Course Curriculum Overview

2

Most of the professors are good here. The college covers the core subjects required for strong foundation in engineering. However the theoretical coverage is good the scope for practical exposure is still required.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fees per semester is around 8k and it varies every semester but it is under 8k excluding the hostel admission fees which we have to pay every year which is also around 8k so for the hostellers the fees is 16k in odd semester and 8k in even semester

Campus Life

2

My overall experience with campus life at Jorhat Institute of science and technology has been balanced and realistic. The campus environment is calm and academically focused with students who have fewer distractions and more time to work on their studies and personal goals. Socially campus life is simple, but active in its own way. Students mainly bond through classrooms, hostsels, common hangout spots, during college events, while the social scene is not as vibrant as that of Metropolitan colleges. JIST has several student clubs and societies related to cultural activities, technical interest and sports. This clubs provide opportunities to participate in events, develop leadership skills and work as a team. However, the level of activity depend upon student initiative, clubs become more engaging when students actively contribute rather than relying entirely on the administration. The infrastructure here is decent and functional. Academic buildings, classroom laboratories and the library meet basic requirement for engineering education. Labs are adequate for coursework. Overall campus life at JIST is more substance oriented. It may not offer luxury infrastructure or a glamorous college experience, but it provides a stable environment where students can focus on academics, build meaningful connections and grow on their own effort. How much student benefits from a campus life here largely depends on how actively they choose to participate.

Admission

I chose JIST because of its balance between affordability, academic structure and accessibility compare to many private engineering colleges JIST offers a government aided set up with lower fee which was an important factor for me at the same time. It provides a stable academic environment with focused engineering curriculum, other reason was location JIST is situated in Jorhat, which is relatively well-connected and has a calm academic atmosphere compared to colleges in bigger cities. It has fewer distractions and allow students to focus more on studies. The faculty availability and small batch size also made the learning environment field, more approachable than some other colleges I considered.

Faculty

3

There are almost around 50 students in every class. Most of the faculties are good. There are 2 internal test in every semester and the end term examination which includes practicals and internship report presentation

Night Life

2

Night life around JIST is calm and limited with no party or clubbing culture. The environment is quite and discipline and more students unwind in simple ways after classes. Inside the campus, facilities operate on fixed timings, academic buildings and classrooms close in the evenings. The library usually shuts by night hours and the cafeteria does not run late at night. The gym also has limited timings and closes by evening public areas inside the campus room and open for casual walk are sitting, but there are no organised night time activities. Hostel becomes the main social space after dark. Hostels have strict in timings, campus gate, close at night and students movement is regulated. Evenings are typically spent talking with friends studying together or relaxing in hostel rooms outside the campus. Students usually visit Jorhat town during the evening, common hangout spots, local cafes, tea, stall, Street, food joints, and small restaurants around areas like Gar Ali and Chowk Bazaar.

Placement Experience:

The placements are really good here top companies visit every year offer lot of packages. The placements generally starts from 7th semester and continue till end of 8th semester. Mainly the highest package is offered by tech companies and last year it was about 52 LPA. The average package is about 14LPA for Electronics and Instrumentation branch. And 52 LPA is highest. Almost 85-90% students get placed.

Placement Experience:

The college placement aren't much in our college because our college is too deep inside the area it's like a village area companies find it difficult to come here. Companies mostly come for chemical and mechanical engineering students to hire them. For electrical and civil you have to apply off campus. I don't know the highest package from our college but the recent package that was offered by mahindra to mechanical engineering students was 19000 per month. Atleast 35% students get on campus placement. My plan after degree is to pursue mtech or maybe BFA in Seoul, South Korea or maybe find a job outside india

Remarks:

The entire administration of the college is very careless. They don't seem to bother about the students at all. But they always put a bar on the attendence criteria. Each and every student need to have atleast 75% attendence in each subject. Otherwise penalty is imposed on them. Ironically classes are not conducted on a regular basis.
