Shine with Voorhees

The managing committee at Voorhees College follows a scientific approach in formulating structure of their courses. Being a computer science student of the institute I feel they have provided me the right theoretical as well as practical approach of the prevailing standards followed at industries and other world class academic institutes.Apart from that the college has a centralized library with both general catalogue as well as departmental catalogue of thousands of books which aid students in enriching their subject knowledge as well as general knowledge.In addition the institute has tie up with other renowned institutes round the globe which provides them access to various journals, research papers etc which in turn helps students in improving their knowledge. Voorhees College has ample availability of professors, research staff as well as teachers who are also available to proper the right guidance to students for deciding the right career path. Exams are conducted in semester mode where each semester is of six months duration consisting of both theoretical classes and practical labs. At the completion of each semester an examination is conducted over all the subjects taught in the semester and results are declared after a month or so. During classes conducted in semester examination separate internal examinations are also conducted to review a student’s performance in the class and for his academic improvement.

Voorhees college has separate placement cell which is managed and monitored by placement committee.The placement committee consists of senior faculties and industry experts who have years of experience of working in various industries.The placement committee conducts workshops and training on latest trends in the industry, arrange for seminars as well as make necessary arrangement for industrial training.Industrial training consist of training at various renowned organizations and attending real life projects and exposure to all verticals of industry.After completion of course, the college arranges for on-campus and off-campus recruitment opportunities for students and providing necessary guidance even after graduation without any fee. Though internship in this college is limited to few students but luckily I got the opportunity to work as an Intern over here and gained necessary knowledge in my domain.Stipends provided during internships are smart and encourages a student to actively complete the internship and gather their certificates.Internships are based on real life projects and give students the opportunity for gaining hands on experience and knowledge. My project executed during my internship days at my college helped me grab the right job during my final examination.Since the interships are mostly conducted by industry experts, students get the flair of working in a real life scenario and attain the right experience and knowledge.

As it is already a known fact that studying computer science is a bit expensive but I firmly believe that Voorhese provide the course facility at a much cheaper rate compared to other colleges. Fees at Voorhese is divided into semesters and students need to submit their semester fee at the beginning of each semester. But installment facility is also available in the college at a much reduced rate of interest which students from poor families usually avail. Besides scholarships are available for meritorious students as well as loan waiver facility is also available for students from weaker sections of the society.Voorhese provide the facility of discount schemes for advancement payment of semester fees as well as course fee which many students have availed this far. Post Graduate course fees are expensive compared to under graduate courses because of the library facility as well as advanced equipped laboratories.The institute has tie up with a number of banks for availing loan facility for students at a reduced rate of interest.In addition the college provides Scholarships for SC, ST, ADC etc whose form can be downloaded from the university’s website.In addition to course fees, students are required to submit semester fees prior to appearing for the examination irrespective of caste, creed, religion or order of merit.

As the proverb goes- ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ , and Voorhese does not want its student to be a dull boy.Voorhese conducts annual sports every year along with participation of its students at various hockey tournaments, cricket tournaments, volley-ball, basketball tournaments as well as inter state cricket matches, football matches etc.It has open spaces as well as playgrounds, basketball courts etc to inculcate the spirit of physical well being of its students.Besides the institute organizes cultural fests every year at the college auditorium or in some other places for rceartion fo students which consist of drama, dance, plays, debates, singing completion etc. At times the college also conducts technical fests where students from other colleges also participate in coding completion, extempore, robotics , new inventions etc. Students are always found playing matches, practicing table tennis etc after college hours and tiffin breaks.Male female student ratios at Voorhese is 60:40 and the management is struggling to reduce this gap to 50:50.Voorhese believes in ‘Unity in diversity’ with its students and faculties from various strata of the society based on their merit and not based on cast, creed and religion.Recently Voorhese has introduced a women committee for addressing grievances of its female students and faculties and to fight sexual harassment work place and institute.

They conduct admission test for admission to both UG and PG courses along with strict adherence to marks. Final admission to done combining the performance at admission test and 12th marks. Besides the college has separate committee for conducting examinations which brings transparency in the admission process as well.Students are called for written examination based on some marks criteria and based on their performance in the written exam, successful candidates are called for interview followed by final interview based on 12th marks and performance in the written exam and personal interview.I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to study in such an institute of repute.

Faculties at Voorhees are highly qualified individuals with a nack of research work and self improvement in addition to providing knowledge and guidance to the students at the institute. Besides the institute has separate placement cell which provide guidance to students for placements and has partnership with various industries from all verticals for absorption of students at these industries after course completion as well as for industrial training.The college consist of a mixed bag of faculties from various domains, cultures as well as academic institutes. This in turn provides cross domain functional improvement of the college as well as inculcate an environment of brain storming of ideas.Since most of the faculties reside in the college campuses so they are readily available for any type of assistance to students and for doubt clearance of subjects.Besides the college provides an unique facility to the students of attending query classes of the best teachers of the institute prior to semester exams.Most of the faculties at the institute are PhD holders or pursuing their PhD’s whereas others are management gurus.Since the college has tie up with various institutes of India as well round the globe, it provides the facility of faculty exchange programs which in turn exposes students to various faculties from every corner of the world.
