Course Curriculum Overview

4

For IT, everyday there is something new. So for me, the syllabus is pretty outdated but for my juniors, they have NEP so their syllabus is relatively new and up-to-date. But whatever is taught whether to us or them is relevant at best.

Internships Opportunities

4

Lots of them are there. You have to ask the faculties because I am sort of a newcomer there. There are lots of companies holding workshops and promotional programs so there are a lot of opportunities.

Placement Experience

4

I have no clue but the highest placements are in Computer and IT branches. Civil has probably the least placement. The quality is good thanks to IIT and NIT being in the same campus thus the big companies that come to those colleges also come to our colleges but they prefer those students more because NIT and IIT are more prestigious colleges.

Fees and Financial Aid

For General Category, the fees are 46,000 per semester. Category wise fees are distributed. Moreover, General Category students can show their income certificate and/or EWS certificate to get a seat as well as reduced fees. Hostel charges 19000 including mess for boys. Exam registration fees are separate and vary. Also, revaluation of semester papers costs 650/- per paper.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is amazing. Goans are the best people and there are a lot of places to chill within as well as outside the campus. Being located in the centre of Goa it is easy for all the people to travel there. Lots of clubs are there. Sports facilities are pathetic, though.

Admission

I don't need to answer this in detail, simple answer is that it is the only Government Engineering College in Goa. There is NIT and IIT, both in same campus as my college along with ITI. I didn't get admission into IIT and NIT and ITI who even wants to go so I took admission into GEC. That too I wanted Computer Engineering but didn't get it due to my rank thus I opted for IT because the syllabus is more or less the same for both the branches and just the order of subjects is different. What we have now, they'll have later on in the future semesters and vice versa.

Faculty

4

Most of the faculties are good and friendly, so that is a good thing. I cannot disclose the names of faculties here but there are some who don't know anything and have paid their way into the college.

Night Life

4

The canteen is closed at 6. There are restaurants around so you can get food but you have to be in the hostel before the gate closes. 8:30 is the timing when the hostelite curfew starts for boys as well as girls. Any food ordered, etc. is to be ordered before that, and students have to go to the gate to receive it.

Placement Experience:

Campus placement is okay okay but not that great . Mech and civil don't have that much package avg of around 6 lakh and i guess only 10-11 got placed .. and 16-17 was eligibile for it. For eligible to placement you don't have any backlog in any subject and some minimum cgpa required too

Admission:

Got selected for councils via the AIEEE exams in 2011. With the home quota applicable got admission in the 4th or 5th round. Though my father have been working and related to field of Electrical. it wasn’t a dilemma for me to choose Electrical Engineering for my graduation. The admission process were quite simple being an government institute, all they asked for the basic documents in orignal and some amount via DD for the seat confirmation.

Remarks:

Campus life was fun. Probably the most I remember from college days is the on campus life. How students sat in the center foyer and gossiped about life, faculties, exams, girls and stuff like that is the most cherished memory from college. Gender ratio was around 60% boys and 40% girls.
