Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum is more condensed that other colleges', so it makes it easier to tackle multiple things at once. The course prepares us for real world applications through their dual internship program, which is a strong point in their curriculum. If the course in itself had more real world applications, instead of very superficial ideas, it would be more helpful The exams are a hurdle, but it comes with the rigor of the course, and it is something students end up adapting to over the course of 5 years.

Internships Opportunities

5

Internships can be taken under any architectural practice , and the stipend ranges from 5000-9000/- After the internship period, students are required to present a portfolio showing the work that was done by them in the firm, which includes working drawings, 3d renders, fabrication drawings and other drawings that contribute to the construction of the project.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have paid 275000/- per year for this course. Students can avail merit based scholarships, as per your 12th pass percentage for PCM, or if you have a good NATA score. There is no other additional fees to be paid here. For hostel, the yearly fees is 110000/- including a 20000/- security deposit.

Campus Life

4

The fest held in our college is Ekayana, which is a fest that holds workshops, panel discussions, and exhibitions, and more. The library has all the references one would need for this course, and is very accessible. Sports and extracurricular activities are held in the campus, and is generally looked after by the student council . Certain clubs are formed at the start of each semester, considering student interest, and helps in harboring a sense of responsibility and inclusiveness in students.

Hostel Facilities

4

The college hostel provides double sharing rooms, with a study table and cupboard each. There is an attached washroom in each room. The meal quality is a 5/10. They serve non veg items 2 times a week, and students can request for additional items through an online ordering system. The registration process is pretty smooth and there were no hiccups. After 3 years , I decided to stay in a rented room as I wanted to live on my own. It is in Mangalore city, and commute is not an issue as there is a college bus from the city to the campus.

Admission

I had applied to MSAP, BMS school of architecture and RV school of architecture. I chose NITTE because they were quick to get back to me, and also due to personal reasons as the admission time was during the COVID outbreak. I did not get rejected from other colleges, they just got back to my admission request a bit late. The admission process was very smooth. I had to submit documents of my SSLC, 12th CBSE marks card, income certificate, caste certificate The exam that one needs to clear for this course is NATA , and one needs at least 50% to qualify

Faculty

3

The faculty to student ratio is quite reasonable, as there is only one class per batch. All of the faculty members are approachable but all do not give the insight we seek. There are sessionals that are conducted throughout the semester, but they can be cleared easily if the student is up to date with their work. There is one semester end examination, which is the final exam, and as per our syllabus, there was only one written exam and the rest were practical, all of which can be cleared easily. Students do fail to clear the exam but the percentage is minimal, due to either attendance issues or when they fail to meet the standards of the end jury.

Night Life

4

The campus in which the college is situated in does not have a lot of facilities. There is a basketball court, a cafeteria, the college blocks and the hostel blocks. However, the neighboring campus, KSHEMA campus has a gymnasium and a much more bigger , better campus life. Students can avail facilities in that campus as well. The girls hostel is in the Panir campus (where the architecture block is) and the boys hostel is in the KSHEMA campus The hostel closes at around 9pm The Deralakatte city is relatively safe , as there are many campuses in the vicinity.

Admission:

The admission procedure is not tedious. After plus 2 and appearing for JEE 2 or NATA exams, candidates have to apply with that scores. After screening they will be called for interview. For validation purposes, all the original certificates will be scrutinized.

This is a very good College in terms of education and co-curricular activities. The events hosted in the College and the workshops are almost always paid for so it is hard if you don't have pocket money with you always.

Admission:

I applied to the college based on my score in the National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA). I also appeared in the JEE Main paper 2. However, the NATA score been good then JEE Main paper 2 so I said for the NATA counselling. I was allotted a seat in the institute in spot counselling. After the grant of the admission I was called to the campus to complete the procedural formalities for admission. I opted for the institute because it is one of the top institute for architecture studies in Mysore.

Remarks:

The Architectural education scene is still a work in progress, and the quality changes dramatically in a short period of time and hence the relevancy of my remarks here are questionable., Management has changed recently, the University of Mysore has taken over, and it brings bigger resources, better integration with other university facilities and it's government-like administration with it's pros and cons. It would be wise to personally visit the facilty.
