PMCA M.Arch. FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between M.Arch. (course_id 5662) and M.Arch. (Habitat Design) (course_id 11763) at PMCA - are they the same program?
Ans. Both listings refer to the same 2-year full-time M.Arch. program at PMCA with a specialization in Habitat Design. PMCA offers only one M.Arch. specialization - Habitat Design - and the two course IDs are simply different database entries for the same program. There is no separate M.Arch. without the Habitat Design specialization at PMCA. Students should not be confused by the two listings; the fees, seats, eligibility, and admission process are identical for both.
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for M.Arch. (Habitat Design) admission at PMCA, or can I apply through OJEE PGAT alone?
Ans. Both GATE (AR paper) and OJEE PGAT are accepted for M.Arch. admission at PMCA. A valid OJEE PGAT rank is sufficient for admission through the Odisha state counselling process - you do not need GATE specifically. However, if you have a GATE score, you may also apply directly to the college. Most seats at PMCA are filled through OJEE counselling, so appearing in OJEE PGAT is the most reliable route for candidates targeting PMCA. GATE scores are additionally useful if you are simultaneously applying to NITs or other centrally-funded institutions.
Ques. What does the Habitat Design specialization actually cover in the M.Arch. curriculum at PMCA?
Ans. The Habitat Design specialization focuses on the design and planning of human settlements, with emphasis on sustainable housing, affordable housing design, environmental planning, vernacular architecture, and community-based design approaches. The curriculum typically includes design studios, research methodology, building technology, environmental studies, and a dissertation. This specialization is particularly relevant for students interested in working with government housing agencies like HUDCO, state housing boards, Smart City missions, and NGOs working in the development sector.
Ques. How competitive is admission to M.Arch. (Habitat Design) at PMCA through OJEE PGAT?
Ans. With only 20 seats and a relatively small pool of M.Arch. aspirants in Odisha, the competition through OJEE PGAT is moderate compared to national-level programs. However, since PMCA is the only dedicated architecture PG college in Odisha, it attracts candidates from across the state and neighboring regions. Candidates with a GATE score in the AR paper or a good OJEE PGAT rank generally have a strong chance of securing admission. Students from outside Odisha can also apply through OJEE counselling using their GATE scores.
Ques. Are there any research or thesis opportunities in the Habitat Design specialization at PMCA?
Ans. Yes, the M.Arch. (Habitat Design) program at PMCA includes a mandatory dissertation/thesis component in the final year. Students are expected to undertake original research in areas related to habitat, housing, settlements, or environmental design. The college has faculty with expertise in these areas who guide students through their research. Some students have also collaborated with external organizations and government bodies for their thesis projects, which adds practical value to the research output.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of OJEE counselling and admission to PMCA for M.Arch.?
Ans. At the time of OJEE counselling and subsequent admission to PMCA, candidates typically need to produce: B.Arch. degree certificate and mark sheets (all years), GATE scorecard or OJEE PGAT rank card, Class 10 and Class 12 certificates, domicile/residence certificate (for Odisha quota seats), caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC candidates), character certificate from the last institution attended, migration certificate, passport-size photographs, and a valid photo ID proof. Candidates are advised to carry both originals and self-attested photocopies of all documents. The exact document list is published in the OJEE 2026 information brochure available at odishajee.com.
