A comprehensive Experience at NLUD : Balancing Tradition with Innovation in legal Education

Student view on course curriculum and exams

The curriculum at NluD is regularly updated to include emerging fields like cyber law, environmental law and AI. It offers a mix of core subjects which is balanced and electives to make students choose and allowing them to specialize according to their interest. Practical learning is also there emphazised through moot courts, internships and research projects, Suggestion would be to move a little away from rot learning and more hands on experience the exams take place every 2 months and it can be difficult in the early years but as you continue to learn and adapt really well

Internship opportunity provided by the college

We have a RCC which provides internships in top law firms from 3rd year onwards based on ranks, the experience helps you to laern alot and help build a good legal career. This experience is provided to all irrespective of the positon one holds

Placement provided by the college and package being offered

Campus placements happen on day zero for the 5th year students, though few companies come to NLUD the packages offered are quite high CAM,SAM, TRILEGAL the highest law firms come and hire from here offering 15-17lpa the percentage is quite low

Yearly fees structure and scholarship

A national Law university, the fee structure for the 5 year program typically includes everything from tutitoin fees to library fees. In the first year the amount is around 2,80,000 which includes 2,20,000 for tuition, 10,000 for admission. Second year onwards the fees is sightly reduced to 2,45,000 with yearly increment of 5-10%. The people from category receive fee concessions, and offers various scholarships including merit-cum-means scholarships.

Campus Life, Events and various Facilities

The campus life is mostly studies and moot by day to day we have events that are multicultural and inclusive of all we even have sports fest within the campus and even go to different unis once year for sports fest there are many student run collectives and organization that one can join

Hostel facilities provided by the college

The Uni provides 3 sharing rooms upto 3rd years and 2 sharing afterwords, the room are quite spacious and basic amenities are provided by the uni and ample space per person. we have clean washrooms and drinking water there is AC in hostels and warm water during winters.

Student views on the faculty

At NLUD, the ratio is typically around 1:10 to 1:12, allowing for personalized attention and strong academic relationship. Some proffesors are really great such as Anup Surendernath and K.J. Sophy who are quite deeply well versed with their subject infact most of the faculty here is like this. though the examination is rigorous, which includes mid sem, projects and end sems in which you need a cumilative of 50 percent to pass that particular subject. The fail ratio is very less due to great academic help The curicullum coveres are the relevant areas of law and practical learning is also supported

Admission process and eligibility criteria

I applied to nalsar, nujs and even Nluj i got in all of them but chose to stick with NLUD as internships are heavily based here and more over the college was close to my home and NIRF2 ranking is quite attractive. You need to give AILET exam and passing and getting a good rank in the same helps you achieve and enter into this college the cuttoff depends form year to year

Night Life

there are no in and out timing in our campus, students are allowed to leave and come back at any time there is a gym in each hostel and sat and sun are also closed we have a cafetaria and one amul booth the campus is quite safe, cant say the same about dwarka

NLU Delhi: 9 Answered Questions

Are all the NLUs (National Law Universities) in India good? Or is it only the top tier NLUs (Banglore, Nalsar, Kolkata, Jodhpur) worth considering?

Sanchita NayakB.A. LLB. Law & Bachelor of Arts Degrees, National Law University, Mumbai (2020)

The tier-1 colleges are the best among the existing NLUs that include NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, and WBNUJS Kolkata. These colleges provide the best placement offers and internships. These colleges have expert faculty that can enhance your skills in the related fields along with the exposure of moot courts with universities like Harvard University, Yale University, and many others.

Now apart from tier-1 colleges, NLIU Bhopal, NLU Jodhpur, GNLU Gujarat are also good in terms of faculty, internships, and placement opportunities. NLU Delhi is a reputed college and has a locational advantage.

Among the new NLUs, NLU Mumbai is quite promising and maintains a consistently good record.

But other than the above-mentioned colleges, other NLUs are not that good and you will not have the exposure and internship opportunities.

What are some suggestions to crack the AILET for an LLB to get admission into NLU Delhi?

Harsh RanadeB.A.LL.B (Hons.) from National Law University,Delhi (2024)

AILET is a very unique exam among all law entrance tests with few characteristics. One of my cousins graduated from NLU Delhi. Let me share some things I got to know from her, which might be useful.

  • The average attempt time per question is the same as CLAT (36 sec), the scope for experimentation is quite less since the test is 90 min long.
  • Being a paper-based test, marking answers on OMR sheets can be time-consuming.
  • The upside is to flip pages and glance through multiple questions in one go. Use this to your benefit.
  • The LA section is mostly marked by the assertion-reasoning type of questions. This feature is not as regular in CLAT and AILET. So keep practicing.
  • Unlike CLAT math, AILET does not ask much. Most questions need a few steps of calculation to get to the answers. The selection of questions is important here.
  • AILET GK is generally based on your overall knowledge about current trends, your subject, etc.

These are some things I got to know from my friend on how to prepare for AILET for an LLB degree at NLU Delhi.

Why is NLU Delhi not a part of CLAT?

Divya Raturistudent at NLSIU Bangalore

There are 27 NLUs in India at present. Some of the top NLUs are- National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi), NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad and GNLU Gandhinagar.

NLU Delhi does not consider CLAT results for admissions. It conducts its own All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). 25 NLUs offer admissions based on CLAT results. NLU Meghalaya also does not conduct its admissions based on CLAT. Furthermore, NLU Delhi is not a part of the Consortium of NLUs.

Dr. Ranbir Singh, the founder of NLU Delhi, gave out a reason in 2012, stating that one of the reasons was that NLU Delhi would be CLAT's 13th Law School. Consequently, it would be the 13th pick when students filled out their choices. There are some financial and administrative concerns as well that have kept NLU Delhi from accepting CLAT results for admissions.

In addition to its useful search function and case notes, SCC Online is regarded as the most reliable source for SC judgements. Aside from cases, SCC Online coverage consists of articles from Practical Lawyers and SCC, reports from the Law Commission of India, articles from SCC, and selective judgements from the Indian State High Courts.

Why does NLU Delhi not have an LLB program?

Shruti GoelStudent At NLU Delhi

I am a 2nd year BA LLB (Hons) student at NLU Delhi. NLU Delhi doesn’t offer a 3-year LLB program because of the following reasons:

  • Most of the top National Law Universities (NLUs) in India offer a 5-year integrated BA LLB instead of a separate LLB program.
  • The benchmark for legal education in India is a five-year integrated law curriculum, according to the criteria established by the Bar Council of India.
  • The goal of the five-year BA LLB program is to offer a thorough legal knowledge that integrates legal theory and practice. The last few semesters focus on seminar courses.
  • Law firms, corporate legal departments, and other organisations frequently give preference to graduates of five-year integrated programs since it indicates a deeper legal education than a three-year LLB program.

Even though NLU Delhi does not offer an LLB program, here are some of the top NLUs that provide this degree- NLSIU Bangalore and NLU Odisha.

You can opt for either of these colleges with a good CLAT score.
