Remarks

The Architectural education scene is still a work in progress, and the quality changes dramatically in a short period of time and hence the relevancy of my remarks here are questionable., Management has changed recently, the University of Mysore has taken over, and it brings bigger resources, better integration with other university facilities and it's government-like administration with it's pros and cons. It would be wise to personally visit the facilty.

Entrance Preview

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a mandatory exam that needs to be taken, the administration adds the NATA score to the student's 12th board exam marks to create a merit list. I scored 101 in Nata score, the minimum being 80, I chose this career because it demands and develops a blend of skills and talents that I wanted to see myself excel in, such as critical thinking, creating innovative ideas and conveying ideas (through drawings in this case). The admission process involves submitting these scores and the application forms within the deadlines and it is straight forward from there if you get selected.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course curriculum was plainly outdated and uninspiring in the light of university education abroad and newer colleges but locally this college seems to be at par with it's competitors. On the flipside it encourages the student to be self motivated.

Internships Opportunities

Internships in an Architecture college is a slightly unorthodox arrangement, but my college handled it exceptionally by mediating between the students and the firms and establishing links between us. The stipend entirely depends on the firm and the kind of work they specialize in, it can vary from 'unpaid' to 10,000 per month.

Placement Experience

3.5

There is no system of placement at present, but such is the Architecture Industry, it's less of an industry and more a professional service. So, the college assists in Job finding by the means of networking opportunities it provides by bringing guest lecturers and holding workshops throughout the course.

College Events

2.5

In the order of occurrence, Fresher's day a show hosted by the fresher batch Fun week, Themed costume days with contests and games, Sports cups, Cricket, Basketball, Kho-KhoEthnic day, Onam, Costumes and dances, Graduation day, Typical.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is different for students from Karnataka from students outside of karnataka, It is revised every semester and it is relatively expensive. I paid around 50000 per semester, now the first semester is around 1.5 lakhs and it reduces from then on.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers no scholarships or loans that I know of, The university of mysore, however may have certain exemptions and provisions.

Campus Life

2.5

The gender ratio is skewed with a female majority of 60/40 atleast. I encountered no instances of intolerance against any religion race or opinion. Workshops are conducted often by the college, and four teams are established in the college for contests and sports. There are various clubs like music club, sports club and book club but they are not active throughout the semester and are very informal.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

I have not personally stayed in the hostels, but from what i hear, hostel accommodations are easily available and are in the range of 2500 - 5000 per month. Popular one's are Chola's and Sangeeta's located near JC college of engineering the rates do not include food in Chola's it is a twin sharing room with an attached bathroom.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni association has been formally created in the year 2015, hence, it is still in it's infancy and lacks any history. The senior-junior dynamic is completely relative to the individual's characteristics.

Exam Structure

The marking is in a 60:40 ratio with respect to Internal external, and Internal marks were given in the form of assignments, submissions and tests depending on the subject so, the workload is evenly spreadout the studio project has a presentation-like exams called 'Juries'. External marks are obtained by attending end-of-the term written exams.

Admission:

The admission procedure is not tedious. After plus 2 and appearing for JEE 2 or NATA exams, candidates have to apply with that scores. After screening they will be called for interview. For validation purposes, all the original certificates will be scrutinized.

Admission:

I applied to the college based on my score in the National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA). I also appeared in the JEE Main paper 2. However, the NATA score been good then JEE Main paper 2 so I said for the NATA counselling. I was allotted a seat in the institute in spot counselling. After the grant of the admission I was called to the campus to complete the procedural formalities for admission. I opted for the institute because it is one of the top institute for architecture studies in Mysore.
