What is the RISE foundation setup at IISER?

The Research Innovation and Scientific Entrepreneurship (RISE) Foundation IISER set up on the IISER Kolkata campus will act as a nodal hub to enhance entrepreneurship in the eastern and north eastern part of India, thereby creating new job opportunities and strengthening the economy of the region. RISE has received generous Funding from NIDHI-TBI scheme of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and IISER Kolkata for developing state-of-the art facilities to foster entrepreneurship. The VISION is to exploit the high quality research being carried out at IISER Kolkata and nearby institutes for creating and nurturing an innovation ecosystem. In addition, the main intention is to provide management training, business consulting, assistance in business plan creation and networking opportunities so as to ensure business viability and the eventual success of start-ups that the centre will help in nurturing businesses.

How does the Entrepreneurship Cell work at IISER?

The Entrepreneurship Cell was established to inculcate a business spirit within the student community. It offers a free platform where innovation meets excellence and creative minds meet expressive free thoughts. E- Cell team works together in applying creative ideas into practical life. This helps the students to elevate on a high pedestal of life. E-Cell seeks to nurture and encourage students Entrepreneurs by conducting seminars, competitions, educational courses and workshops so as to impress upon them the need for thriving businesses in the modern world. E- Cell, at IISER, are continuously evolving and trying to come up with more initiatives to realise students vision. One of the guiding principles is to demonstrate how Science, Technology and Research are inherently intertwined with businesses.The Entrepreneurship Cell of IISER Kolkata was established with the goal of inculcating an entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen within the student community.

What is PMRF at IISER?

The Prime Minister's Research Fellows (PMRF) Scheme has been designed for improving the quality of research in various higher educational institutions in the country. With attractive fellowships, the scheme seeks to attract the best talent into research thereby realizing the vision of development through innovation. The scheme was announced in the Budget 2018-19. The institutes which can offer PMRF include all the IITs, all the IISERs, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and some of the top Central Universities/NITs that offer science and/or technology degrees. The candidates will be selected through a rigorous selection process and their performance will be reviewed suitably through a national convention.

Placement Experience:

There's a placement cell in IISER K which is active and the median package ranges about 6lpa. Students here don't usually come for placements so that's not our first priority. You can do internships and projects which can be paid.

IISER Kolkata and why it's one of the best for research

There's an entire department dedicated to internships and placements and the information surrounding it. I am not sure about from which semester students become eligible for campus placements, but it must be around after the 3rd year. Of course the whole purpose of IISER is based on research rather than placements, as a result most of the students opt further studies than a job after their completion of MS

IISER kolkata and its description.

Students can sit for placement in their 5th year after completing the BS-MS course. Company like ITC infotech , TCS etc visit to offer placement. As iiser is a Institute mainly for research studies , not many students sit in placement, they opt for higher studies in national or in some foreign Institutes. From what i know the highest package in 2023 was 48 lpa and average package was 7 lpa.

College life explained in few words.

Campus placement is average but most opt for PhD. This doesn't mean I will. I am preparing myself for tech industry and trying to build something of my own. Entrepreurship is greatest passion one can have.20-30 percent placement rate.

Review of IISER-KOLKATA from a 1st Year student

This college is for those who wants phd or post doc.. so here is opportunity cell not placement cell.. if want good job.. then you have to find yourself.. but course quality is good enough.. and institute is very well known.. here 30% students go for placement and mean package is 7lpa.. but opportunity for phd or post doc is very good.. you will easily find scholarship

The placements are not that much as this is a research institute and people opt to go for PhD abroad. The percentage of people who get PhD abroad is around 60% and they also get fellowship for their experience during their phd

An awesome experience.

I do not have much data on this,But a few(4) of my seniors were placed in Dr. Reddy's lab with salaries around 9lpa.It being a science institute, they have. A newly made placement cell. (because most of the students opt for higher education after the completion of their studies )Some students also go for government jobs.But as the institute has signed some MoU s with well established foreign institutes (with jku Austria, UDE in Germany, university of Pennsylvania in USA, RWTH Aachen in Germany to name a few)and the high standings in global rankings(placed 48th in young institutes contributing to quality research world-wide by nature, 2019)These factors contribute to a good enough background for a future PhD or ms in other countries.

iisers are the best to give oppurtunities as internships and also good scope of doing phds at india as well as aboard af ter gettind the certificates. because of the experieence faculty present in the iisres it is the good scope to all the students who really want intershps and phds.

IISER Kolkata review by student

The college give us good exposure for PHDs and intership under research scientist. While there is a placement cell but it is not very active due to students opting for higher studies after completion of course. But college send their team to some competitions like iGEM ( a competition for biology enthusiasts). Also IISER is known world-wide in research field so a recommendation letter from your professor works very well for you in finding higher opportunities. You can also apply for internship in the college itself under a professor who's working on a topic you are interested in.

Lost of company as well as college offers Summer as well as winters internship. Many of us also received internship from foreign universities, list of some universities are Cambridge University, Oxford University, MIT etc
