Ans. I am a B.Tech Civil student at IIT Roorkee. Here’s a comparison between the two options- Parameters IIT Roorkee Civil IIT BHU Mechanical Average Package INR 18 LPA INR 21.95 LPA (around 80% students get placed) Top Recruiters on campus Larsen, Turbo, Tata, Sprinklr, Jio, L&T, Godrej, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Zepto, Google, Jaguar Land Rover. Amazon, American Express, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Google, ITC Ltd., Microsoft, Oracle, Paytm, etc. Research Facilities One of the best research facilities at the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Roorkee. Ample research opportunities and well-equipped laboratories. One important thing that my friends told me is that the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT BHU is one of the strictest departments in India. It makes the students question their own potential. The department professors are very strict and the coursework is extremely rigorous. The students are given assignments and projects which they have to complete within a day. I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee Civil as it offers the same facilities and placements as IIT BHU Mechanical. Moreover, the Civil department at IITR is not as strict as the Mechanical department at IIT BHU.Read more

Ans. Being one of the oldest and top IITs, IIT Roorkee boasts an excellent placement scenario with many top companies visiting the campus. This year too, the entire batch got placed in their 4th year. Some students even got 2-3 job offers. Many seniors were given PPOs while doing their internships. Nutanix offered job roles to many students. The highest international salary package stood at 1.3 CPA whereas the highest domestic salary package offered was 60 LPA. The lowest salary package offered ranged between 8 LPA - 9 LPA. A number of big firms made it to the placements like Microsoft Google Nutanix Adobe DE Shaw JP Morgan Goldman Sachs The most common role offered was that of an SDE. According to me, B.Tech (Electrical engineering) from IIT Roorkee is a better option due to the following reasons: B.Tech electrical engineering is a 4 year program while dual degree (electrical engineering) is a five year program. This means that choosing IIT Roorkee will help you enter the workforce earlier. The B.Tech curriculum focuses equally on theoretical and practical learning. This will prepare you for industry roles. On the other hand, the dual degree curriculum gives more importance to research and specialisation in electrical engineering. Here are the 2023 placement figures for IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP: Parameters IIT KGP (Phase-I) IIT Roorkee Highest Package INR 2.6 CPA INR 1.3 CPA (Highest International- INR 1.06 CPA) Top Recruiters (2024) OLA, OneByZero, SecPod, SIRION LABS, TCS Research, and others. American Express, Barclays, Chegg Inc, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Myntra, and more. Unfortunately, the branch-wise placements are not available for either of these IITs. Ans. IIT Roorkee Placements 2023 is still ongoing and hasn’t been concluded yet. The highest domestic CTC was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA while the highest domestic CTC was recorded at INR 1.06 CPA. Students revived more than 500 offers and around 63 recruiters visited the campus. IIT Roorkee does not release branch-wise placements but around 85% of the entire batch of every branch gets placed with preferred branches like CSE and ECE having a placement rate of around 98-100%. Coming to Mechanical, the highest CTC stood at INR 97 LPA while the average core package stood at INR 14 LPA. The lowest package offered by a non-core company was recorded at INR 17 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Amazon Google Goldman Sachs Microsoft Almost 60% of students got internships in this branch.Read more
