GBU B.A.L.L.B. FAQs

Ques. What is the structure and duration of the B.A.L.L.B. program at GBU, and how is it different from a regular LL.B. program?

Ans. The B.A.L.L.B. program at Gautam Buddha University is a 5-year integrated undergraduate course comprising 10 semesters. Unlike a regular 3-year LL.B. program that requires a bachelor's degree as a prerequisite, the B.A.L.L.B. combines liberal arts education with legal studies from the beginning. The first two years focus on foundational courses in humanities, social sciences, and basic legal concepts. The subsequent years progressively introduce specialized law courses including constitutional law, criminal law, corporate law, and international law. This integrated approach provides students with a broader educational foundation and develops critical thinking skills alongside legal expertise. The program is recognized by the Bar Council of India and prepares students for legal practice, judicial services, and further academic pursuits.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation mandatory for B.A.L.L.B. students at GBU, and what are the exemption criteria?

Ans. Yes, hostel accommodation is mandatory as GBU is a fully residential university. However, exemptions may be granted in specific circumstances including: married students (with marriage certificate), residents of Gautam Buddha Nagar district (with domicile/electricity bill/rent agreement), students with chronic ailments requiring ongoing therapy (with medical documents), and students engaged in curriculum-based projects or internships. Exemption applications must be submitted within 15 days of admission closing date. Once granted, exemptions for married and local students remain valid for the entire program duration, while medical exemptions are granted for the current academic session only. Hostel fees range from ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 per annum depending on room type, with additional mess charges of ₹40,000 per annum.

Ques. What practical training and internship opportunities are available during the B.A.L.L.B. program?

Ans. The B.A.L.L.B. program emphasizes experiential learning through multiple practical components. Students participate in moot court competitions where they argue hypothetical cases to develop advocacy skills. The university organizes the P.N. Mathur Memorial National Moot Court Competition annually, providing students with exposure to national-level legal competitions. Legal aid clinics allow students to work on real cases under faculty supervision, providing practical experience in legal practice. Internships with leading law firms, corporate legal departments, and government organizations are integral to the curriculum. These internships typically occur during summer breaks and provide students with hands-on experience in legal research, drafting, and client interaction. The program also encourages participation in legal seminars, workshops, and conferences to enhance professional development.

Ques. What are the career prospects after completing B.A.L.L.B. from GBU, and what do alumni typically pursue?

Ans. Graduates of the B.A.L.L.B. program from GBU pursue diverse career paths including legal practice as advocates, corporate law positions in multinational companies, government legal positions, and judicial services. Many alumni have secured positions in leading law firms such as TCS, Wipro, and other major corporations. The median salary for law school graduates was 400,000 in 2023-24, with some graduates earning significantly higher packages in corporate law positions. Graduates also pursue further studies including LL.M. programs, Ph.D. in law, and specialized certifications. The program provides strong preparation for judicial services examinations and civil services, with many alumni successfully clearing these competitive exams. Some graduates establish their own legal practices or work as legal consultants.

Ques. How competitive is the GBU-ET entrance test for B.A.L.L.B. admission, and what is the selection process?

Ans. The GBU-ET for B.A.L.L.B. is the sole criterion for admission to the program. The entrance test is designed to assess legal aptitude, reasoning ability, and general knowledge. With 120 seats available and typically thousands of applicants, the competition is moderate to high. The test comprises multiple-choice questions covering legal concepts, logical reasoning, and current affairs. Candidates are selected based on their performance in the entrance test, with merit-based ranking determining admission. The university also conducts interviews for shortlisted candidates to assess their motivation and suitability for the program. The selection process is transparent and merit-based, ensuring fair evaluation of all candidates. Candidates should prepare thoroughly by studying legal concepts, practicing reasoning questions, and staying updated with current affairs.

Ques. What is the Bar Council of India accreditation status of the B.A.L.L.B. program, and does it qualify graduates for legal practice?

Ans. The B.A.L.L.B. program at Gautam Buddha University is accredited by the Bar Council of India (BCI), which is the regulatory body for legal education in India. This accreditation ensures that the program meets national standards for legal education and that graduates are eligible to practice law in India. Upon completion of the program, graduates must pass the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) to obtain a license to practice as an advocate. The BCI accreditation also enables graduates to pursue further studies including LL.M. programs at other universities. The program curriculum is designed in compliance with BCI guidelines and includes all mandatory courses required for legal practice. Graduates from BCI-accredited programs like GBU's B.A.L.L.B. have the same legal standing as graduates from other accredited law schools in India.
