SSIM PGDM FAQs
Ques. Is SSIM PGDM equivalent to an MBA degree?
Ans. No, the PGDM at SSIM is a Post Graduate Diploma, not an MBA degree. However, it is AICTE-approved and NBA-accredited, which makes it equivalent to an MBA for most corporate recruitment purposes. Many top companies including Deloitte, KPMG, and Goldman Sachs recruit PGDM graduates from SSIM on par with MBA graduates. For government jobs or academic roles that specifically require an MBA degree, a PGDM may not be accepted.
Ques. What is the minimum CAT/XAT percentile required for admission to SSIM PGDM?
Ans. SSIM does not publish a strict minimum percentile cutoff. However, based on the scholarship structure, candidates with 50 percentile and above in CAT/XAT are eligible for scholarships, suggesting that the institute accepts students across a range of percentiles. Students with lower percentiles can also apply using MAT, CMAT, ATMA, or TS ICET scores. The final selection is based on the overall profile including SOP, Video Introduction, and Personal Interview.
Ques. Does SSIM offer hostel facilities, and is it mandatory?
Ans. Yes, SSIM offers separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on campus. Hostel accommodation is optional and not mandatory. The hostel fee is approximately Rs. 3,10,000 for the two-year duration. Students who prefer to stay off-campus can do so, as the institute is located in Kompally, Hyderabad, which has good connectivity and rental accommodation options nearby.
Ques. What specialisations can I choose in the PGDM Triple Specialisation programme?
Ans. The PGDM (Triple Specialisation) at SSIM allows students to choose a Major specialisation, a Minor specialisation, and a Sectoral specialisation from a pool of 50+ elective subjects. Common specialisation areas include Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations, Business Analytics, and more. This model gives students a broader skill set compared to traditional single-specialisation PGDM programmes, which is valued by recruiters.
Ques. How does the SSIM PGDM scholarship work in practice? Do I get a fee waiver upfront?
Ans. No, the scholarship is not a fee waiver at the time of admission. Students must pay the full term fees (including the second term) and then apply for the scholarship with the scholarship letter issued by SSIM. The scholarship amount is credited back to the student after the second-term fee payment. This means students need to arrange the full fee amount initially and will receive the scholarship benefit subsequently.
Ques. What is the typical profile of students who get placed at top companies like Deloitte or Goldman Sachs from SSIM?
Ans. Based on placement records, students placed at top firms like Deloitte (Tax Consultant), Goldman Sachs (Finance), and Oxane Partners (Senior Analyst) typically have strong academic backgrounds, good communication skills, and relevant internship or work experience. Deloitte is one of the largest mass recruiters at SSIM, hiring multiple students each year for Tax Consultant roles. Goldman Sachs and UBS hire selectively for Finance and Investment Banking Operations roles. Students with Finance or Analytics specialisations tend to have an edge for these roles.
