CMAT 2027 (Common Management Admission Test) is a national-level MBA entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to MBA, PGDM, PGCM, and other management programmes. More than 1,300 AICTE-approved B-schools across India accept CMAT scores, making it one of the most widely recognised management entrance tests in the country. As of October 13, 2026, NTA has not yet released the official CMAT 2027 notification — based on the 2026 cycle pattern, when the notification came out on October 17, 2025, the announcement is expected any day now.
- Notification: CMAT 2027 official notification is expected in October 2026. Last year, NTA released it on October 17, 2025, and registration opened on the same day.
- Registration: CMAT 2027 application form is expected to open in October 2026 and close in late November 2026. Last year, the window ran from October 17 to November 24, 2025 (extended once). The application fee for General/OBC/EWS candidates is expected to be around Rs. 2,000.
- Exam Date: CMAT 2027 is expected in the last week of January 2027. Last year, the exam was held on January 25, 2026, as a 3-hour computer-based test across 259 centres in 110 cities with 100 questions worth 400 marks.
- Result: CMAT 2027 result is expected in February 2027. Last year, NTA declared the CMAT 2026 result on February 17, 2026 — about 23 days after the exam. There is no centralised counselling; you must apply to each college individually after the result.
What is CMAT 2027?
CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) 2027 is a national-level entrance exam conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) for admission to MBA, PGDM, PGCM, and related management programmes. CMAT is approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), and more than 1,300 AICTE-approved B-schools accept its score.
The exam tests candidates on five areas: Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. This last section — Innovation & Entrepreneurship — makes CMAT unique among MBA entrance exams. No other major management entrance test in India has this as a dedicated section worth 80 marks.
CMAT is particularly important for candidates targeting Maharashtra. Top government-aided colleges like JBIMS (Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies) and SIMSREE (Sydenham Institute of Management Studies) admit candidates almost exclusively through CMAT scores via the DTE Maharashtra CAP process. Getting into JBIMS through CMAT is one of the best return-on-investment choices in Indian MBA admissions — a low-fee institute with strong placements.
For CMAT 2026, around 53,453 candidates registered — much fewer than exams like CAT (over 3.3 lakh). This means fewer competitors overall, but top colleges still demand very high percentiles. JBIMS requires 99.99 percentile.

CMAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria
You must meet the CMAT 2027 eligibility criteria before submitting your application form. NTA sets these conditions in line with AICTE guidelines. Here is a complete breakdown of who can appear:
Educational Qualification
- You must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in any stream — arts, science, commerce, engineering, or any other discipline.
- Final-year students can also apply. If you clear the exam and get admission, your seat stays provisional until you submit your final graduation marksheet.
- There is no minimum percentage required to appear in CMAT. However, most colleges require at least 50% in graduation for final admission (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates). This threshold is set by individual colleges — NTA does not impose it for the exam.
Age Limit
- There is no upper or lower age limit to appear for CMAT 2027. Any graduate can apply.
Nationality
- CMAT is open to Indian nationals.
- Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) may also apply. Their eligibility for individual college admissions depends on each institute’s own rules.
Number of Attempts
- NTA does not restrict how many times you can appear in CMAT. You can take the exam every year if needed.
Note: Eligibility conditions for individual B-schools can be stricter than the general CMAT eligibility. Always check your target college’s official admission brochure before applying.
CMAT 2027 Application Process
CMAT 2027 registration will be done entirely online at the official NTA portal. Based on last year’s cycle, the application window is expected to open in October 2026. Here is a step-by-step guide to fill the CMAT 2027 application form:

NTA usually opens a short correction window of 2-3 days after registration closes. You can fix mistakes in your form — except name, category, and payment details — during this period. Last year, the correction window was November 26 to 28, 2025.
CMAT 2027 Application Fee
The official CMAT 2027 application fee will be confirmed in the notification. Based on the CMAT 2026 fee structure, here is what is expected for each category:
| Category | Expected Fee (CMAT 2027) | Actual Fee (CMAT 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS / OBC-NCL | Rs. 2,000 (Expected) | Rs. 2,000 |
| SC / ST / PwD | Rs. 1,000 (Expected) | Rs. 1,000 |
| Transgender | Rs. 1,000 (Expected) | Rs. 1,000 |
Payment is accepted only through online modes — credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI. No offline payment or demand draft facility is available. The fee is non-refundable under all circumstances, including if you do not appear for the exam.
