GCQ M.Com FAQs
Ques. Is GU-ART compulsory for M.Com admission at GCQ, or can I get admission based on my B.Com marks alone?
Ans. GU-ART is mandatory for all M.Com admissions at GCQ and all Goa University affiliated colleges. Your B.Com percentage is only used to determine eligibility (minimum 40% aggregate required). The actual merit list and seat allotment are based entirely on your GU-ART rank. Even if you have scored very high marks in B.Com, you must appear for and perform well in GU-ART to secure a seat. The GU-ART for Commerce is a 100-mark MCQ paper of 90 minutes with negative marking.
Ques. Can a BBA graduate apply for M.Com at GCQ, or is it only for B.Com students?
Ans. Yes, BBA and BBA (Financial Services) graduates are eligible to apply for M.Com at GCQ directly without needing to appear for the Change of Discipline Test (CDT). Graduates from other disciplines (e.g., B.A., B.Sc.) who wish to apply for M.Com must qualify the CDT with a minimum of 50% marks before appearing for GU-ART. The CDT is conducted prior to the GU-ART and tests basic commerce knowledge.
Ques. What is the seat intake for M.Com at GCQ, and how competitive is the admission?
Ans. GCQ has a sanctioned intake of 30 seats for M.Com, with reservations for SC (1), ST (4), OBC-NCL (8), PwD (2), Other University (2), Ex-Servicemen (0), Unreserved (10), and EWS (3). Given that M.Com is offered at multiple Goa University affiliated colleges and the total seats across all colleges are substantial, competition is moderate. However, GCQ being a government college with very low fees (approx. Rs. 15,795/year) makes it highly sought after, especially among students from South Goa.
Ques. Is the M.Com programme at GCQ available for working professionals or part-time students?
Ans. No. The M.Com programme at GCQ is strictly a full-time, regular programme designed for non-working students. Employed candidates can be admitted only if they produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer. The programme requires regular attendance, with a mandatory minimum of 75% attendance in each subject each semester to be eligible for Semester End Examinations. Students who fail to meet attendance requirements must re-seek admission in the subsequent academic year.
Ques. What career options are available after completing M.Com from GCQ?
Ans. M.Com graduates from GCQ typically pursue careers in teaching (eligible for B.Ed. Commerce via GU-ART), banking and financial services, accounting and auditing firms, government jobs (SSC, UPSC, Goa PSC), and further research (Ph.D. in Commerce). Many students also pursue professional certifications like CA, CMA, or CS alongside or after M.Com. The Goa government sector and local banking institutions are common employers for M.Com graduates from GCQ.
Ques. What is the refund policy if I get admission at GCQ but later decide to join another college?
Ans. Goa University follows a five-tier refund policy. If you withdraw 15 days or more before the formally notified last date of admission, you receive a 100% refund (minus a processing charge of 5% of fees paid, subject to a maximum of Rs. 1,000). Withdrawal less than 15 days before the last date gives 90% refund; within 15 days after the last date gives 80%; between 15-30 days after the last date gives 50%; and more than 30 days after the last date results in 0% refund. The Caution Deposit of Rs. 2,605 is always refunded in full regardless of when you withdraw.
