Course Curriculum Overview

5

The BA Economics curriculum at MG University offers a strong foundation in economic theory combined with practical aspects such as statistics and econometrics, which are essential for real-world analysis. The inclusion of elective subjects and interdisciplinary topics allows for a broader understanding and flexibility to explore areas of interest. Its focus on contemporary economic issues, like globalization and environmental economics, made the course relevant and appealing. The course integrates theoretical concepts with practical tools like data analysis and case studies, which are essential for real-world problem-solving. Subjects like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Development Economics provide a base for understanding real-world policies and market dynamics. The exams are typically held at the end of the semester, which allows sufficient time for learning. However, continuous assessment methods (like weekly quizzes or assignments) could help in retaining concepts better. The difficulty level is moderate, but some questions tend to focus heavily on theoretical memorization rather than practical application. Including more analytical and case-based questions would enhance critical thinking and application skills.

Fees and Financial Aid

The exam fee is 900 and my college doesn't has any kind of semester fees . Before taking admission they took 13000 as University admission. Addressing the fee structure: No additional fees are charged as I study in aided college. Every semester exams charge some fees around 300 per subject after 1st semester so we have around 6 subjects so 300x6 = 2400 the exam fee will be from the 2nd semester . Our college is giving scholarship for OBC , sc ,st category through Kerala government egrance scheme . Those whose parents annual income is less than rupees one lakh can apply for egrance which is a kind of scholarship students can acquire after their four years honours course. We don't have any kind of lab for economics and I have no idea about students who are doing bsc in my college , how much they pay lab fees . There is certain amount approximately between 500 rupees to 800 rupees . Important mention : Our college has BBA department and that course is self financed . So their semester fees is 13000 and their exam fees is 900 . The department consists interaction sessions with companies in Kerala for business awareness and charge nothing for the seminar but charges to take a part in internship . The BBA department got German language department along . The German department doesn't charge the students of bba as it's included in their semester fee . But The German department offered Opportunity to the aided course students to join the German learning session as additional but they offered the scheme and also mentioned that aided course students have to pay for the class. The German course in our college also provides credits so that's a valuable course I found . Our university has launched MULTI DISCIPLINARY COURSE only for students who are pursuing aided course and this multi disciplinary course doesn't charge any kind of fee.

Campus Life

Life at MG University is a blend of academic rigor and vibrant social engagement. The university encourages a balanced approach to learning, offering opportunities to participate in cultural, technical, and extracurricular activities. The diverse student community fosters an inclusive and engaging environment. MGU Youth Festival: A major cultural extravaganza held in February or March, featuring inter-collegiate competitions in music, dance, theater, and art. Innovation & Entrepreneurship Summit: A technical and business-oriented event held in July, focusing on startups and innovation. The introduction of smart classrooms with audio-visual aids has enhanced the teaching process. Laboratories and computer rooms provide hands-on learning experiences, though some affiliated colleges might benefit from infrastructure upgrades.

Admission

No I haven't applied to any other college because this college was my first preference . Candidates must have completed their Higher Secondary Examination (Class 12) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board. A minimum aggregate score of 45–50% in qualifying examinations, depending on the category and college, is generally required. Specific emphasis is given to performance in subjects like Economics, Mathematics, or related streams in Class 12. Admissions are generally based on merit in Class 12 scores. Some colleges under MG University may conduct aptitude tests or follow centralized allotment processes (CAP) for seat allocation. Since the university primarily uses Class 12 scores, no additional entrance exam is commonly required. However, students with strong scores in mathematics and economics subjects typically have an advantage Cutoffs vary by college affiliated with MG University and the number of applicants in a given year. Prestigious colleges under MG University may have cutoffs as high as 85% or more, while other institutions might accept students with scores around 60–70%. The Centralized Admission Process (CAP) ensures transparency and fairness. Students submit their applications online, rank their preferred colleges, and are allotted seats based on merit and availability. The process is straightforward, with clear instructions on document submission, fee payment, and deadlines. Students generally find the system efficient, though some report challenges like competition for top colleges and delays in allotment results.

Faculty

Faculty has a friendly approach with students. Our HOD isn't rude and strict she's like a parent it doesn't mean spoon feeding. The economics department is the friendliest I can say . They are too good to approach as they understand things easily. The language department is little slow in teaching but not so rude in teaching. Exams are easy and there 2 semester in one year . The course makes us understand the concept easily.

Night Life

4

Gym: If available, gyms typically close by 8 PM, allowing students to work out after classes. Cafeterias: Most cafeterias close by 6:30–7 PM, though some affiliated colleges may have small snack counters open later. Library: The MGU Central Library and college libraries usually close by 5:30–6 PM, limiting late-night study options. Public Areas: Common areas like gardens or recreation halls close by 8 PM. Late-Night Discussions: Many students engage in late-night discussions in hostel rooms, focusing on academics or casual banter. Online Gaming or Movies: Gaming and watching movies together are common ways to relax. Study Groups: Some students form night study groups to prepare for exams. The combination of casual hangouts, group activities, and a safe environment creates a balanced student life. While nightlife may not be as bustling as in urban areas, the laid-back and community-focused setting helps foster strong friendships and a sense of belonging.
