Course Curriculum Overview

3

I had chosen this course because of the Media and the lab facility, and my desire to understand the entire course in journalism and mass communication. The course that I took gave a bit more theoretical aspects rather than the practical ones. The practical ones were a bit less compared to theory ones. The areas I would suggest for improvement would be to encourage more assignments and provide more internship facilities to the students. The frequency of the exams for me was okay, and it was moderate, not difficult.

Fees and Financial Aid

I paid the year-wise amount, and it cost around 24,000 rupees. The tuition fees cost approximately 11000 rupees, and the stationery fees. There was no such thing as the cautioned fees mentioned. The registration fees for every semester cost around 480 rupees. The admission fees for every semester were 12000 rupees. When discussing the lab fees, it costs around 8000 rupees, which would further add to the tuition fees. It was different for SC and the ST students, while the fees were lowered to a certain level for them. The fees of the batchmates are lower than mine appro 180, but I don't remember it frankly. The available scholarship was the Swami vivekananda merit cum means scholarship for students whose families earn less than 3 lakh. It was available to all the students regardless of their race, caste, creed or gender. Kanyashree was also available to all the girls of the college.

Campus Life

4

The overall experience of campus life was okay and not that great. I am not a Bengali, so it was a bit tough for me to socialise here and make a group of friends. The books were accessible in the library, but with the help of a library card, which also cost around 50 rupees. Students were given digital notes, so we were allowed to access our phones to read the notes in our classroom. Sports were highly encouraged for both girls and boys. Everyone was allowed to participate in the sports. There were no such student groups being formed up to my knowledge.

Admission

I wanted to take journalism and Mass Communication, and that too in Kolkata. I came to know that by word of mouth, this is one of the best colleges in Kolkata for Mass Communication, with around six professors for a single course. I got rejected from Jadavpur College as I received around 92.25 percent which did not meet the merit cut-off level of the college. The admission process relies on the application via the official online website, and it can be based on the last percentage gathered by the candidate. There is no entrance exam based on this course, as far as my knowledge is concerned. The admission experience was smooth.

Faculty

4

The faculty members of the college are very helpful to the students. They help in overcoming any problems faced by a student in order to take advantage of the facilities provided by a college. The facilities that I like the most was encouargement of the seminars and competition for the students that helped them to know their further capabilities. The best facilities are the library of the college, which is endowed with a lot of books. The facilities that I don't like were the lab facilities, which were limited to a particular number of students. The lab was a small room, and all the computers did not function in a proper manner. The exams are based on a semester mode. Two semesters were conducted in a year for students in a three-year course. They were moderate ones.

Night Life

4

The college abounds with a library and a cafeteria, which can be accessed by all the students. Except for the library, one needs to have a card to get access to the books. Hostels and PG were available for the college goers nearby. The campus timings included 11:00 A.M to 5. P.M. One can visit the park located just outside the college. The locality might be safe at night, with the police patrols roaming and safeguarding the place at night.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I feel the theory part of our curriculum isn't much relevant or prepares for real - world applications, only some basic information is what I feel is necessary, although the lab and the practical part prepares us for real - world applications and teaches us a lot of things related to photography, news paper page building, survey report, etc. I believe they should have a better approach and teach more relevant real - world or in demand market skills which'll help the students in the future. Exams are conducted 2 times in a year, once between March - april, and second time between August - September.

Course Curriculum Overview:

From my childhood, I'm into music and this course allows me to further widen my knowledge of the entertainment industry, films, Television and etc. So this course will allow me to understand how media and journalism world works, and help me pursue the art that I love. The timings could be better of the college, but rather than that everything is mostly good. The frequency in my opinion, should be reduced to 3 main semester exams, and to have small mid semester exams throughout. That's my perspective.

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. I opted for this course because I thought it would have a good practical work, with good exposure and experience. But this course has nothing as such. The documentary we did was done all by ourselves. College did not help at all. There was a photo journalsm option in one paper but our college did not let us study that. They did not teach anything about photography, no practical training was given. 2. None. The curriculum doesn't prepare us for the real world at all. There is no professional study or activities. No preparation for interviews or real world jobs. Only theoretical and advices from our faculty. College doesn't provide any activity that can help us for the real world job. 3. More and more practical work with the help of college. More exposure needed. High quality software and equipments are needed. Students need a GOOD professional lab. More exciting activities for students. Placement opportunities, internships etc. 4. BAD. Per sem arrives in 2.5 months, too short time

Course Curriculum Overview:

Journalism is one of my favorite sudject . One of the reasons for choosing this subject is that only a journalist can highlight the good and bad aspects of our society before the people. The scope of the subject is journalism but it is huge. We can learn not only journalism but also photography, radio, film studies etc. The behaviors of all the professors in the journalism department in this college is very well. They very carefully explain all the topics thoroughly to the students so that the students do not have to face any difficulty with those topics later. Every year two semesters are taken every six months if the students do all the classes carefully and study well then they can easily pass by getting good marks
