GCQ B.Sc CS FAQs
Ques. What subject combinations are available with Computer Science in B.Sc at GCQ?
Ans. At GCQ, Computer Science is offered under NEP 2020 as a Single Major (Honours in Computer Science) or as a Double Major in combination with Physics and Mathematics. In the first two semesters, students study two papers each from their chosen combination. From Semester V and VI, students specialise in one subject from their combination (six papers plus a project). The specific combination available to a student depends on seat availability and is subject to change during counselling.
Ques. Why are the fees for B.Sc Computer Science higher than other B.Sc programmes at GCQ?
Ans. B.Sc Computer Science has a higher fee structure compared to other B.Sc programmes at GCQ primarily because of the higher laboratory/practical fees (Rs. 2,600 vs Rs. 950 for other science programmes) and higher tuition fees (Rs. 3,000 vs Rs. 2,000). This reflects the cost of maintaining the computer laboratory, software licences, and internet infrastructure. Despite this, at Rs. 11,380 per year for GEN/OBC students, it remains significantly more affordable than private computer science programmes in Goa.
Ques. Can B.Sc Computer Science graduates from GCQ apply for MCA at Goa University?
Ans. Yes, B.Sc Computer Science graduates from GCQ are eligible to apply for MCA (Master of Computer Applications) at Goa University through the GU-ART. Goa University's MCA programme has an intake of 60 seats. Additionally, B.Sc CS graduates can apply for M.Sc Artificial Intelligence (25 seats) and M.Sc Data Science (20 seats) at Goa University. A common GU-ART is conducted for MCA, M.Sc AI, and M.Sc Data Science. Bridge courses are conducted for students who did not have Computer Science or Mathematics at the UG/12th level.
