Remarks
The admission process for applying to any college of Delhi University is quite easy. For a basic undergraduate degree, admission is done based on merit and anybody above the 90 marks will definitely secure a seat in one of the colleges even without a quota. Having a quota will further reduce the minimum eligibility for the admission process. I got admission to Satyawati College, in the fourth cut off with 89% without a quota very smoothly by just filling the DU online admission form beforehand and then by rendering my mark sheets, character certificate, and transfer certificate when I fulfilled the eligibility of the released cutoff list. Also, a form was to be filled for issuing the I-card and the fee was to be submitted online. The ones with a quota had the minimum requirement of 60% marks in 12th and they were successful in securing a seat. Also, there were 8-10 cut-off lists subject to the availability of 60 seats and as soon as these seats were filled, further, cut-offs didn't release.
Course Curriculum Overview
English literature is such a diverse subject offering multitudes of opportunities- be it writing, communication, academia etc hence UGC ensures that a candidate is all set and prepared for any career path of his liking. Subjects like translation studies, creative writing, soft skills, communication skills, Environmental studies are also included in the curriculum so that diverse aspects may be covered up. Along with the core subjects, choices with respect to one's preference of specialization ahead, is provided in the form of electives. Plus, an additional generic subject is also provided if a student wishes to change stream or something that would complement his core subject. All the faculty members are highly qualified and mostly have Ph.D.'s or pursuing it. They are supportive, guide in context to both subject and career-related queries, counsel if one needs, and provides plenty of opportunities for improving the internal scores of 25 marks which they have in their hands.
Placement Experience
For a course like English, no placements are provided. One needs to join the placement cell of our college called saksham in order to be located somewhere or to get an internship in general. Such opportunities are lacking for the basic courses but for cources like maths, Bcom or economics such placements are widely provided. They get plenty opportunities via college as well as outside as well. Plus, cites like internshala etc provide the necessary opportunities. Having set my mind on academia, I needed to pursue further studies in order to procure a master's degree hence I didn't look out for such opportunities. Plus the college is just for undergraduates so the competitive exam called Duet is to be given in order to further study in DU.
Fees and Financial Aid
Studying at Delhi University doesn't only ensure quality education but is also very economical. The fees of Satyawati College go as low as 2000 for the ones with reservations and reaches the utmost 8000 for a year for the general candidates. There are concessions with respect to economically weaker sections, management quota, physically challenged students, and the ones with reservations. Apart from this, the examination fee is paid separately which merely costs 600-800 INR per semester. At such a low cost, services like libraries, labs, playgrounds, sports complexes, and the benefits of societies are provided. The fees don't vary very much and remain the same mostly. Plus incentives in the form of scholarship if one performs exceptionally well are also provided.
Campus Life
The fests of every college affiliated with DU are a go-to for every college student. Famous, known singers, actors, comedians, etc come for promotions in these fests which are the limelight of the university. These fests are organized in the month of February and every college organizes its own fest based on its budget. Satyawati College has two shifts- morning and evening so two separate fests are organised for them respectively so students get an added perk. Mostly all the resources are found in the library if by chance all the resources needed are issued then the service of photocopying is also very convenient here. Plus the fine is also moderate if one over exceeds the time limit of returning the books. For a quality education of merely 8000 per month, a lot of services are provided, hence the classes are not air-conditioned like the private Universities but important places like seminar room, library, labs, girls room, staff room, medical room, society rooms are air-conditioned.
Other Applied Colleges
Bharti college | BA English
I read reviews about both the colleges and found Satyawati College a better option.
Indraprastha University | BBA
DU is a prestigious university, trading it for a private university was not a wise decision.
