What Students Say

Likes

The course structure and teaching style. The faculty and facility
The culture and support for different religions.
The commonness and food as I am close to west bengal.

Dislikes

The hostel room size and bathroom facilities
The pressure and stress especially for a non-math student.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is quite good especially after the new NEP rule that is made compulsory for every institute. The new style of credit division and introduction of new labs are quite interesting. The teaching style and course implementation is also appreciable.

Class Size: 274Course Fees: INR 98992 per year

Fees and Financial Aid

Hostel charges 7532 rupees per semester Semester fees = 41964 rupees Admission fees = 40414 rupees Lab and computer facility = 500 rupees Examination fee = 350 rupees Student welfare and recreation = 500

Campus Life

4.5

The annual festivals are independence day and republic day where we also take part in cultural activities and try to celebrate our indifferences. The Ganesh puja, Durga Puja, onam, Pongal, utkal diwas and various other religions festivals are celebrated in campus. We have badminton, cricket, tennis, etc too

Admission

I applied to all other iisers and niser as well. As niser was close to my home i wanted to go there. However couldnot clear the initial cut off criteria. They tried to communicate during their spot registration however it was too late and I was already in iiser kolkata.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is quite high especially for chemistry where as low for biology. Subhojit Bandhopadhay, Prashant kumar Sanyal, Devanshu chowdary and Mohit prasad are some of the professors I liked. There are mid sems and end sems and class tests. The end sems can be quite tricky otherwise other exams are good

Other Applied Colleges

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research - [IISER] | Bachelor of Science [BS] + Master of Science [MS] (Physics)

Could not clear the cut off criteria

IIT Kharagpur doesn't discriminate among girls and boys. all the rules and regulations are same for both the gender.
Campus has a very beautiful night life you can roam inside the campus with your friends on a cycle and explore campus beauty
IIT Kharagpur has a very good infrastructure it has 2100 acre campus and provides facilities like a central library which operates 8am to 12pm.

Dislikes

poor connectivity form the city like if you want to catch a flight you have to go to kolkata that is around 110 km from campus.
Being the oldest iit some buildings are very old and need maintenance hostel rooms feels very old and boring.
some times people feels very loaded academics and i feel that pressure is quit higher here

Placement Experience:

For placement and internship we have CCD ( Career development center ) and it ensure that students are getting all the opportunities for interview with top companies like Microsoft, google, Goldman Sache amazon and so on. students can apply for internship in 5th semester and can sit for placement in their 8th semester, other than campus placement students can apply anywhere for off campus placement if they are meeting thier crieteria.

Good sports facilities for tennis badminton table tennis etc.
A lot of shops for buying books food etc.

Dislikes

Mess food is hit or miss some hostel hv very bad food
Campus so huge that cycling will make u tired .
Professor are great acc to wht I got but some say not all that gud

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose my course that chemistry because of the fact that I had got the rank that came under it and another reason is chemistry department is quite old here even if kanpur chemistry department is better for core, you will get chance for non core too here. Courses now deal more on chemistry related stuff. No need for course improvement Frequency is near end and mid sem there will be exams mode

Life at IIT KGP

Likes

The campus is complete in itself. Although it is in a small town Kharagpur, we have everything available inside the campus.
The campus is lush green with very positive energy.
Campus has all the facilities for all kind of activities. We have two big auditorium, a running track, a big swimming pool and may other things to pursue your habits

Dislikes

The girl to boy ratio is very very poor.
The campus is very competitive and demands your constant efforts. If you don't perform as per the requirement, you might get stressed.
The campus is in outskirts and we don't have immediate access to the city. Although we can go to kolkata but it is still far.

Placement Experience:

The placement is good in IIT KGP in comparison to other colleges. People are eligible to sit for placements in their fourth year can sit for placements through CDC. The placements are held in two phases. In session 24-25, we have seen 1000+ offers to students in first phase. After getting degree, I would also go for doing job.

Computer centre is always open 24/7 . You can go there and study on your desktop freely.

Dislikes

Some of professors are not good . Like i was in physics department and i really didn't like some professors because of there attitude and lack of sincerity.
Hostel management is not quite good. Lack of washing machine and improperly managed
Food in the mess. Mess food is not so special there. It is below normal

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum are different for different departments students. Like i was in physics department,, they give assignment, quizes and and midsem and endsem and the marks their varry depending on the course teacher decision. I selected physical science and i am quite satisfied with my course selection as the lab experience was very good. Teacher take 2 or 3 teaching assistant to help the students in the classroom, Teaching assistant are actually seniors and they help students in very friendly way.

IISER Kolkata review by student

I was a NEET aspirant but couldn't make it their due to high cutoff and latest year scam. I decided to choose BAMS college but got a good rank in IISER Aptitude Test so decided to come here. This was because IISER is always a good option for good exposure in the world of research and IISER Kolkata is one those prestigious institution. For admission in an IISER one has to clear an entrance test called IAT(IISER Aptitude Test). Secure good rank and should clear the cutoff. After clearing the cutoff one can secure a seat in one of the 7 IISERs, IISc Bangalore, IIT-Madras(for one specific course)....Read More

So I decided to come across here. Admission process is simple, you have to write an exam called IAT( IISER aptitude test) where they ask you questions from Physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Then you get your rank and according to that your are alloted the college by the councelling IISER is completely research based institute, don't expect any placement from this college....Read More
