What are the chances of working in the USA after a PGDM from IIM Calcutta?
There is practically no place in the corporate world you cannot reach if you attend India's top management school, IIM Calcutta. You and your degree are well-known and respected in this community.
When it comes to regions outside of India, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, or Australia and New Zealand, your degree is not recognized on par with Tier-1 global MBA colleges. In fact, you are likely to be treated on par with graduates from that country's tier-2/3 colleges.
After hiring an IIM graduate, few companies offer a position in the United States. These are typically consulting (management/strategy/IT) positions that may require you to travel to the United States on an H1 or L1 visa. There are very few chances. If settling in the United States is your primary goal, it is preferable to pursue a higher degree (MS/MBA) in the United States.
How much is the salary after graduating in Germany?
The average annual salary after a bachelor’s degree in Germany is reportedly 49,000 EUR (43.06 lakhs INR). After completing a master’s degree in Germany you can expect an average salary of 57,000 EUR (50 lakhs INR) per annum.
Is it possible to get a job at McKinsey, Bain, BCG, or A.T Kearney 1 year after graduating from IIM Ahmedabad?
At McKinsey, the minimum time between two attempts to go through the recruitment process is 24 months. The procedure is the same as on campus, with similar case-type interviews. There are two options for applying: directly through the website or through a referral. In either case, your CV will not be accepted until you have completed two years of work. The process for lateral hires is carried out 1-2 times per year, depending on the availability of roles. If your CV is chosen for further consideration, you will be contacted for an interview. If the partners interviewing you are unsure about something, the opinions of your batch mates will only serve as a push in either direction. Also, if you were previously shortlisted for campus interviews, those who interviewed you will be asked for their perceptions.
As a result, it would be beneficial to receive feedback on why you did not pass the previous exam and whether you were able to make up the difference in the two years between. For example, if you lacked leadership experience, did your workplace provide you with opportunities to demonstrate it? Have you gained experience delivering analytics-heavy projects if your academics or problem-solving skills were a weak link? These are the topics on which you will be grilled the most.
Lateral hiring for those who were previously rejected is extremely rare, and even if you make it, you will start at the bottom, a couple of years junior to your batch mates.
How are HR summer placements at MDI Gurgaon? What is the average stipend received and what are the profiles offered?
You will be glad to know that the MDI HR batch gets placed much earlier than PGDM. This is because the batch is smaller than the number of visiting companies and hence all the students are placed within no time.
My friend was in MDI Gurgaon HR program and shared the summer placements scenario with me. Packages: 58 students were offered decent packages with the Highest CTC standing at INR 35.57 LPA. In fact the last candidate also got 85000/- month.
Profiles: Profiles vary from consultants to Corporate HR and Plant HR roles. Around 30 students are placed in consultant roles.
Companies visited: The big names that visited MDI Gurgaon for HR placements were Aditya Birla Group, Google, JSW Group, Accenture Strategy, AON Consulting, Deloitte USI, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Flipkart, Mahindra & Mahindra, PhonePe & PwC US Advisory.
All the top B-School competitions for HR are open for 3 colleges only namely Xl, TISS, and MDI. MDI students have won many such competitions and shone the name of the institute. Without any doubt it is one of the best B Schools in the country and its placements are a testament to that.
What should I choose between an MBA from IIM Amritsar and central excise inspector or other inspector jobs from SSC CGL?
Looking at the 2 options provided by you, I can say IIM Amritsar is definitely a better choice. I have seen many people regret going for CGL.
Excise Inspector is the worst post of CGL and many of them retire as superintendents themselves. The transfer is banned in CBIC so no matter which remote area you have been posted to, you have to stay there for 15-20 years until you become Assistant Commissioner which is rare.
You can change your life in two ways

- Or leave the post and prepare for CAT
You can become a CEO through the second option. I have many acquaintances who left the CGL and went for CAT and today are entrepreneurs or CEOs. Surely the job at CGL provides security but the job itself is not worth it.
What are the prospects of pursuing an MBA in Marketing from IIMs, JBIMS, XLRI, MICA, or SIBM, with poor academics, and how can one compensate for the same?
Your poor academic record can be a major hindrance, especially in summer placements because the companies know you haven’t done anything major yet in the B School. So I will suggest you some tips that might help you compensate for your low 12th class marks and get you a good internship offer
- Enroll in an online course as this might be a major topic of discussion in the interview. It should preferably be an advanced version of your current course or a unique course.
- Get involved in volunteer work at NGOs. This will not only prove to be beneficial during your interview but also will help you become a part of social service committees on campus.
- Master a new language preferably French, Mandarin or Spanish as this may increase your chances of getting International placement or foreign exchange.
- Look for internships that offer practical knowledge for a short period of time.
As far as the Final Placements are concerned, you will have to improve your profile to attract the best recruiters. Some tips to improve your general profile are
- Rather than focusing on your past academics, focus on the new phase of your life and give your best
- Go for courses that offer live projects as recruiters highly prefer such exposure. Sometimes even the on-campus committees offer such live projects. Many times the winners of such projects get amazing PPOs or cash prizes.
- Joining a good on-campus committee is beneficial not only in maintaining a good campus life but also improving your overall profile. You get amazing exposure by interacting with industry professionals in the corporate world during events and conferences.
- If you are skilled at writing, do the same for business magazines or websites.
All this will help you make the most out of your MBA experience and also improve your profile enough to attract the best placement offers. The only key is to work hard relentlessly.
Can I work in France after MBA?
Once you have earned your MBA, you can apply for APS (authorization Provisoire de séjour). This is a one-time and a non-renewable temporary residency authorization, specially for graduates aiming to find a job after MBA in France. APS is valid for 12 months only.
How is the life after IIM Trichy?
After the completion of my MBA from IIM Trichy, I realized that the placements were decent and in accordance with the IIM standards. Most students got expected or more than expected-CTCs. The students who were unable to get placed in a desirable firm opted for off-campus placements and they too landed better jobs. Most of the students were able to start their careers within a month after graduation.
All in all, after 2 hectic years full of classes and exams, it’s kind of relaxing to sit and wait for placements.

What will be the TCS package while joining from LWP (leave without pay) after doing an MBA from the new IIMs (Raipur, Udaipur, Kashipur etc.) with prior experience of 29 months in the TCS?
A person joining TCS after completing an MBA from the new IIMs with a prior work experience of more than 2 years will earn around 8 - 10 LPA. The consulting roles usually offer a salary package of around 8 LPA at TCS to a B School graduate. But your prior experience and performance with TCS might also affect your package with an increase of up to 10 LPA (maximum).