CMAT 2027 Exam Pattern
CMAT 2027 is expected to follow the same format as CMAT 2026. The exam is a 3-hour computer-based test with 100 questions spread across 5 sections, for a total of 400 marks. Here is the full CMAT 2027 exam pattern:
| Section | Number of Questions | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation | 20 | 80 |
| Logical Reasoning | 20 | 80 |
| Language Comprehension | 20 | 80 |
| General Awareness | 20 | 80 |
| Innovation and Entrepreneurship | 20 | 80 |
| Total | 100 | 400 |
Key Features of CMAT 2027 Exam Format
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) — online exam at a designated exam centre
- Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours) for all 100 questions combined; no section-level time limit
- Marking Scheme: +4 for every correct answer; -1 for every wrong answer; 0 for unattempted questions
- Section Switching: Unlike CAT, CMAT lets you move freely between all 5 sections throughout the exam. You can attempt questions in any order and revisit them before time runs out.
- Question Type: Multiple-choice questions (MCQ) with 4 options each
- Language: English only
- Unique Section: Innovation and Entrepreneurship (20 questions, 80 marks) is exclusive to CMAT — this section does not appear in CAT, XAT, MAT, or any other national MBA exam
Important: The exam pattern for CMAT 2027 may be revised if NTA makes changes in the official notification. Always verify the format from the CMAT 2027 Information Bulletin once it is released.
CMAT 2027 Syllabus
The official CMAT 2027 syllabus has not been released yet. However, NTA follows a consistent syllabus pattern across cycles. You can start your preparation based on the CMAT 2026 syllabus, which is given section-wise below:
Section 1: Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
- Number Systems, HCF and LCM, Factors and Multiples
- Percentages, Profit and Loss, Discount, Simple and Compound Interest
- Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Mixtures and Alligation
- Time, Speed and Distance; Time and Work; Pipes and Cisterns
- Algebra: Linear and Quadratic Equations, Inequalities
- Geometry: Lines, Triangles, Circles, Mensuration (2D and 3D)
- Permutations and Combinations, Probability
- Data Interpretation: Tables, Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Pie Charts, Caselets
This section is easier than CAT Quant. You do not need to study advanced number theory or complex geometry. Arithmetic and DI form the core.
Section 2: Logical Reasoning
- Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense, Blood Relations
- Syllogisms and Logical Deductions
- Seating Arrangements, Circular Arrangements, Puzzles
- Number Series, Letter Series, Analogies, Odd One Out
- Critical Reasoning: Strengthen/Weaken Arguments, Assumptions, Inferences
- Statement and Conclusions, Cause and Effect
Section 3: Language Comprehension
- Reading Comprehension (1-2 passages with 4-5 questions each)
- Vocabulary: Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms, Phrases, One-word Substitution
- Grammar: Error Identification, Sentence Correction, Subject-Verb Agreement
- Para Jumbles (sentence rearrangement)
- Fill in the Blanks (single and double)
- Word Usage and Contextual Meaning
CMAT Language Comprehension tests vocabulary more directly than CAT does. Build your word bank alongside reading comprehension practice.
Section 4: General Awareness
- Current Affairs — the 6-8 months immediately before the exam (for CMAT 2027, focus from June 2026 onwards)
- Business and Economy News, Corporate Events, RBI Policy
- Indian History, Constitution, and Polity
- Science and Technology Updates
- International Events, Treaties, and Organizations
- Sports — tournaments, awards, and records
- Books and Authors, Important Persons
- Government Schemes and Policy Decisions
Section 5: Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Concepts of Innovation, Creativity, and Design Thinking
- Indian Startup Ecosystem — Unicorns, Soonicorns, Startup India initiative
- Famous Entrepreneurs in India and globally
- Business Models: B2B, B2C, D2C, SaaS, Marketplace
- Startup Funding Stages: Bootstrapping, Angel, Seed, Series A/B/C, IPO
- Government Schemes: Startup India, Atal Innovation Mission, DPIIT
- Social Entrepreneurship and Corporate Social Responsibility
- Intellectual Property: Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights
- Key Terms: MVP (Minimum Viable Product), Pivot, Burn Rate, Runway, Incubator, Accelerator
Many candidates prepare only 4 out of 5 sections and skip Innovation & Entrepreneurship. This is a mistake. It is a relatively easy section if you follow startup news and government scheme updates. Strong performance here can meaningfully lift your total score.

CMAT Registration and Attendance Trend
| Particulars | CMAT 2026 | CMAT 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Total Registered Candidates | 53,453 | 74,012 |
| Total Appeared Candidates | 41,872 | 63,145 |
| Attendance Rate | 78.33% | ~85% |
| Exam Centres | 259 | Not available |
| Cities | 110 | Not available |
Registration fell by about 28% from 2025 to 2026. If this trend reverses in 2027 and more candidates register, the effective competition at each percentile band will rise. Watch the official registration statistics after CMAT 2027 closes.
