If candidates have no theater certificate, then how it get admission in NSD?

Archit GuptaNational School of Drama, India

The admission procedure at NSD is quite unpredictable. If you have done 6 plays it will help but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get selected.

Let’s say a person has 8 years of stage experience and has done over 20 plays. But there is no diversity. Also, he/she does not have much direction or backstage experience. It’s not likely that he/she will be selected.

However, if you have done 5 plays and have good technical knowledge of theater, then you can get admission easily.

Is there any scholarship for the admission. And if i opt for distance learning will it be effective

National School of Drama (NSD) does offer scholarships (monthly stipends of INR 6,000–INR 9,500 to admitted students in diploma/certificate courses), helping meet training and academic costs under conditions like bonds or surety.

However, distance learning is not a standard or effective option at NSD, as its programs are full-time, practical, and theatre-based, requiring in-person training, workshops, rehearsals, and performance practice for real skill development.

Iam 10+2 pass Now Should be admission In NSD delhi For B.A acting course What is Elegibility?
S
Sweta Kumari
Dec 24, 2025 20:07

At the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, a regular B.A. Acting course is not offered. The main full-time residential programme is a Three-Year Diploma in Dramatic Arts, which trains students in acting, design, and related theatre disciplines, and requires graduation (a bachelor’s degree) for eligibility, so just passing 10+2 alone is not sufficient for that diploma course.
