What is the procedure for pursuing BA from IGNOU?
There are no special requirements for admission to B.A.
All you need is a 12th (intermediate) diploma from a recognized board (state or CBSE, ICSE).
Previously, admission was only available through regional centers. However, an online system is now available.
IGNOU offers admission in two sessions, one in July and one in December.
Each course has a different fee; for political science, the fee is Rs. 2,000 per year or Rs. 6,000 for all three years.
For e.g:
If you want to do a B.A (graduation) in political science, you must read three compulsory course codes (Humanities, Foundation in Hindi, and Foundation in English) in the first year and choose two courses of political science with credit of 16 (two courses each 8 credits). It is possible to complete 16 credits in the first year.
In the second year, one course is required, which is the foundation in science and technology, and the rest of the courses are optional. However, you must complete at least four courses (including S&T) in the second year, and two application-oriented courses in the third year (it is a very easy course, one can do it in one week each)
For an honors degree, one must complete 48 credits (each course equals 8 credits) in one subject; for political science, 48 credits must be completed in political science. Geography requires 48 credit hours. If a student fails to complete 48 credits in a single subject, he will be awarded only a graduation degree, not an honors degree.
Can we get direct second year admission to BA (Bachelor of Arts) in IDOL, YCMOU or IGNOU after passing a three-year civil engineering diploma?
No, it’s not possible to take lateral admission in a BA degree after completing a Civil Engineering diploma, in IDOL, YCMOU, or IGNOU. These two degrees are fundamentally different. You can get admission to BA after completing the course. But direct entry to second year isn’t possible.
IGNOU offers direct admission to some of its degree programs. For example, if you have done your BCA from IGNOU, you can join their 2 year MCA program through lateral admission. So, IGNOU lateral entry has fixed eligibility criteria. You won’t be eligible for direct admission to second year in IGNOU MCA if you completed your BCA from any other university.
What is the admission procedure at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) for second year B.A., if I have completed B.E. first year in a regular college?
The eligibility criteria for pursuing a BA program from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is 10+2 from a recognized board. Even if you completed one year of BE from any regular college, for admission to BA you will be evaluated based on your 10+2 marks.
IGNOU offers BA programs in 12 streams, such as Polity, History, Civics, Philosophy Mathematics, etc. BA courses at the institute are UGC accredited. Here is a brief insight into the admission requirement and procedure for the BA programs at IGNOU which may be helpful.

Since it is an open university, there is no limitation in the number of seats available, and the admission is direct.

Applications can be made online and there are two intake sessions in an academic year, i.e. January and June.

Select your courses and fill the candidate application form

After successful submission, your application will be accepted provisionally.
From the academic session of July 2019, IGNOU has adopted the Choice Based Credit System introduced by UGC, which provides flexibility for the students to study the subjects/courses of their choice depending on their requirement or interest, choose disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and skill-based courses, and also move to a different institute for study.