CMAT 2027 Score vs Percentile
CMAT does not rank candidates by raw marks alone. NTA converts total scores into a percentile that shows what percentage of candidates scored below you. The table below gives the expected score-percentile mapping for CMAT 2027, based on the CMAT 2026 trend.
If registrations recover in 2027 (back towards the 70,000+ level seen in 2025), a slightly higher raw score may be needed to reach the same percentile. If registrations stay around 50,000, the 2026 curve is a reasonable guide.
| Score Range (out of 400) | Expected Percentile (CMAT 2027) |
|---|---|
| 350 – 400 | 99.90 – 100 |
| 300 – 349 | 99.00 – 99.89 |
| 260 – 299 | 95.00 – 98.99 |
| 220 – 259 | 85.00 – 94.99 |
| 180 – 219 | 70.00 – 84.99 |
| 140 – 179 | 50.00 – 69.99 |
| 100 – 139 | 30.00 – 49.99 |
| Below 100 | Below 30 |
Note: These are expected estimates based on CMAT 2026 data. Actual score-to-percentile figures for CMAT 2027 will depend on exam difficulty and the number of candidates who appear. NTA will publish the official mapping with the result.
CMAT 2027 Cutoff for Top MBA Colleges
CMAT 2027 cutoffs will vary by college. Each B-school sets its own minimum percentile after the NTA result is declared. Top colleges in Maharashtra set very high bars because they have limited seats and very strong reputations.
The table below shows expected CMAT 2027 cutoffs based on CMAT 2026 trends. Actual cutoffs will be published by each college after the result.
| College | City | Expected CMAT 2027 Cutoff |
|---|---|---|
| JBIMS (Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies) | Mumbai | 99.99+ percentile |
| SIMSREE (Sydenham Institute of Management Studies) | Mumbai | 99.50+ percentile |
| KJ Somaiya Institute of Management | Mumbai | 98.00+ percentile |
| PUMBA (Dept. of Management Sciences, Pune University) | Pune | 95.00+ percentile |
| Goa Institute of Management (GIM) | Panaji, Goa | 90.00+ percentile |
| Welingkar Institute of Management Development | Mumbai | 90.00+ percentile |
| IFMR Graduate School of Business (Krea University) | Sri City, AP | 85.00+ percentile |
| XISS (Xavier Institute of Social Service) | Ranchi | 80.00+ percentile |
| BIMTECH (Birla Institute of Management Technology) | Greater Noida | 75.00+ percentile |
| Great Lakes Institute of Management | Chennai / Gurgaon | 75.00+ percentile |
Note: All cutoffs above are expected estimates based on 2026 trends. Actual CMAT 2027 cutoffs will depend on exam difficulty, total candidates, and each college’s admission policy. Always check the official admission brochure of your target college.
JBIMS and SIMSREE are government-aided autonomous institutes in Mumbai. Their total programme fee is very low — around Rs. 1-4 lakh for 2 years — yet their placement records are among the best in India for CMAT-accepting colleges. This combination makes the cutoff extremely competitive.
Top MBA Colleges Accepting CMAT Score
More than 1,300 AICTE-approved B-schools accept CMAT scores for MBA and PGDM admissions. These range from top government-aided colleges in Maharashtra to private management institutes across India. Here are the prominent colleges that accept CMAT 2027 scores:
| College | City | Programme |
|---|---|---|
| JBIMS (Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies) | Mumbai | MMS |
| SIMSREE (Sydenham Institute of Management Studies) | Mumbai | MMS |
| PUMBA (Dept. of Management Sciences, Pune University) | Pune | MBA |
| KJ Somaiya Institute of Management | Mumbai | MBA |
| Goa Institute of Management (GIM) | Panaji, Goa | PGDM |
| Welingkar Institute of Management Development | Mumbai / Bangalore | PGDM |
| IFMR Graduate School of Business (Krea University) | Sri City, AP | MBA |
| XISS (Xavier Institute of Social Service) | Ranchi | PGDM |
| BIMTECH (Birla Institute of Management Technology) | Greater Noida | PGDM |
| Great Lakes Institute of Management | Chennai / Gurgaon | PGDM |
| Jaipuria Institute of Management | Noida / Lucknow / Jaipur | PGDM |
| Amity Business School | Noida | MBA |
Where CMAT Gives the Most Advantage
CMAT is most powerful as a tool if you are targeting Maharashtra-based MBA admissions. JBIMS and SIMSREE admit students through CMAT via the DTE Maharashtra CAP, and their placement outcomes rival much more expensive private institutes. If your goal is value-for-money MBA education, CMAT is the single most important exam to crack.
