Safer than blind guessing; leaves score unaffected |
| Dropped / Deleted Question | +5 marks to ALL candidates | NTA awards bonus marks on questions cancelled post-exam |
- Total marks per paper: 250 (50 questions × 5 marks). With all 5 subjects, maximum possible marks = 1,250.
- Accuracy matters more than speed — a student answering 35 correctly and leaving 15 blank scores 175, while a student answering all 50 with 10 wrong scores 200. Only attempt confidently.
- For uncertain questions, use the Mark for Review feature on the CBT interface to flag and return later.
The single most important change in CUET UG 2026 that every candidate must know before sitting the exam tomorrow: all 50 questions in every paper are now compulsory — the option to skip questions and attempt 40 out of 50 (as in 2024 and earlier) no longer exists.
| Feature | CUET UG 2025 & Earlier | CUET UG 2026 (New) |
| Questions to Attempt | 40 out of 50 (internal choice) | All 50 — No internal choice |
| Total Papers Available | 63 papers | 37 papers |
| Max Subjects Allowed | Up to 6 | Up to 5 |
| General Test Name | General Test | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
| Duration per Paper | 45–60 minutes (varied) | 60 minutes (same for all papers) |
| Marking Scheme | +5 / –1 | +5 / –1 (unchanged) |
| Discontinued Subjects | — | Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Legal Studies, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Engineering Graphics |
- The removal of internal choice is the most significant structural shift in CUET since the exam launched in 2022. The old buffer of skipping 10 difficult questions is no longer available.
- Since all 50 questions are now compulsory and negative marking of –1 applies per wrong answer, blind guessing is risky — but leaving questions blank (0 marks) is safer than guessing.

As per the CUET UG 2026 Admit Card, the entry gates at exam centres will close strictly 30 minutes before the exam start time — no candidate will be allowed entry after the gates close under any circumstances.
| Shift | Reporting Time | Gate Closing Time | Exam Start Time | Exam End Time |
| Slot 1 (Morning) | 7:00 AM | 8:30 AM | 9:00 AM | ~12:15 PM |
| Slot 2 (Afternoon) | 1:00 PM | 2:30 PM | 3:00 PM | ~6:15 PM |
- Candidates are strongly advised to reach the centre at least 2 hours before the exam start time — security checks and biometric/photo verification will create queues due to the large number of candidates.
- Candidates arriving after the gate closing time will not be allowed entry — this is a strict NTA rule with no exceptions.
- Exact shift start time and gate closing time are printed on each candidate's individual admit card — always cross-check with your personal hall ticket.
As the CUET UG 2026 exam begins tomorrow (May 11, 2026), here are the most critical last-night guidelines from NTA that every candidate must follow:
- Print 2–3 copies of your CUET UG 2026 Admit Card on A4 paper tonight. Do not rely on printing tomorrow morning.
- Check your exact slot, reporting time, and exam centre address on the admit card. Use Google Maps to locate the centre and estimate travel time with morning traffic.
- Keep your valid original photo ID — Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID, or Class 12 Board Admit Card with photograph — alongside the admit card.
- Charge nothing overnight — mobile phones, smartwatches, and Bluetooth earphones are all strictly banned inside the exam hall.
- Set multiple alarms and sleep early — especially Slot 1 candidates who must report by 7:00 AM.
- Candidates wearing religious attire (hijab, kara, etc.) must arrive at the exam centre 2 hours before the exam — additional security frisking will be conducted.
