Among these colleges, Madras Medical College is the best option. It is one of the oldest medical colleges in India. It offers huge case studies due to the patient load. The teaching faculties are great. The infrastructure of the institute is quite good. As the institute is located in the capital, it is more or less like a private medical college.
After MMC, the 2nd best option is Stanley Medical College followed by Madurai and Thanjavur. You will get to witness huge case studies at Thanjavur as it serves as a single medical college for three nearby districts.
I will always recommend you to choose PGIMS over AIIMS Madurai mainly because PGIMS is a very old Institute established as early as 1959 while AIIMS Madurai is a new college and will take time to establish itself. Moreover, students of AIIMS Madurai have to study along with students of Ramanathapuram Medical College.
So, I will suggest you not to run behind the AIIMS tag.
Madurai Medical College used to be the top choice, but now that it has 250 seats, the quality might drop. So, I'd suggest going for Thanjavur Medical College instead.
Madurai Government Medical College is one of the oldest institutions in Tamil Nadu. The environment is quite nice, and it often seems like the whole college is focused on first-year MBBS students, especially in the mornings. The air is clean, which is a big plus. The professors are excellent, genuinely caring about their students.
I spent nearly a year there, so I can say this from personal experience. Thanks for checking this out! Good luck, my friend!
From a student's perspective, all these medical colleges rank similarly since they're among the oldest and most respected in the region. When it comes to education, it's really about how well you make use of the facilities and opportunities they provide. MMC, Madurai, and Thanjavur tend to have more patients, so it's up to you to make the most of the learning chances there.
I'm from Chennai, and I must admit, MMC students have a great advantage with the city's endless options for entertainment and food. But honestly, I'd never give up the open, green campus of Thanjavur, with its forested areas and peacocks wandering around near the hostel. Plus, Thanjavur's central location in Tamil Nadu makes it easy to visit nearby towns and attractions.
And by the way, you can find some really good food at very affordable prices!
I've had a pretty good experience at Madurai Medical College while studying B.Sc Nursing. The tuition fee is just Rs. 3950 per year, which is quite affordable. The hostel facilities are decent, but the mess food could be better. The campus has a library, and while the faculty are knowledgeable, some of them just read from PPTs instead of teaching properly. The college does prepare you well for practical nursing, but it might lack in theoretical depth at times. Overall, if you’re looking for a low-cost nursing program, this could be a good fit, but be prepared for some challenges.
Madurai Medical College in Tamil Nadu provides hostels for both male and female students. The accommodations are comfortable and come with a range of facilities.

Madurai Medical College for MBBS is a pretty good choice, especially if you're looking for a government college with affordable fees. The tuition fee is around 18,073 per year, which is manageable. The curriculum is quite extensive, and exams are held every week, which can be a bit overwhelming at times. However, the faculty is very supportive and approachable, which helps a lot when you're struggling with the workload. Overall, it's a solid place if you're committed to the medical field.
I chose Madurai Medical College for my MBBS, and the experience has been pretty good. The tuition is affordable, and there are many opportunities for internships, which I think are crucial for our learning. The classrooms are well-equipped, and I appreciate the emphasis on practical knowledge. However, the workload can be overwhelming at times.
Overall, I think both colleges have their strengths, but I feel Madurai Medical College has a slight edge due to its supportive environment and facilities.
Hey there,
When comparing Madurai Medical College and Dharmapuri Medical College, both offer quality medical education in Tamil Nadu. They are part of the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and have the Medical Council of India (MCI) recognition. In terms of rankings, Madurai Medical College stands at the 6th position among medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, whereas Dharmapuri Medical College is at 17th. Generally, this makes Madurai Medical College the preferred choice.
Hope this helps!
