BBEC BE Civil FAQs
Ques. Is Civil Engineering a good choice at BBEC Kokrajhar, and what are the career prospects after graduation?
Ans. Civil Engineering at BBEC is a solid choice for students from Assam and the northeastern region, especially given the government college status, AICTE approval, and ASTU affiliation. The department was established in 2018 and has been steadily building its alumni network. Graduates have found placements in companies like Mahindra Accelo, NRL, BCPL, APL, and Dalmia Cement, and several alumni have also qualified for GATE and civil services. The northeastern region has significant ongoing infrastructure development, making civil engineers from the region particularly relevant for government and PSU roles.
Ques. What is the actual annual fee at BBEC, and are there any hidden charges?
Ans. The official total fee for the 4-year BE Civil Engineering programme is Rs. 79,600, which works out to approximately Rs. 19,900 per year. This annual amount includes tuition fees (Rs. 10,000), course registration (Rs. 2,500), Technisia fest contribution (Rs. 2,500), and other departmental/sports charges. Additionally, an examination fee of approximately Rs. 1,500 per semester is charged separately. There are no hidden charges beyond these, and the fee structure is uniform for all categories.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for Civil Engineering students at BBEC, and what are the facilities?
Ans. BBEC has two hostels - Boys' Hostel-1 and Girls' Hostel-2. Girls' Hostel-2 recently became operational and can accommodate up to 180 students. Both hostels have 24x7 water supply, mess facilities, and generator backup. The boys' hostel fee is approximately Rs. 3,000 per year. Previously, girl students had to stay in PGs near the campus as the girls' hostel was under construction. With the new hostel now functional, accommodation is available for both boys and girls on campus.
Ques. What is the admission process for BBEC Civil Engineering, and is JEE Main score accepted?
Ans. Admission to BE Civil Engineering at BBEC is primarily through Assam CEE, conducted by ASTU. Only Assam domicile holders are eligible to appear in Assam CEE. The counselling and seat allotment is done through the DTE Assam portal. JEE Main scores are generally not used for direct admission to BBEC as it follows the state-level Assam CEE merit list. Lateral entry (2nd year) is available for diploma holders through JLEE (Joint Lateral Entry Examination) with 6 seats available.
Ques. What scholarships are most beneficial for BBEC Civil Engineering students, and how do I apply?
Ans. The most beneficial scholarship for BBEC students is the Ishan Uday Special Scholarship, which provides Rs. 7,800 per month (Rs. 93,600 per year) for students from the northeastern region pursuing technical courses - this amount significantly exceeds the annual college fee of Rs. 19,900. Other useful scholarships include the NEC Merit Scholarship (Rs. 13,000 per year) and AICTE Pragati Scholarship for girl students (Rs. 50,000 per year). All applications are made through the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in), typically between October and December. The college actively assists students in the application process.
Ques. How is the placement scenario specifically for Civil Engineering students at BBEC?
Ans. The Training and Placement Office at BBEC was established in 2022 and has been growing steadily. While placement data is more prominent for Chemical and Electrical Engineering branches (which are older departments), Civil Engineering students have been placed in companies like Mahindra Accelo, RDC, and government/PSU organisations. Several Civil Engineering alumni have also qualified GATE and joined government services including APSC. Given that Civil Engineering at BBEC started only in 2018, the placement ecosystem is still developing, but the infrastructure projects in Assam and the northeast provide strong regional employment opportunities for graduates.