Outside Maharashtra, CMAT is accepted by many mid-tier PGDM colleges. However, the top national PGDM institutes like XLRI Jamshedpur, MDI Gurgaon, and SPJIMR Mumbai do not use CMAT — they require CAT, XAT, or GMAT. Plan your exam portfolio accordingly.
CMAT 2027 Counselling and Admission Process
CMAT has no centralised counselling conducted by NTA. After the CMAT 2027 result is out, NTA’s role ends. You must apply to each B-school separately using your CMAT percentile and scorecard.
General Admission Process After CMAT 2027
- Download Scorecard: Get your CMAT 2027 scorecard from cmat.nta.nic.in. Every college will ask for this document.
- Research Colleges: Based on your percentile, identify colleges where you fall within or above the expected cutoff range. Build a balanced list — a few reach colleges, a few match, and a few safe options.
- Apply to Colleges: Each college has its own online application portal and deadline. Apply and pay separately for every college you want to be considered at.
- Shortlisting: Colleges shortlist candidates based on CMAT percentile, academic performance, work experience, and sometimes extracurricular activities.
- GD/WAT/PI Round: Most top colleges hold Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT), or Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The weightage of GD-PI vs CMAT score varies by college — some give the interview as much weight as the exam score.
- Final Merit List: Colleges release selection lists based on a combined score of CMAT percentile, GD/PI performance, academics, and work experience.
- Seat Confirmation: Pay the admission fee within the deadline to confirm your seat. Missed deadlines usually mean the seat goes to the next candidate.
DTE Maharashtra CAP for Government-Aided Colleges
For MBA admissions to government-aided colleges in Maharashtra — JBIMS, SIMSREE, PUMBA, and others — DTE Maharashtra (Directorate of Technical Education) runs a Centralized Admission Process (CAP). This is entirely separate from the college-by-college process.
- After the CMAT result, you must register separately on the DTE Maharashtra CAP portal.
- You go through online document verification and confirm your application at a facilitation centre.
- DTE releases multiple rounds of seat allotment. You must confirm your allotted seat in each round or you lose it.
- The Maharashtra CAP for 2027 MBA admissions is expected to begin around March 2027, after the CMAT result.
Note: If you are a Maharashtra domicile candidate targeting JBIMS or SIMSREE, do NOT miss the DTE Maharashtra CAP registration window. A high CMAT percentile alone is not enough — you must complete the CAP registration separately.
CMAT 2027 Preparation Tips
CMAT 2027 is expected in late January 2027. With the notification expected in October 2026, you have around 3-4 months to prepare. Here are section-wise tips and an overall strategy:
1. Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
- Focus on arithmetic: percentages, ratios, profit-loss, and time-speed-distance are the most tested topics in CMAT QT.
- Practice DI sets from tables and bar charts daily. CMAT DI is more straightforward than CAT — focus on calculation speed rather than complex reasoning.
- You do not need advanced geometry or number theory for CMAT. Keep preparation targeted to what CMAT actually asks.
- Previous year papers show consistent patterns — solve at least 3-4 years of actual CMAT QT sections.
2. Logical Reasoning
- Practice seating arrangements, blood relations, and syllogisms every day.
- CMAT LR includes both verbal and analytical reasoning types — prepare both.
- Solve at least 20-25 LR questions daily in the months before the exam to build speed and accuracy.
3. Language Comprehension
- Read one editorial or opinion article daily. This builds vocabulary and reading speed simultaneously.
- Practice para jumbles and sentence correction — these question types appear more frequently in CMAT than RC alone.
- CMAT vocabulary questions are more direct than CAT. Use word lists from past CMAT papers to build a targeted vocabulary base.
4. General Awareness
- Start tracking current affairs from June 2026 onwards. The 6-8 months before the exam is the key period.
- Make short weekly notes on key events: government schemes, RBI policy, Union Budget highlights, major international events.
- CMAT GA has a strong preference for business, economy, and startup news. These categories should be your priority over general static GK.
- Revise your notes weekly — GA is entirely about retention, not reasoning.
5. Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Read about India’s top startup unicorns — their founders, founding year, sector, and valuation milestones.
- Study Startup India, Atal Innovation Mission, and DPIIT initiatives in detail.
- Learn the standard stages of startup funding (seed, Series A through D, IPO) and common terms (MVP, burn rate, runway, pivot).
- Most candidates prepare only 4 out of 5 sections. A well-prepared Innovation & Entrepreneurship section can be the difference between 95 and 98 percentile.
