Remarks
The best college I have seen. Since it is government college I didn't see any issues from the staffs.
Entrance Preview
It was my higher secondary final school marks (+2) pushed me to this wonderful college. I opted for Statistics as I like it with allied as computer science subject. Since this is govt the college admission is purely based on merit. I just applied and based on my marks in final year school I got the admission easily.
Course Curriculum Overview
An overall curriculum was good. Electives were not of the students choice. it was based on the department choice based on their knowledge and experience. Those electives were given based on the higher education plan of students either to go for Masters in Statistics or Masters in Computer Science or Applications.
Internships Opportunities
Since it is govt college there is a scholarship available for students based on their community. Also, an internship is available for research students.
Placement Experience
Placements are available for computer courses based on the joint effort of students and staffs during those days. Staffs of other departments always help students to get placed. As I mentioned earlier teaching staffs are very friendly, helpful and taken care for each student studied.
College Events
Seabreeze was the inter-college festival conducted every year by the elected student union members of the college. Many colleges from Chennai participate in that event. Apart from this each department have its own yearly event conducted for inter-college pertaining only to the department.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since it is a government college fee structure was very minimum. In fact, there are scholarships available for students based on their community. The structure was each semester you need to pay tuition fee and exam fees. it was 600 rupees I paid as tuition fees for each semester and 600 rupees as exam fees for each semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
The scholarship is available for students based on their community. No loan facilities those days. not sure whether loan facility is available right now.
Campus Life
Campus life was awesome. No students who studied in Presidency will deny this fact. The Gender ratio was less only. 25 - 30% of the girls studied in each department during those days. The Sport practice was given after college hrs especially for Volley Ball, Basketball, and badminton.
Hostel Facilities
Those days hostel and mess facility was not good. The only reason is being a government college we cant expect much from them. The facility was available itself is a big deal in the heart of city which is located opposite to marina beach. what more you need?
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is good. currently, we are helping our juniors to get placed in many good companies in Chennai.
Exam Structure
Since the college was autonomous syllabus was not heavy. Exams are semester based. Internal assessment marks are considered for passing the exams. So if you are attentive in your class passing exam is no big deal. If you want to secure more marks then do research on your own. Exams are easy to face.
Admission
An issue of forms will be announced by the college. I bought the application form and submitted the form before the given due date. I got a call letter from the college to my residence to appear for the interview. I met the principal and HOD of statistics. They asked a couple of question regarding my school, hobbies, ambition and who opted for this course. Admission granted. I paid the fees told and joined the club of Presidencians (Kind of all colleges in Chennai)
Faculty
I would say best lecturers was in Presidency college during those days when I studied during 1995 - 1998. Most of them are doctorates and the knowledge they had was unbeatable in the subject. Also, they were very friendly with the students. Some of the names I remember in Statistics department was JK (Jayakumar), VI (Indumathi). Lovely lecturers.
