Course Curriculum Overview

1

The courses are still outdated and much theoretical that practical implimentations for an engineer. But they are adding new technology courses like Ai/ML and data science to improvise the curriculum. Also adding value courses to provide student ethical learnings. There is also facility of minor courses . Where you can avail the access off other course other than what you've opted.but acc to seniors minor courses are not that much benifitial but just increase the academic pressure.

Placement Experience

5

I am a first year so don't know much about placements an internships. Avegmrage package is - 10-12 lakhs Median package - 8-9 lakhs Highest domestic package - 52 lakhs Highest international package - 1.2 crore The average placement percentage of all branches are more than 90 always. Even some branches like mining and ceramic have 100% placements. After the 6th semester students are eligible for campus placements and after 4th sem students are eligible for internships. I have just gave the fivestar but I am a first year student remember.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fee structure is (in rupees) Admission fees is total - 12500 Hostel fees - 5000 Mess fees - 30000 Establishment/Activity fees - 5000 Medical fees - 3000 Tution fees - 62500 In the final semester there's a convocation fees of 9000 extra This above structure is applied for all semesters (2 sems in a year) . Admission fees is only for first sem. Acc to category , For student having net income below one lakh the tution fees is dropped . For EWS and OBC have to pay 2/3 of the tution fees. For SC and ST 1/3 of the tution fees.below one lakh income is valid in all category. There's no scholarship from the institution itself but you will be informed by the ICS (Institute Counsiling services) time to time regarding any benifitial scholarship.

Campus Life

4

There are total of 6 fests along with the annual sports fest . Innovision - tech fest of NITR (held in November) Cosmopolitan - ethinic fest of NITR (held in October ) Nitrutsav - Cultural fest of NITR ( held in January) Celebrity night - India's most afmed singers are invited to perform (held in March) Vridhi - sports fest of NITR ( held in January) NES - Entrepreneurship summit of NITR (held in February) NITR has the second largest engineering library In all over Asia . For engineering students this library is like a treasure. Also different type of self help , fiction , literature and business books are available. But it's not well collected as engineering books. Every classroom has samart board facility and also has network jammers to avoid use of phone. Projectors and speakers are loud enough .But there is little bit problem of Central AC service. Every lab has sufficient equipments according to the need . Every computer and technical labs have well maintained with safetyprocedures and power supply. The college has very well sports facilities. No need to worry . Just a little problem of cricket ground and football ground shortage. Except ground the equipments are not provided by the college , you have to avail thm yourself.onky for TT you will be provided with the rackets. There are every type of club you want and those are too engaging that you feel difficult to manage those more over the academic pressure. You can have glimpse of them by just searching on YT "all clubs of NITR"

Hostel Facilities

4

In room tou are provided with two beds on table with a drawer attached, a fan , a shelf of 4 blocks and also some additional space for your bagpacks and clothes. Also you get a lan port for internet access.( speed is too good) For the cleaning of room once in a week workers come and clean it. You get washing machine for the clothes ( one for 64 students) The bathrooms and toilets are cleaned regularly and also there's the geasire fascility. You can have cooler in your room or can but table fan. The hostel food is totally different from the traditional rumours. The items given according to the menu may lack some quantity satisfaction but always live upto the quality compared to other colleges. The quality degrades with passing time but still adjustable. .for menu you can check on YouTube, always keep changing. You are alloted to the hostel as soon aa your physical reporting completed. All first years reside in a single hostel known as VS hall. And hostel fees according to the facilities is very cheap.

Admission

I haven't applied to any other colleges as this was the nearest from my home and also the best in Odisha in aspect of engineering ( I said best in the sense that it's most affordable for engineering with good placement status and industrial exposure. There may be other colleges in Odisha with higher NIRF ranking ) The process for admission is simple. You have to appear JEE mains examination (you can see the details of examination on YouTube) Then have to secure a rank below 50000 to get into a good branch. Then you have to pay a total of 74000 irrespective of category before physical admission in college. Then you will get your seat allotment letter for the college , then you will be admitted to college and the physical admission process will be smooth I assure.

Faculty

3

In first year every student irrespective of the branch taught the same type of courses . In first year you have arround 8 courses each semester 5-6 theories and 2-3 labs. With promoting to next sems the course load reduces. Each course is give a credit number which decides the toughness , length and importance of the course , for example a 3 credit course is more lengthy , tough and requires more number of classes than a 2 credit course. In most of the courses it's easy to get marks by just solving the previous year questions . But in some courses it's difficult to to get marks easily as faculties are too chad in making the questions. But I assure you that as a ranker in JEE you can handle this academic load easily. In a semester you have two exams . One is done after the half syllabus completion known as midsem(30 marks) and another is final exam endsem (50 marks) rest 20 marks out of hundred is given by the course teacher according to the student's class performance ( most of time to save time they take a class test of 20 to avoid all mess). Additionally irrespective of syllabus always follow what the teacher has taught in class (expect engeneering mechanics and Basic electrical engineering) The CGPA system is simple CGPA = [sumession of (subject grade × credit of the subject ) ] / sumession of all credits of each subject. Grade system 40-50 - P 50-60 - D 60-70 - C 70-80 - B 80-90 - A 90-100 - Ex Also the attendence is very strict. More than 6 absenta in a single course will less you a grade in that subject.

Night Life

5

In night it's thrillful to ride a bicycle in a 650 accre campus. Every hostel and also chowks have availability of snacks and cafeteria. The food taste is always good in every cafeteria but the quantity and price always break heart. Gyms are quite good . Also the central gym has every facility you need to build a good physique. But the gyms are not quite good of other hostel except the VS hall ( hostel of first years) Library and other reading room timings are till 9 pm and during exams upto 12 midnight. For first year there is timing boundries strict but after the first year you can go anywhere anytime with anybody no restrictions. In Rourkela locality is safe to roam anytime in night. Inside college STS , DTS , DP , hexagon , Backpost are good hangout places and outside college neheru park , IG park , Hanuman baatika , Hill top , Vedavyas are good hangout places.

Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University - [SOA], Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.

Gandhi Engineering College (GEC Autonomous), Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Dec 22, 2025(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.