Overall Strategy
- Start mock tests early: Begin full 3-hour CMAT mock tests by November 2026. Analyse your section-wise scores after each test and fix weak areas.
- Practice free section switching: CMAT allows movement between all 5 sections. Practise in this format — start with your strongest section to build momentum.
- Previous year papers: Solve at least 5 previous year CMAT papers. The difficulty level and question style are consistent year to year.
- Last-month plan: From early January 2027, shift entirely to revision and mock tests. Avoid new topics in the final weeks.
- Negative marking discipline: With -1 for wrong answers, never guess randomly. Skip uncertain questions and revisit them — use CMAT’s free section switching to your advantage.
FAQs on CMAT 2027
Ques. What is the CMAT 2027 exam date?
Ans. NTA has not announced the official CMAT 2027 exam date as of October 2026. Based on the previous cycle, CMAT 2027 is expected in the last week of January 2027. CMAT 2026 was held on January 25, 2026. Once NTA releases the official notification, the confirmed date will be available at cmat.nta.nic.in.
Ques. When will CMAT 2027 registration start?
Ans. CMAT 2027 registration is expected to start in October 2026. Last year, NTA opened registration on October 17, 2025, the same day as the notification. The window closed on November 24, 2025 after one extension. Check cmat.nta.nic.in for the official date once the notification is released.
Ques. What is the CMAT 2027 application fee?
Ans. The official CMAT 2027 fee will be confirmed in the notification. Based on CMAT 2026, the expected fee is Rs. 2,000 for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS candidates, and Rs. 1,000 for SC, ST, PwD, and Transgender candidates. Payment is online only, and the fee is non-refundable.
Ques. What is the CMAT 2027 exam pattern?
Ans. CMAT 2027 is expected to be a 3-hour computer-based test with 100 questions across 5 sections — Quantitative Techniques and DI, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Each section has 20 questions worth 80 marks. Total marks: 400. Marking: +4 for correct, -1 for wrong, 0 for unattempted.
Ques. What is the eligibility for CMAT 2027?
Ans. You need a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in any stream. Final-year students can also apply. There is no minimum percentage to appear in CMAT, no age limit, and no cap on the number of attempts. Individual colleges may require at least 50% in graduation (45% for SC/ST/PwD) for final admission.
Ques. Is there negative marking in CMAT 2027?
Ans. Yes. CMAT has negative marking. Every correct answer gives +4 marks. Every wrong answer deducts 1 mark. There is no penalty for leaving a question unattempted. Avoid random guessing — use CMAT’s free section switching to skip uncertain questions and revisit them before time runs out.
Ques. What is a good CMAT score to get into top colleges?
Ans. It depends on your target college. JBIMS Mumbai requires 99.99 percentile. SIMSREE needs around 99.50 percentile. PUMBA Pune is typically reachable at 95 percentile. For good private management colleges, 80 to 90 percentile is a reasonable target. A total score of around 300 out of 400 generally puts you above the 99 percentile mark.
Ques. Is there any centralised CMAT counselling process?
Ans. No centralised CMAT counselling exists. After the result, you apply to each college directly. The exception is Maharashtra — DTE Maharashtra runs the CAP (Centralized Admission Process) for government-aided MBA colleges like JBIMS, SIMSREE, and PUMBA. If you want those seats, register separately on the DTE Maharashtra portal after the CMAT result. Missing the CAP window means losing eligibility for those seats regardless of your percentile.
Ques. What is the Innovation and Entrepreneurship section in CMAT?
Ans. Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a 20-question, 80-mark section that is unique to CMAT — it does not appear in CAT, XAT, MAT, or any other major MBA entrance exam. It tests your knowledge of startup concepts, the Indian startup ecosystem, government schemes like Startup India, funding stages, and key terms like MVP, burn rate, and pivot. Candidates who prepare for this section well can significantly improve their overall percentile.
Ques. Can I switch between sections during CMAT?
Ans. Yes. CMAT allows complete freedom to move between all 5 sections within the 3-hour exam. There is no section-level time limit. This means you can start with your strongest section, build confidence, and return to harder questions later. This is a big structural advantage over CAT, which locks each section with its own countdown timer.
Ques. How many candidates appear for CMAT each year?
Ans. For CMAT 2026, 53,453 candidates registered and 41,872 appeared (78.33% attendance). In 2025, 74,012 registered and around 63,145 appeared. These numbers are much lower than CAT (over 3 lakh) or XAT (around 1 lakh). The smaller candidate pool means fewer direct competitors, but top college cutoffs remain very high because of limited seats and strong demand.
