St Xavier’s Mumbai College Admission FAQs

Ques. Is it difficult to get admission into St. Xavier’s Mumbai?

Ans. St. Xavier's Mumbai admission is based on merit and entrance exams. Courses like BMS, BSc(IT), and BAJMC require students to clear the St. Xavier’s Entrance Test(XET). Other courses may be based on 12th-grade marks (merit-based). For most courses, selection is based on merit in 10+2 or Bachelor’s marks, making it relatively easy to get into Xavier’s Mumbai.

Ques. Can students from outside Maharashtra apply to Xavier Mumbai?

Ans. Yes, students from outside Maharashtra can apply to St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
Admission is open to all Indian students, regardless of their state of residence 50% of seats are reserved for Christian minority students, so non-Christian applicants compete for the remaining general and management quota seats. Admission may be merit-based or entrance exam-based (like XET), depending on the course.

Ques. What is Xavier's Entrance Test (XET)?

Ans. Xavier’s Entrance Test (XET) is the common entrance examination conducted by St. Xavier’s College Mumbai for admission to select UG and PG courses. The exam consists of 100 MCQ  to be completed in 1.5 to 2 hours. The sections include General Knowledge, Mathematics & Data Interpretation, Logical/Visual Reasoning, English Language, and Critical Analysis. There is no negative marking.

Ques. Can a candidate apply to multiple courses at Xavier Mumbai using the same XET score?

Ans. Candidates cannot apply to multiple degree courses at Xavier Mumbai with just one XET (Xavier's Entrance Test) score, because each degree program conducts its own XET version specifically for that program. In the case you want to apply for multiple courses like BMS and BA MCJ, you will need to submit a separate application and go through the XET exam again for each course.

Ques. If a candidate misses the XET exam, do they get a second chance, or can they be considered through merit?

Ans. No, there is no separate merit option for XET-based courses. If you have not appeared in the XET exam, you will not be eligible for BMS, B.Sc. (It), BA-JMC, and/or M.Sc. The only process that allows you to apply for XET-based courses will be to apply to the merit-based courses (B.Sc, BA, B.Com, BAF, MA) and not BM -based courses.

Ques. Is there any sectional cutoff in the XET, or is overall performance enough?

Ans. There are no sectional cutoffs for Xavier's Entrance Test (XET) at Xavier Mumbai, admission is based on the overall performance. This implies that the final selection is made based on the overall score, so it is important to maximize your score across all sections to total the highest score possible for your best opportunity to be shortlisted.

I applied to IIM Indore, St. Xavier's mumbai, TAPMI Manipal and I had given CET exam to apply for colleges in Mumbai. I did not clear the IPMAT exam as I prepared only for 2 months, so I didn't make it to iim indore. St. Xavier's being one of the top colleges in India was my next choice. I also got into TAPMI Manipal but I chose Xavier's over it as the ROI was better. For admission in Xavier's you've to clear the Xavier's Entrance Test (XET) for BMS, BMM and BSC-IT. Post which you'll get a call if your name is in the merit list. Rest of the process is done in the college itself, where you'll be asked to submit your documents and fill out some forms. It is a quite easy and smooth process.

In my opinion, the admission process for St. Xavier's College was pretty smooth and the portal worked well when I applied. This was the only college I had applied for, after a while I was thinking of applying to Ramnarain Ruia College and Jai Hind College but then I got accepted in Xavier's so there was no need to apply to the other colleges. The parameters on which they select students was purely based on merit, with a few exceptions for minority quotas. Xavier's has a a larger minority quota for Christian students, as it is a Jesuit institution. The cutoffs range at around 95% for Arts and around 90% for Science.

I had gotten 86.4 percentage in my 12th board exams, hence, I had gotten into most of the colleges I had applied to. but One thing that stood out about xavier's was the course curriculum brochure and it's location in Mumbai, the media hub of India.
